First of all…not sure if I should place here this sugestion since its a wvw related BUT at the same time i thought here would be the best place since this is not a wvw discussion but in fact a GW2 discussion and since there’s more suggestions topics here Im creating this one too.
So what i was been thinking was nothing much than a small icon that everyone could get like the small icon of the title “Been There, Done That” that could show to our allies our ranks…i mean this cause it would be nice to show our ranks, BUT when i said before that EVERYONE could get it (the icon) i mean only AFTER achieve the Bronze rank…I’ve done some quick examples of what i mean.

Nice idea, I like it. Would be pretty cool to have WvW emblems for armor and gear as well to show these ranks, much like how Guild Armor shows guild stuff. That way your rank can be seen than more than just via the names. Like the good ole war days~
Also, those symbols you created are pretty sweet looking.
As an alternative I’d like to have my ‘title’ just be my current wvw rank (not a separate title for each rank name, just one option so I don’t have to update it).

What about also adding icons to show a certain mastery you have attained? Be it full ram, cats, trash, etc. Would certainly help walls fall faster and bags drop more frequently if manned by a specialist.
Now the problem is I cannot tell a silver from a platinum. The icon size is too small to differentiate the silver-ish colors.
Well like i said…those are just representative for this suggestion… of course anet would create better icons to represent the ranks IF this is accepted.

Nope I didn’t wanna mean that you copied it. It’s a generic idea/feature from older mmos anyway.
I mean, I suggested it many times in various topics but they didn’t even see it.

I have some other suggestions for gw2 from an old mmorpg called knight online.
(I was playing this game 10 years ago)
It had two rank icons next to each other, permanent and monthly(temporary).
Permanent one was your all-time, general rank. It was shown in a square border.
Monthly one was determined by your monthly rank point gain.
Two top-ranked players of the server had “dragon” rank icon. It was a special rank for the top players of the server. (according to leaderboards)
If you don’t play and don’t get any rank points in a month, you don’t get any monthly rank icon. But your permanent rank icon always stays.
You can see the example pic from that game below…
This guy has permanent rank icon only(in square border), because he hasn’t qualified(didn’t play enough) for a monthly rank in that month.
And these are monthly, temporary ranks. They are determined by monthly leaderboard.(Per server)
For example if you are 49th person of your server in monthly leaderboard, you get “Mist Knight” rank icon during that month. Your monthly rank icon goes up as you play more and move upwards on leaderboard in that month. Leaderboards were accessible from in-game menu.
If I could more then +1, I would. It would be awesome to have this, and also change the current guild rep [Guild] to your guild Icon.
Oh, and on the other servers seeing your rank in WvW, dont they see your rank as your name? for ex: Black Gate Champion [GLD]
+1 like everyone else. OP, I like this. I remember seeing threads a few months into the game that wanted something similar back when wvw ranks were being hinted at.
I like this because you earned the rank, why not show it off to comrades?
EDIT just dawned on me that the legend icon is what looks like a snowflake. “Special Snowflake” anyone, perfect.
@Umut, personally I think there are too many intangibles in WvW to warrant leaderboards on a player basis. There are those that do things that can’t necessarily be tracked . Scouting for instance. There are plenty of players who sit in structures or follow opposing zergs/groups just to be that alarm bell.
It actually looks cool, sounds cool, and your art is really well done.

I would maybe change it a bit so that the Rank icon would show only when you have someone targeted. This way these icons don’t jump around your screen and the icons could be a tiny bit bigger icons when you could see them somewhere near the face block. Also this way you could possibly implement them on the party window as well.

That looks nice. It must also be attached next to player’s nick-name and always visible when he isn’t selected. (Like world completion star)
Creating a visible system of ranks would go a long way in assisting commanders when leading a zerg of PUGS. This would allow the pin to instantly see the level of experienced players he is leading, and help him decided how aggressive they can be when running into another zerg.
ATM all a pin can see is the number of players with him, the # of supplies, and up levels. Even if the pin is using TS to help direct a fight, u generally only have the regular players on TS and not the newbs, who instantly become rally bots.
So c’mon Anet……get this going. BTW….thx for acct. bound WXP . : )
