[Suggestions] Remove Edge of the Mists

Seriously this, People are using it right now as PVE. WvW was NOT meant to be PVE. This is ruining a great part of the game. I understand development cycles, and how this couldn’t be fixed overnight, but please look into having this disabled, or changed like the above by HOT
Or they could remove WvW and new borderland could be new EotM.

When EotM was released, WvW lost a big chunk of its population and an entire group of players; the karma trainers. WvWers really like to complain about them but even if they don’t realize it they love them. WvW lost a part of his soul and lost his way to get new blood into the game mode. Nearly every WvWer started as a k-trainer but now the train is gone…
And then came megaserver…
Eotm is fun and fast paced so it’s appealing to some over wvw. It’s not going anywhere or being placed with limitations.
Auto loot will be part of a mastery track so we won’t have to spam f anymore.
221 hours over 1,581 days of bank space/hot pve/lion’s arch afk and some wvw.
Should also note, that if you removed EotM, how many of those people do you think would return to WvW? I don’t expect more than a handful on each server, tops.
They are probably going back to silverwastes instead, or tequatl runs or what not those kids do these days for karma and rewards.
EotM is not the reason WvW is under populated.

Some people have alot of fun in eotm. What you are suggesting is not taking into account their idea of fun, only yours, which seems rather sad really.
90% of the time i play in home bl, though sometimes i like to run around in eotm collecting some bags/zerging/trolling with fear on my necro. I would be upset to lose my eotm time.

You can’t force players to enjoy what you enjoy. If players like EotM and continue playing the game, then it’s good for the game as a whole.
I’m sure people have suggested this before, but hadn’t seen it so here it is.
World Vs World right now has become something really, well, what’d I’d call almost ridiculous. I’m a GW1 Vet(Played in it’s alpha even in Pre-searing!) and even played in the GW2 very early betas. When I saw footage, and played World vs World originally I was in awe, the idea of this in a Guild Wars game was really great, and exactly what I wanted.
When playing it there were many problems as I’m sure many of you know, originally arrow carts were ridiculous, there was still a zerg, but it was FUN. Our group of 5-8 could go around, build trebuchets, or what have you, seige the side of castles and open up holes for our zerg while also contributing to taking supply camps, small towers etc.
With Edge of the mists this was Killed. Player count in WvW which you used to have to Queue up to every map for (Which was good) was decimated by people farming in the new map. The new map just consists of the zerg running around and farming events, and has nothing to do with world combat. This takes completely from WvW total players, and if these people do want to zerg it would at least be 100% better (With the changes coming in HOT) to have these people in the normal maps. This will in turn push some of the zerg, off of it, and back into the defense, etc to make the WVW experience much better.
TLDR: One thing WvW misses right now is Players. Sorting this would make the combat a lot better.
Second point I think is Autoloot, If this were real life — yes, stopping to loot things and ‘Pick them up’ would make a lot of sense, but when people aren’t smart enough to go back to get their gear AFTER the fight, what happens is it causes both the zerg, and normal people to either:
A. Spam f while in combat
B. Stop mid chase to lootBoth of these are bad for the overall for the WvW experience I think, and I really hope for the first one at least this gets considered for the HOT release, because if not WvW will likely stay empty other than the zerg.
This WvW siphon is hard for lower servers but impossible at the top three.

This is the event to teach how to progress through events, and if done correctly you get quite a bit of things you need for every aspect of the game.
They finally found a way to buy that Pre-Cursor you have sitting in the TP if you just abandon EOTM, come to WvW for raids and ask that Anet keep the Silverwastes as a permanent feature of Guild Wars 2.
I will teach anyone who thinks that they are having fun in EOTM that they really aren’t, well, I am sure there may be a few who don’t like being able to make gold and get to ascended with all characters without massive pain again, finally.
Yep, the fun finally is back in events, but it certainly isn’t in EOTM.
Come back to WvW, your server needs you.
Come to the Silverwastes with empty bags and MF food.

Well, people are in EOTM because they don’t want to be in WvW. If that is the case, then maybe there are things that are in WvW that must be fixed before that happens. Removing EOTM doesn’t force people to go back to WvW, especailly when their goals may not be different from yours.
And let’s admit it, I doubt anyone that plays there would find these arguments particularly persuasive if you’re trying to remove whatever they’re playing. And they’re certainly not going to defend or whatnot. You sure you want them coming over?

I still think the EotM map would make a fun Eternal Battleground map with a few tweaks (open cap point in the aetherblades) and our current EB map could be made into a borderland map after they took SM out to replace it (and its horrid lag) with a big open battle field or the ruins of the former castle. I suppose you could instead rework EotM into a borderland map instead, then make one the Desert borderland and keep Apline for the 3rd. Point being, 4 unique maps using WvW rules would be more fun for everyone. Then all they have to do is add in a WvW reward track similar to PvP and get the population balance figured out and we’d be set for awhile.

Contrary to popular believe there are actually some good WvW fights that happen in EOTM and its not all 100% ktrain/champ bag farm.
So you would rather have all EOTM ktrain/champ bag hunters be all dumped back into PVE zones with all the toixc map chat that got Queens Dale champs &champ bags nerfed hard?…….
You can’t solely blame EOTM map for WvW having low population when there too many factors to list here to consider and not too hard for anyone to come up with on their own.
So NO leave EOTM as it is!!!!

I’m sorry but all i got from your post was condescension and “your opinion is wrong nd mine is the only right one” attitude. You cannot tell me what i do/do not enjoy. So do not try to do that.
As for taking away eotm? Why? Lots of people, judging by the amount of people you see there, enjoy it.

say what you want about EoTM, but at least in my experience:
1. it is always more populated (and greatly so) than WvW at any given time.
2. I get in more meaningful fights, both zerg v zerg, roaming and duels in EoTM than borderlands. Yeah some of the zerg fights can be lopsized…but on average, more even fights in eotm than WvW.
3. Wvw is becoming more ktrainish lately…
They should never remove content to fix other content. If you want to entice more people into WvW, make it better, don’t remove an area many folks like..
If those people playing eotm would be interested in the “real” wvw they’d be playing it by now. Dont think wvw will see a mass influx of new players if you deleted that map. They will just find other places to have their ktrains.
First it was queensdale champtrain. Anet removed them so they moved on to the next map which was and still is eotm.

I disagree. I much prefer having less rallybots running around WvW and have mostly 80s and those players who are more into actual WvW even if they are leveling their toons.
What I would like to see though, is much tighter map caps, so that EOTM actually works for what it was intended to work as.

Lol, why do people hate EOTM so much? Let the dogs have their bones… I’d rather the fairweathers farm in EOTM until their heart’s content than in my borderlands throwing random siege and pressuring the commander’s to start taking stuff instead of fighting.
Some people enjoy the more chaotic and laid back atmosphere of EOTM because they don’t have to be on teamspeak, they don’t have to be on a level 80, etc. If they think it’s fun let them have fun… You don’t see them asking for EBG and the borderlands to be removed because it’s deflating their ktrain in EOTM do you? Nope.
Also I’d much rather not have maps Q’d 24/7 because it sucks. The irony would be that people would want EOTM removed but then maps would be constantly Q’d and the remedy for maps being constantly Q’d was to create EOTM, lol. Then there’s the ridiculous suggestion that EOTM should only be available when maps are Q’d… You’re going to be going there either way then aren’t you?
So let’s just leave it alone… If you don’t like being on a low pop server, transfer. If you don’t like ktrains, don’t go to EOTM. If you don’t like PvE’rs, don’t ask for EOTM to be removed or they’ll flock to real WvW. Use your heads please. Really tired of people hating on EOTM because it’s different.

Some folks like EoTM because it’s essentially a big map k-train with a few skirmishes here and there. While this is generalizing, it’s more pve-friendly than WvW maps, and suits those folks fine. If you force them into WvW, they’ll either A: yell and scream about no k-train; B: play the way they play in EoTM; C: leave and abandon “WvW” entirely and go back to PVE-land.
I see EoTM as WvW with training wheels. If they like EoTM, they may take a more serious stab at WvW.
I’ve only done EotM once for a few minutes, but I do like the supplies it drops for us. I say keep it as is. a good place for folks to level up and it brings in supply.

For the current intended use, it is fine. As other posters have said, really the gameplay in regular wvw needs to improve instead. I see it as an important safety value for uneven matchups actually and helps retain players to come back when the matchup improves.

It seems you guys are confusing your subjective opinion, with that of actual objective fact.
My personal experience suggest that WvW and EotM are vastly different. I find EotM good for leveling and more chaotic fun. Though I very rarely visit it. WvW always feels like much more organized play and definitely more hashed out builds and set ups.

Op obviously isn’t familiar with karma trains. WvW died before eotm came out. Eotm just gave the ktrainers a more efficient place to farm.
If you wanted to “fix” the situation, you would have to fix wvw population imbalance and scoring.
Otherwise people would turn wvw into ktraining again.

I don’t think anyone understood the main point of this, I’m not saying the ‘Karma Train’ doesn’t have it’s place, I’m just saying that the place for that should not be a PvP zone. The point of PvP and more-so the original point of WvW was to beat out your opponents, to receive bonuses for your world. I have no doubt that 90% of the people from EOTM should this happen, would move strait to silverwastes, or whatever end game zone allowed this with the new expansion. I understand many of you find this type of thing fun, I’m not trying to take it away.
On the point that people would move to WvW for a k-train, this is untrue. With improvements in defense giving players real reason to defend a camp, tower, or castle, this will keep players from just rushing. Yes there will still be a main zerg, but this doesn’t mean they’ll be able to move around as fast when things are actually being defended. Additionally with GW2 being free, more players will be running around (eventually) making more defense/offense as well.
Lastly, EOTM is Chaotic, it IS great for leveling, but there is nothing strategic to it,it’s very much a grind, and it really can’t be called WvW at all (What player battles exist are groups of people mashing into each other and dieing, no strategy at all). For World Vs World to be what it really was meant to be, PvE needs to not be there, in the way it is in EOTM. I’m all for a fast paced WvW, but how it is now is NOT how it needs to be. Like I said above, I don’t think this needs to happen now, I think we would really see benefit of this happening when other things are fixed.
It’s part of many things (Zombie Zerging mentality, People PvEing in WvW, need of players, need of better defense, etc) that need to be done.
I myself would be one for 1 much larger map with combined servers(Like get it down to 3 total ‘Servers’ since they don’t really matter with megaserver, other than WvW), and much more emphasis on Guilds, and their emphasis in the world, but I understand there are technical limitations and that’s just my opinion of course

Uhm, no thanks, I like my server, and it’s community, and I like having multiple maps to play on. Megaserver doesn’t belong in wvw. I like my server, i would not play on another.

Let me give an Prediction: wvw.player will hate them as they will be achievement hunter.:)
So no you don’t want the people populating EotM in WvW. I remember all these hate-threads about uplevels and TS-ignorant in WvW.

I don’t want to see EotM taken out of the game. I like it. Like a lot of people, I use it to level up new toons before I take them into the real WvW. Nothing worse than an uplevel running around EBG, weakening the home team.
But what I would really like to see happen is for EotM to not accrue WvW badges or WXP ranks. I think this is the biggest ripoff. There are Diamond Legends in the game that have never set foot in WvW. Never had to defend their garrison or other keeps. Never flipped SMC with just a small group while the zerg keeps the opposition busy at their keep.
The whole point of the WvW badges of honor and WXP Ranks was to demonstrate experience in WvW. EotM completely destroys that notion.

Well playing in blob guild in WvW do same thing. You get much more wxp and badges than you deserve.

EotM is taking the players you don’t want on your side in WvW. It’s doing its job, let it be.
As for the WvW populations, that’s a whole other issue that will hopefully be addressed as HoT rolls out.

What Anet should do is increase the rewards in WvW, maybe add in some unique WvW skins, titles, etc…
