Definitely the best way to show ranks. But of course a purely cosmetic thing.
Unless it’s only very low effort, I would prefer that ANet spends it’s time on a more urgent matter:

Its amazing to me that this has not been added, the logic behind only the enemy seeing our rank just baffles me and in all honesty I have to question the ability of the developers in charge of wvw.
There is so much talk about rewards lately and yet they seem to have overlooked that titles are great reward for effort, they can keep their ascended mats, I currently have nearly 40k emp shards, what I want is a title/rank icon for my efforts.

Good idea to add to the wishlist.

Just to play the devil’s advocate, I think arenanet might see problems with displaying this for allies, as it can encourage an elitist attitude. (E.g. Im not following this commander, he’s only rank x).
Perhaps it could be implemented in a way where you have the choice to display your icon or not (maybe it appears if you choose your WvW rank as your title?).

I find the opposite to be true. I know a lot of junior commanders that are followed by senior or veteran commanders. There are a variety of reasons for this:

1. Vet doesn’t want to pin up.
2. Vet wants to support and grow new talent.
3. Vet is “playing under the influence”.
4. Vet is an old/tired bull and appreciates the young and enthusiastic (if naïve) bull.
5. Vet is a team player and knows the best leaders are the best followers.
6. Vet doesn’t want to pin up.

Yes, your argument has merit. But TBH, douchbag vets will always be douchbag vets with or without decorations. I don’t believe the addition of a bit of sparkle will make any difference to such mouth breathers.

These rank Icons need to be added, the rank system is half baked atm.

I don’t understand why it is so hard to get a feedback from a dev. Why can’t they just read the suggestion and answer something like “nice idea, i’ll pass it along” or “not a priority, we are working on more importants things right now” or “won’t happen”. Any answer is better than no answer.

I honestly think displaying your wvw rank to your own team in one way or another is great idea as the less experienced could heed the advice of the greater experienced more readily. Either icons or simply use the rank as the title (I’d much rather my silver colonel than “veteran of the mists”)

When they do it, I would suggest to put a line of stars below, as colors are difficult to see.
1 star for silver up to 4 for mithril and a cavalry cross for the 5th level of ranks.

Moving it to the WvW section was their response. Anyways, I like the implementation of this as well, this could be a small icon on the players’ face plate, or as the face plate background itself.

It looks great, but I believe Anet’s whole idea of not letting friendly ranks be displayed at all is to avoid elitism.

It would probably be OK to let people display this in PvE though. God knows WvWers need their own snazzy stuff, and WvW ranks are the one thing PvE players can’t just come in and grind to fulfil some achievement quota and get the reward.

That is not the reason, look at PVE Dungeon Master title, look at PVP Legendary Champion Title, and WvW Ultimate Dominator. There are already plenty of titles you could say would cause elitism throughout the game, but its not an issue. The reason they haven’t added rank titles/icons is probably more down to they haven’t got around to it yet, because I believe they will at some point, since having only the enemy able to see your rank is just plain backwards and needs to be fixed.

Those are extremely different from WvW ranks. Dungeon master is awfully easy to get, and the other two represent significant achievements on a different scale from WvW ranks. Nobody is going to rag on you for not having ultimate dominator, but the same cannot be said for a WvW rank that really only reflects how long you’ve played. A veteran commander does not need to flash his rank to command respect in his server, but a novice one with a publicly displayed Scout rank is inevitably going to be discriminated against. New players will all be walking around with huge “I’M NEW” signs over their heads and this can be intimidating.

It was a Mod that moved it, not a Dev. Big difference. There are more Mods here than Devs as posts get locked or deleted.
