Honestly, is there any staff ele that actually uses their elite skills in a zerg/group battle?
Tornado is useless now as it’s too slow and just makes you a sitting duck.
Golems are meh
Fiery Great Sword, well tbh I only use it to catch up to my group if I fall way way behind.
There just isnt an elite skill that feels like an elite skill, and again tbh I wish I could fill it with a normal skill instead!
tl;dr Eles elite skills are still useless!

If anet are to release a new elite that will not make the ELE oped
it should be the ability to grant us true avatar state for 16 seconds where there is zero cooldown during attunement swaps.
Or maybe the ability to swap weapons for 9 seconds with 180second cooldown

When you drop a fiery greatsword, not only are you wielding one but you leave one on the ground for someone like a necromancer to pick up who would normally have zero mobility. This is why you might hear a smart commander say only necros pick them up or “eles, drop fgs for necros.”
Some of the race elite skills can be quite acceptable for ele. Sylvari has a decent mist form substitute, Humans can do a aoe chill/poison, char has a weak version of meteor shower, and you are out of luck if your race is norn/assura. In those cases, bring Glyph of Elementals. In larger zergs, earth elemental actually helps in a tiny way since it will soak up aoe damage, and air elemental brings a stun for those <10 player fights. FGS is an alternative if you just want a speed skill (as mentioned by Crius).
Personally, I would go with Sylvari since a mist form skill which also permits the use of some utility skills is a nice get-out-of-jail card when everything is on CD.
Tornado is still a really strong elite – the amount of times i have killed a Focus party or messed up their stealth rotations making them sitting ducks is unreal! (18:35 http://youtu.be/Gyb9MjpCa3g?t=18m35s)
Also if you are full zerk you crit for 3-4k per bounce and it bounces 3 times and pulses every 2 or 3 seconds. And it knocks people about if they dont have stability (if they have been stripped of it by necros or others or are in the periphery) and forces people to mess up positioning if they don’t have stability
Edit: if you don’t want to use tornado use the Glyph its pretty strong since they allowed you to have more control over the elemental. Water gives chill fields and aoe heals and Earth is a walking tank with knock backs
You are a few updates behind. Earth do not cause knock back, and Water do not give chill. Earth gives 3s protection and 5s cripple, and water does a heal and remove a condition, and is extremly unreliable since it first need to catch up with a foe. Earth do not have that requirement, and is simply a minor effect with 18s cd.

Any way race elites are good in wvw. Only char and azren have no elite for the ele class for the most part but norn human and servary have very good race elites for ele in big fights.

I agree. I’d much rather be able to use a "regular" skill than any of my Ele elites like we could in GW1.
In fact that goes for just about any class I play. Elites in this game don’t feel very "elite".
Very much agreed, I would love to have a 4th utility skill instead of the elites.
And yes, I’d gladly give you one of the tomes in exchange for the FGS ! Might even consider giving away both...
Honestly, I used to love that I had picked Norn on my Guardian, since a couple of hte elite forms (Bear and Snow Leopard) gave me something that I didn’t have from before, a way to run away from fights that went south (as in bad, no south camp), especially Snow Leopard was great for this, activate the stealth, then un-target, aim direction and hit the rush, nobody could catch up with you. This obviously made a lot of people very angry, and ANet largely considered this to be a Bad Idea. So they changed how the Bear/SnowLeopard rush skills worked, now they are so slow that a thief can probably teleport arrow right next to you the entire rush. So yes, back to the 3 seconds invulnerable one again, for lack of better options.
Wish they kept Sanctuary as an Elite as they had originally intended it.

I usually drop the 2 water fields then go tornado to get a bit extra green on my screen, but imagine if Tornado changed depending on the attribute your in. Say…Fire Tornado
It’s funny. When people ask what race they should be, often the answer is it doesn’t matter because most classes have something far more valuable in each utility slot.
Ele is the only one that doesn’t fit this imo.
Imagine how much better the game would be if they allowed you to use any utility skill in the elite spot instead of just elite skills.
