So I was playing our Borderlands last night and we managed to organize a pickup group to storm Etheron Hills and take our orb back. Enemy had 40 guys up at Godsword, but we managed to get about 30 people together, enough of whom brought supply to get 3 rams built on each gate, took the keep in about 5 minutes, before the enemy could respond, it was beautiful. I digress.

So, we captured the keep with full supply. Right before it shifted to our control, we had myself and about 10 other people all shouting in every available channel “Please don’t take supply from Eth, we need it for upgrades if we want to hold it!” et cetera. But, inevitably, in the minute after we took control the supplies dwindled from 500/500 to the mid-200s. Wall construction stalled at 30%, enemy started constantly attacking trying to get the place back, pandemonium. Controlled one supply camp almost constantly and had it upgraded, but the second the Yak would arrive the 100 supply it brought in evaporated as people spammed poorly-positioned siege or just picked up supply and ran off. Fast forward 3 hours later, walls are still only up to 90%.

Common situation we find ourselves in when working with pickup groups, I know. Had about a dozen solid people running supplies in from Garrison or the supply camps to build siege, but we were still losing 90% of our supplies in the pile to people who more often than not wasted it. Things like arrow carts out in the open in front of the gate, et cetera. Went to sleep after 3 hours of not a single upgrade getting done, and apparently we lost the keep half an hour later with the walls still only at 95%. I’ll stop now, because you get the idea and the memory is making my blood boil.

Anyway, what would you guys say to a way to allocate supplies in a keep or tower? Say, for example, that your guild has the keep claimed. Would you be in favor of an option to set who can take supply from the pile? Say, “Everyone,” “Guild Only,” and “Workers Only” for example? Not the most elegant solution, but I’m fairly sure everyone has had their carefully-laid plans to fortify and hold a location sabotaged by people who, despite trying to be helpful most of the time, end up screwing the whole team over by wasting all your supplies?

Instead of allocating supplies (Like stoping players from taking them alltogether) I think there needs to be a “Retain supplies” so for example you have 100 supply in a tower, you can retain up to like say 50% or 75% of the total supplies so it can never for below 50 or 75. Just an example.

This can also be harmful at times, but I think it may be an improvement. Though there are many more pressing issues that i would like see changing before this.

the only problem would be when someone new to wvwvw participates in a keep fight, manages to click claim for their 2 man guild they made, sets the option to guild only and then runs off to continue fighting with the zerg. Eventually people will need those supplies and you wouldn’t be able to do anything. This is an accident too, I’m sure there are people who would love to have such an option just tokitten off players by claiming keeps for themselves and not letting anyone touch supplies.

This is why you actually appoint people to take charge of supply camps, to defend, upgrad, call yaks, etc. This ensures that supply reaches keeps for seige and maintennance and upgrades.

Don’t make a game system to restrict access to supplies. You will eventually run into a situation where you need to break the rules. I’d rather have a system where you can kick people for being stupid, not listening and trolling. I especially want to get rid of free server transfers except to low pop servers.

I think this issue will get better with time when our playerbase stabilize and people learn what they’re doing.

But it will never be 100%.

The other problem is the guild claiming it. Many times, my guild will organize an entire raid of 40 or more of us, and capture a keep after an enormous fight, and then some random guy with his 5 man guild claims the keep.

When were defending our last keep in EB last night and they were trebbing down the outer door and wall. Did a ton of suicide runs to take out the trebs but they controlled the entire map so were able to put more up easily.

Keep supply diminishes VERY fast and I look around and someone had built 8-10 arrow carts IN THE COURTYARD when we only had like 15-20 people defending anyway.

Needless to say the door drops walls drop they kill all the arrow carts and we have no siege for our inner doors which fall faster than the outer.

Now I’d like to believe that it was someone from the other server’s account spamming arrow carts just to take the keep more easily. That’s probably not the case though it’s just that we still have people THAT STUPID playing this game.

Hopefully time will help as more people become aware, but there will always be those stupid people you just have to work around them.

It was more than likely someone from the other server doing it. Until they get around to putting a 2 week locked on servers or at least a 2 week lockout on WvW after a transfer it is poor sportsmanship as well as exploiting of a bad system.
