[Suggestion] Time to reformat WvW
Simple. You make completely new maps
Making new maps is one of the most time and resource heavy investments ANet can do, they’ve stated this before that making maps is a lot of work. Nothing simple about it.
and it’s like we got a whole new game for free!
Which does not make this much better for ANet, if they’re giving us what is basically a new game, don’t you think they would want money for all that work ? You can’t expect them to rework one entire game mode for free just like that.
That said:
I don’t think moving from 3way to 4way would do that much to help, it is also going to create just as many new weird brackets as we already got. To make a couple of examples:
Borlis Pass is probably closer in strength with AR and SoR at the moment, than DB/DH/SF. CD with HoD/NSP/EBay would also get pretty big for the rest. Then there is the whole problem in T8 where 2 servers are so underpopulated they have trouble fighting back a lot of the time.
I also wouldn’t mind trying this, if it didn’t require entirely new maps and such. Sounds like it could have been a fun change from the normal.

1. This requires three new maps(bl, ebg, eotm), and it takes them about a year to make one new map, that’s about how much time they said they spent on eotm. They are certainly not going to waste the new map they haven’t even released yet, and the three they currently have.
2. Four server matchup will turn into a 3v1, not even T1 servers could handle that and you would probably see more players taking “breaks”. Sure it would be nice if the bottom four servers team up against the top server in the matchup, but that’s what they also expected for a three way matchup, and it always ends up with the top two beating on the third place server.

You want to see things change for the better in WvW? Simple:
Get rid of eternal battlegrounds. Get rid of the current score system, and either give another currency beyond badges, or make the things we’re able to buy with badges count for more. Components for ascended armours and weapons would be a good start. Perhaps even a road to legendary weapons and armours.
Have winning actually mean something for the players who aren’t playing in WvW, whether it’s a passive world-wide bonus to currency, mastery experience, or general experienced being earned whilst your realm is ‘winning’ winning being determined by how much land/objectives you currently hold, so that more guilds actually feel invested.
As for maps, the three borderlands should have been more than enough. Again, WvW needs to be personal, the players need a stake in winning, beyond self aggrandisement. As it stands-due to megaservers, WvW is one of the last vestiges of our original server communities. Community needs to count for something again.
Right now, Eternal Battlegrounds is just a dumping ground for players that don’t want to defend their realm or go on offence against the others.
Admittedly it becomes even more attractive to realms that are undermanned compared to others- where having some score as opposed to nothing at all makes taking SM or other objectives in EB more lucrative than being plowed under in your home realm.
EB drains players from their respective realms where they need it. And what’s more, realms which enjoy a numerical advantage know they don’t need it to win.
Of course all this is just one player’s opinions.
Beyond that, as mentioned, unless some sort of solution for wide disparities in WvW populations is actually addressed and sorted, (beyond the usual incestuous process of stealing, begging, or even paying for the transfers of players/guilds to have them come in and bolster your own realm), match-ups are going to continue being a nightmare for the unfortunate realm that finds itself at the bottom of the heap- no matter what condition the map is in.
TL;DR: This part of the game is just an infernal mess. Please fix it, Anet.
For NA My idea…is to close the top 6 servers till further notice they dont need more ppl and by letting ppl transfer its killing smaller servers, leave next 6 be….then remove bottom 6 mixing adding them to 13 to 18…so 24 and 13, 23 and 14, 22 and 15, 21 and 16, 20 and 17, and last 19 and 18.
On top of that there should be an incentive for people to move to the smallest servers after this merging…nothing major just like gold boost or something

3 way battles are fine it adds the wildcard scenario, double teams, back stabbing, and uncertainty. If your going to suggest 4 servers you may as well suggest 2 servers. An odd number brings a lot to the table imho.
The game has never been fair so why not take the pve maps, copy them for wvw, and put them into the rotation. I know they don’t have the keeps and towers to take, but so what. If we had some of these maps once a month Where people could fight, I think they would be popular.
Note: I said a copy of these maps. Pve is still pve and not open world pvp…l

There’s already a bunch of passive buffs for pve, but people don’t pay attention to them except for maybe the crafting. They should probably tie the bonuses to the structures, so for example if you own your ebg keep your realm gains +5% more gold from drops, maybe tie another +5% to your homebl keep, Bay and Langor giving +5% karma each, etc.
Three borderlands only without ebg is interesting. EBG is a good map to find quick fights from all three sides, it’s easy to travel, smc is used as a middle focus point to encourage fights in one area, it’s really what eotm should have been. Breaking the system down to only three borderland maps would force more activity on them, pressure is always on the defending side of those maps, but I would miss ebg. I really would have gone with this concept 3 borderland and 1 ebg as eotm maps at release, but it feels too late for that given the population problems.

That’s probably going to screw over ranks 10-12 servers, which may drop them to the bottom of the pack after. I’m on Ehmry currently, ranked 12th, so yeah a gold boost isn’t really going to make me happy about it XD
Not to mention with a lot of the bottom tier servers there’s going to be more NA around than anything, and merging something like the 18/19 servers could put them into T3 territory for NA population. We might as well wait until expansion to see how many return, but I do think a merger for wvw populations of some sort needs to happen.

Take out the npcs other than the minimum vendors needed for a wvw map, hell put all those vendors into the middle of the map and let all 3 sides fight for access over them lol.
You can take it a step further and convert at least 3 of those maps, then randomly assign them per server in a matchup, so T1 BG could be fireheart rise, JQ could be frostgorge sound, YB could be cursed shore for a week. Add more maps to the random rotation and it’ll feel like a week long fractal.

I would like to see different formats. 2 way for more competitive aspect and this 4 way for fun. It would be nice to have a rotating format every month to keep it fresh.

i wouldnt doubt it considering 95% of anets resource goes into living story
Better to throw the whole system out and make a persistent world.
