T1-would you take a free xfer (to <=T4 )?
No.
And that has nothing to do with the fact that BG won because there are no guarantees for anything next season and it would be stupid to assume given the sheer amount of incredibly good WvW players across multiple servers. Season 1 is over, time to move on.
It has to do with the fact that our guild has been on BG since pre-release and we are both a WvW and a PvE community.
I don’t play just for the WvW playstyle.
I play for my community.
That’s a good question though. And I know there have been suggestions that maybe some of the large guilds on various servers may want to shift to a lower pop server to help. Curious to see where this thread goes, because in the end, the population balance will largely be up to the players.

I understand and I think Anet should look into offering this to the T1 servers because the population is extremely top heavy. It would be good for the T1 servers too because with the new matchup system, BG/SoR/JQ will be playing each other 95% of the time, which will get very stale very quickly.
Since we play in a timezone where only T1 have coverage, that would be a no.

Devona’s Rest would love to see larger, more dedicated WvW & PvE guilds that are willing to STAY in DR- but instead all the main big WvW/PvE guilds in DR are moving away to T-1 servers.
It may or may not balance- but for sure it would certainly help the lower populated servers
I think they should just get rid of charging for transfers completely. I think they’d make a lot more money if they just introduced piles of new skins and other goodies that would beef up the WvW experience itself.
Let people transfer as much as they want, where they want until they find the server they feel the most comfortable with.

That wouldn’t help things as the populations would swing with every match so wildly that no one would know who they are playing with, let alone against.
I’m all for reducing costs for lower tiered servers and beginning to base it on tier instead of total population.
There will still be problems, but it’s a step.
Nope, by the beginning of season 2 we will have the edge of the mist, so there will be no queues

It was like that for several months until they had guesting in place. It just destroyed the ranking system because guilds were hopping servers so kitten much. It also did/would cause many guilds to bandwaggon to the top servers instead of achieving the desired effect of balancing the population.

Do you guys really have that much coverage on the other servers at those times? I’m sure it’s better during holidays and summer, but being EU I imagine you don’t see too many organized guild groups anymore do you?

There will still be queues to get into the normal maps. The edge of the mist will a nice way to fill your time, but will people want to play there the entire time if they aren’t helping their server achieve a season victory?
And say you did want to get into a BL, your guild’s queue will be popping one at a time, so it will still take several hours to get a full force into the normal zones.

This entirely
+1

JQ has a SEA guild that plays during EU prime, along with a militia commander that HB, RK and company says they have a fun time fighting. That’s about it right now though from what I understand. With Coin headed back to EU this week the EU slot is sort of back to where things were before IRON came NA side. A French guild may be looking at SoR but I don’t know where that stands.
To answer the OP’s question. Frankly, no. I’ve been on BG since day one and I’m all-in with the community, which is just an incredible group of people and guilds. No queue can overcome that, and with EotM I’ll have something to do while queued.

I didn’t really see massive queues. Queues were normally under 10-15M if any during NA, and pretty much no queues during other timezones. Depends on what server you play on, though. So my answer is No.
Pre season queues (pre IRON transfer) we had queues during EU, but no, not anymore. I’d expect the EU scene to die down in NA. After IRON left that caused a domino effect on T1.

No.
We transferred out of T1 when TA broke up due to the exact same whinging about balance, and the lack of competition during OCX (combined with culling issues) resulted in the guild leaving GW2.
Expecting non NA to basically roll the dice in a lottery is not the way to solve this issue.

They tried that already during launch. All the tailcoat riders jumped on HoD and ET. And everyone was on these forums begging for paid transfers to end.
This is a good idea IMO but there is no way Anet will sacrifice the cash cow that are server transfers. It’s money out of thin air for them. Balance be kitten ed.
Most of the problems lie with off-hours coverage guilds, and those guilds will be very reluctant to move in general for a variety of reasons (no competition in their tz, low activity in general in their tz, few players that speak their language in new servers). The concentration of those guilds on about 3 servers is what is making T1 servers T1, and is also unlikely to change.
Not willing to transfer when the only decent oceanic coverage lies in T1 and maybe SoS. I’m not going to transfer to a server where there’s no one to play with

No it’s not, and it’s empirically proven to boot. During the first months of play there were free transfers for all and it did nothing for balance. In fact it was worse than the current situation because the fairweathers all went to whoever was winning.

That’s apples and oranges. The OP is about T1 server players having the possibility of transferring to a lower tier server for free. What you are referring to is the exact opposite.

No it’s not. They had the opportunity to do that during the aforementioned period. They didn’t until Condemned stopped playing. Then the non NA guilds found that their membership atrophied because there was no competition in lower tiers, and everyone congregated around a few servers and you ended up in the same situation with people gravitating to a few servers. The server names have changed (SBI, HoD, ET, and SoS have all fallen by the wayside) but little else has.
The Oceanic and SEA populations are such that they can’t support more than a couple of servers, and those servers that get picked will always end up as the Tier 1s. If we wanted small scale battles then we’d do sPvP, but we want GvG so we concentrate our numbers so we have enough to have both allies and people to fight.
Trying to change that is kitten ing into the wind.

Free transfers for T1 is NOT free transfers for all.
Seasons was great since after the first two weeks we had almost no queues. At least we had different matchups. Now with SoR doomed to fight BG and JQ until one of us implodes isnt fun. Now I’m looking for a new server. Pref. T2-3.
Scrub D/D Ele. What’s server loyalty?
Lose all guild unlocks? Nope
It was 2 vs 20 but its ok we got’em both!
No
We’d have moved a long time ago if we could keep our guild perks. But we’d be screwing over our PvErs if we lost our guild mission unlocks. Cost isn’t the concern.

Didn’t realize I was dealing with the short yellow bus. I’ll spell it out for you.
Free. Transfers. For. Everyone. Included. Free. Transfers. For. Tier 1. Guilds. They. Could. Have. Spread. Out. Then. They. Didn’t.
And you conveniently ignored my second point, which is that oceanic and SEA don’t have the population to spread out anyway, and they are a big part of what drives the coverage for Tier 1. Feel free to keep trucking along with your myopic view though, which anet will thankfully keep ignoring.
No thanks. I like my server.

So we disagree. The insults and name calling is hardly necessary.

Queues are not that long on my server, and if the edge of the mist turns out to be a nice place for small team skirmishes I will probably stay there all the times.
Season victory… who wants that ? I don’t play the ppt game, I play the stomping game
I think i souldn t want :/
even outnumbered, or with 2VS1 in my server i Always feel we have a chance
Something i didn t see in lower tiers.
A PvE player is supposed to avoid a 1-2 second 1 shotting aoe.
A WWW player is considered uncapable of avoiding a 5,75 second aoe for half his health.
No, the hours outside of NA prime are a complete bore
Make it simple… 1500 gems to transfer to higher tier servers from your current server, and 500 gems to transfer to lower tier servers from your current server.
