Creating Suggestion to trim the current Territories so they only encompass walled objectives with a 1200 buffer zone around them. Then have the rest of the map as glider free-for-all.

Its kind of annoying having to check the UI to see if you can jump off a random bridge or cliff in the middle of no where and not die.

The territories are arbitrary lines that do not line up with any natural feature. You can be gliding along and all a sudden nope it no-glide area. I also think both enemy and allies gliding and chasing would add a cool component.

On the top of the UI you can see who is controlling the territory you move through as well as information about the relative objective and its upgrade status.
In the mini map you can see the territory border lines coloured according to the side that owns it.

I prefer it the way it is now over this suggestion. Gliding rights should be a tactical concern, and the ability to deny gliding to an opponent in a territory adds much more depth than what you are proposing. Want to slow down reinforcements from garri while attacking SET? Cut off their gliding lines.

If gliding stays (and I think it should), I think it would be good to have a hot-key toggle button to lightly color territories on the main screen, so constantly checking the minimap weren’t such a necessity, though.

Gliding is not always the fastest way to travel, mostly just cool/convenient.

Well, on Alpine, for instance, gliding from garri to SET would pass through two territories of ruins. So if I were sending one person to cut off the glide line, I’d send them up to the NE ruin to cap it. Then defenders would have to do the regular drop and swim route.

Even if gliding didn’t save much time in this scenario, it would allow defenders to bypass whatever roamers we had on the ground in the north ruins, that might otherwise pick fights with lone defenders trickling back to the tower.

Honestly, I wish the ruins area was free tbh since they are only temporary objectives that are not capped most of the time. I’m completely fine with the area around the objectives.

No… The big red sign in the middle of your screen saying you are entering in a no fly zone is the one that do that.

Only works if you can determine the difference between blue and green but instead of a colorblind mode people have been asking for since release we get gliding….. go figure.

No… The big red sign in the middle of your screen saying you are entering in a no fly zone is the one that do that.

and then where do you go, check mini map, oops too slow. oh well. There is no reason to make huge chunks of the map, with arbitrary zoning, control based for gliding. It adds practically nothing other than random frustration for either side. It could have been implemented cleaner.

Territories that are done right imo are:
SWC
SEC
Citadel
Bay, even this one could be trimmed back

The rest just encompass way too much random area. Look no further than NNC for an example of random territory. I mean what is this Game of Thrones where one random guy can become King of the North by flipping NNC?

I’d like to suggest overlap on some territories, not into the objectives themselves, but if you have SE and your enemy has Hills, you’d both have gliding over some stretch of land between. Or some such—I haven’t thought through exact placement, but I think being able to have two or more teams gliding through certain areas would be interesting, tactically.

Red is Glide if you control
Green is anyone unless it is claimed
Blue are sentries’ aoe mark

What is up with sentries? Marked now disables gliders. With that change I would move the NE Ruin Sentry to the overlooking cliff/plateau of the Gari/Hills road fork. The NEC Sentry I would put on top of the bridge to mark people gliding from NET to Hills. To preserve its cripple function I would put an environmental caltrops below the bridge that is attuned to the sentry’s controlling server. Control the sentries to control the gliding lanes.

And forgot to add, with trim zones I would disable gliders nearly immediately.

I wouldn’t prohibit people from gliding out of objectives they didn’t own but they would need to run and jump and then open glider.

Just make the zones disable gliders immediately. People really shouldn’t be intentionally attempting to glide into walled objectives they do not own so in the few areas it would cause death, oops… To prevent honest people from dying who just wanted to get to objective to defend but got there late, idk maybe increase the objectives’ capture bar event radius where appropriate. It would give them time to decide to push for the defense or veer off.

Make oasis a free for all glider zone and add laser guns so we can pewpew lasergame eachother there. Maybe some updrafts/ley lines to shake it a bit more up.

wich such trimmed barriers, i could make a DH or thief and pull my friend on the other server into the wall so he could port his group.
It would be troll exploit at another level… game(codewise) boundry validations dont apear out of thin air, as much i would love it as well.

A middle term aproach must need to be reached, what is the best to avoid mistakes, close to structures,far from structures, limit glidding where?, there was for sure quite some thinking to reach the most overall way to introduce glidding into WvW,

I would say it was one of the most “balanced addons” ive seen ANet doing after gw2 lauch….

I don’t know why, but I can’t stop laughing at this.

I think the territory control on gliding is necessary to keep zergs from being able to bypass siege entirely, like they currently are at Ogrewatch on EBG. Sure, it has some annoying bugs/features, but I think it can be worked out so that the new system adds to tactical play rather than detracting from it.

That’s the thing, though. It is under your control…you just have to take it.

A system that places more importance on taking and keeping objectives is good. I’ve already given an example with ruins. Same goes for camps. If I’m on an enemy Alpine BL, and the enemy is cata-ing our spawn tower (SWT) from the south ruins spot, then the current method lets our team control the gliding in that area by controlling SC. This means when they are ready to push, we can try to force a choke battle on the bridge. If they want to have the option to fly past the bridge, they need to devote resources to taking the territory. Your proposed map takes away that tactical element.

Giving players a way to tactically take away enemy movement options was one of the strongest parts of the gliding update. Plus, long term, I would be very surprised if Anet did not use the territory mechanic in other ways. If you think it’s confusing now, think about how it would be with two sets of territories – one for gliding, and one for other territory uses.

If your team let one random guy take that camp, then they didn’t place a priority on being able to glide there.

What would the map look like if you redraw the territories so that the border is:

Halfway from keep to keep.
Two/thirds from keep to tower, tower to camp or tower to ruin
Three/fourths from keep to camp or keep to ruin.
