Anyone else annoyed by this?

I ALWAYS get suppressed while trying to lead zergs. I constantly have to type “follow”, “build”, “rams”, etc… If I don’t then the people won’t listen and will get distracted easily. Can there be an exception for Commanders when it comes to being suppressed?

If you were to remove the ability to get suppressed while using Commander IN WVW then it won’t be a problem because Gold Sellers be abusing it and players can just report players if they actually abuse it.

Use full sentences and try and contain more than one order per sentence? Also try to switch the wording out. Otherwise, as an extremely vocal commander, I never have this problem.

My server/guild uses a TS. I’m talking about leading the players that aren’t in TS.

well let the randoms join your TS WvW channel and if they dont well dont bother with them

We tell them everyday to join our Team Speak, but most don’t. It is impossible to get 100% of the people to join, and the problem is about the people that won’t join.

Well if they can’t follow instructions enough to join your squad when you tell them, then chances are they won’t be following any of your other instructions either.

They do. They just get distracted easily.

You shouldn’t have to use TS to get info in WvW.

Waffler mentioned this already, but squad chat is extremely useful (and the Commander is never suppressed in squad chat).

Useful commands to know as a commander:

1. Anyone who types “/squadjoin COMMANDER NAME HERE” will join your squad.

2. “/squadinfo” will tell you who is in your squad and the number of supply they are holding, as well as give you the total # count for both supply & players in your squad.

3. Open the map (“m”) and if you alt click (or was it ctrl click..) parts of the map, you will have the option of setting Squad Defend, Squad Rally, and Squad Attack objectives that will be marked for all players in your squad. Useful icons to help assist pushes.

My biggest qualm about the /squad is that joining it means that your squad members cannot see the commander icons of other commanders…which can be problematic if you’re coordinating among multiple commanders. I really wish they would change that… HINT HINT, ANET, #WISHLIST.

Best workaround I have is to never repeat yourself. Have someone else in your guild responsible for repetition.

And yes, I also find it annoying.

A few commanders/guilds have gotten into the habit of having two voice pieces running alongside the commander. The commander speaks only in /say chat while the voice pieces explain what’s going on for everyone else and watches team and map chat.

You can probably modify that to some extent to work for you.

The suppression is really over the top although i think they have laxed it some. It used to be if i typed to fast i would get suppressed. didnt mater what it was. chat macros would not work.
they seem to work now.

but then again… the chat system is really not good to begin with. can’t play the game while typing.
no icons outside of a group and even then just one targetting icon.

improving the icon system would help so as a commander you can lay down icons that all of your team can see then have that text appear in map and not suppressed.

its a sad state of design but the fact of the matter is that good built in communication in an MMO takes a back seat to just about everything.

its a multiplayer game were you cannot talk and play at the same time. That has never made any sense to me.

I had thought that the commander icon should be an actual item of some kind and while wielding it you got certain abilities.

then you got a whole new world of options.
the commander icon is a player item that can drop. if the commander is killed the item drops as loot retrievable by anyone but only useable by the commander. the 100g thing would have to go.
anyway i digress. The commander thing was added last minute anyway. it will improve… i hope.

It is really hard to get suppressed if you are not typing same thing. It is good to have somebody repeat your commands if you an arrange that. PPL saying use TS is just guild commanders, to reach new players and ppl who doesn’t want to use TS it is better to use chat. Always keep in mind not everybody will join your squad also it is constant battle people log out log in all the time.

you get suppressed when your saying the majority of things in that particular channel. so if you can get people following you to simply type “.” or something you wont get suppressed. but yeah it would be nice if you couldn’t get suppressed while being a commander but you know people would just spend 100g to spam so just try your best to work with what you’ve got

ive found that most suppression comes with rapid messages in a short amount of time. what ive started doing in command, is have someone in my TS repeat orders after i type them once. not only does this keep from suppression, but when randoms see several diff people typing the same thing, it tends to get the point across clearer.

the suppression is a pain, and does need to be fixed, but until then this method has served me well

Ask someone on voip to write what you are saying while you are suppressed. Problem solved.
