Uh… Big words make brain hurt bad…
If I may point out a few obvious things….
First – If they were deliberately exploiting/hacking what ever you want to call it… wouldn’t it be totally insane to post a video of it on the very board of the game they were doing it on? Knowing full well moderators are always checking these posts?
Second – Since they do not appear to be banned and no moderator has commented, does it not stand to reason that they in fact were not exploiting/hacking as it would be very easy for ANET to look into since the very “evidence” they usually request is right here on the board?
Regardless of how people feel about what method was used – unless we hear other wise from ANET it seems to be legit… for now at least.
That said – well played OP and friend.
P.S. And my normal class is a ranger not thief … but given the WvWvW current dynamics thief is looking more appealing every day…
I keep trying to branch out to use my ranger which I loved so much in GW1, but it seems my thief just keeps calling me back to her. She’s just so cute! XD. How does a full berserker set for a Ranger using SB and S/D work out?
And more people quit Gw2 because of culling and thieves………….
Easy mode is playing a thief in WvW. It’s like playing a single player game on easy difficulty.
Go play a thief in PvE then talk.
That quote just made my day.
well as much as i dislike thieves (except the ones on my server of course) i watched the video a few times and i saw nothing that i would consider an exploit. the tower lord did seem to freeze up for a few seconds. however that looked more like he was confused as to hit at the moment as his enemies kept going invis on him. i think we all have been there when fighting these pesky buggers
@Master Fuhon
remember puff, puff, pass
Purposefully glitching the tower lord is an exploit in my book imo…..

i would agree. however i watched it a few times and it does not look like the lord was purposefully glitched. it did look like he bugged out for a few sec trying to figure out who to attack. this looked more like bad AI dealing with stealth. We really can’t ask a thief to not use a core mechanic because it MIGHT cause a short glitch can we?

Your ranger will end up with 15k hp roughly and will get owned by a thief in a blink
Might consider Power/Tough/Sta armor and Zerk the rest or some combo like that. Will get you to around 20k hp which has alot more survive ability.
There are some decent builds out there, depends what suits your play style and what you plan on doing. Rangers builds seem to be – build for small group/solo pvp or build for PVE/WvW NPC/Siege/Keep Clearing/Defending. Lots of options posted in Ranger forums, just have to find something that works for you.
I want to get something similar like my thief, hence the sb and s/d combo, so that. I may make a transition into a new class

Honestly man I’ve seen a lot of GS-S/D rangers pop up. A ton of gap closers and opener in those builds. Usually they go beast-master though. Looks fun.

Professor Sensei actually admits to exploiting in another thread:
If you use C&D on a tower wall while stealthed it doesn’t cause revealed, and you can stack arbitrary amounts of stealth without having to worry about timing. That’s pretty definitely an exploit, and this guy admits to using it. Just because he doesn’t do it in this one video doesn’t mean it’s not his usual tactic.

All of the WvW keep lords/tower lords are notoriously buggy. It’s happened many times that I’ve seen when one of them just stops attacking for some reason..they get CC’ed and it seems to snap them out of it. Then they’ll get stuck again, etc…If the person they target goes stealth, or decoys, etc they freak out as well. It’s not purposeful bugging in the sense they were trying to bug it. It’s just the lord’s AI seems to freak out when stuff like stealth happens. Sadly, thieves use stealth, so it will look like they are bugging it when they’re really not.

I’ve used the wall trick many times. Not denying it. I still don’t see it as exploiting. But seeing as it will likely get patched we adapted to using a new method. I also go requests from my guild leader and others on my server to hold off on using it until it gets addressed by the GM’s. Until then I am going to hide inside and slap a door over and over and achieve the same end result.

You are a funny guy Kerithlan. Needing a militia to tackle a lone herald of unpleasant truths. Breaking the fourth wall to make a conversation encompass an entire world audience that can’t be present. Grandstanding to an imaginary supportive majority. The ‘illogical’ talk was in reference to skupuz6940. Do I really need to hear from more of Tarnished Coast’s fabled summoned minion RPers here? Maybe a concious being somewhere can contribute more than just an echo.
9:32 in the video, the tower lord finishes off the last ranged Thieves Guild mob. He turns to target a remaining player, and fires a blank shot that causes no health loss on anything; because it hit a low profile geometry obstruction. Then it proceeds to stand there unable to attack anything. Some sort of algorithm causes it to inch forward until it eventually clears the obstruction. Due to the way Professor Sensei executed the pull, the Champ was supposed to inch forward right into another geometry obstruction (corner) that would prevent it from clearing the original one.
If my snap judgements of you guys weren’t hitting a mark with any accuracy, why would you be trying to do it to me? Who repeats methods that they internally know and argue are failing? Did you know that you are throwing media created stereotypes at me and hoping they stick? Have you ever tried to trace whether those stereotype puzzle pieces could fit together and make a consistent person or world, or did you just accept them outright as being true? Performing and pretending isn’t my livelihood; you could be better at it if you intended to make it yours.
The silent majority saw this bicycle wreck coming a mile away. Should moderators care enough to infract and censor, even when everyone knows that boast threads are a kind of inevitable forum excrement? No one even has time to waste performing a failed cognitive intervention on people who choose not to see right/wrong as a necessary component of the video game envionment. How many times has stuff about exploits been clarified officially and the same “we never knew” response was given? Steadfast denial is not proper procedure for the experience of an in-game bug, and yet it has become a genre convention for dealing with them.
The rest, to Gekido: in that first premise you make some assumptions about ‘insanity’. That word is not really a technical term, but a heap where people place everything they deny can be an aspect of humanity. Mental competence is one of the most common things people like to overrate about themselves, and insanity comes to take on alot of qualities of other’s perceived inferiority. Under other definitions, things like skydiving or running a marathon qualifies as insanity because of the unneccessary heightened risk. A formal definition should have a stricter requirement on the difference between normal and abnormal experience. It is ‘insane’ that criminals hold it over law enforcement “you can’t catch me”, but the system has so many loopholes that make this possible.
Second premise you make has some assumptions about a moderator’s job description. Accurate job descriptions are given internally, and are rarely publicized to people who could make doing that job impossible. Because then that job would be made impossible. Overall, you make an assumption here that swift action takes presedence over any kind of due process and developed reasonin, which indicates you are too familiar with television legal systems which wrap things up in under an hour. I can throw an accusation or two around quickly, but these guys will keep bluffing because they know they can’t be convicted officially.
But when you conclude near the end ‘well played, brb rerolling thief’, I realized that you had drawn the same reluctant conclusion of many others to not anticipate changes. The problem is that if the exploit can’t be officially traced, it can’t be officially labeled and corrected. Which is exactly what the cohorts who’ve been posting in this thread hoped to happen.
Going stealth by hitting a wall is an exploit because you get no reveal debuff. Great work exploiting.

We were hitting a door smart one. Doors will still apply the debuff.

Yup, saw the debuff pop multiple times in that video when you mistimed your C&D. Very nice work on the ninja. Tactics like this are what makes that game so fun and rewarding of innovative play. Sucks that the lord bugged out and didn’t fight back, I really wanted to see a proper 2vLord fight.
All stealth skills for every class need a Revealed debuff to trigger as soon as any stealth period ends.
Noone should have to play hide & seek AoEing every wall, gate or siege equipment finding theifs abusing the culling.
And FYI there’s a Thief on SoR who solo’s towers and he also hides legit.

I’ve soloed before but because of my zerk gear it makes it kinda hard to stay alive. Seems like the magic number though is 3 for a quick cap without getting noticed.

Okay, going to ignore the novelist because he is going off topic of what the thread is about, and is intentionally attacking other posters (he will probably do the same with this one about me). Back on topic now.
@Ascii
I agree that it would be possible to solo a tower using S/P with Black Powder and pistol whip for the perma blind on all of the enemies, it can also be done with camps. The only thing is that it’s boring by yourself, and more fun when you’re playing with others. At least, that is my opinion.
Where is the exploit here? All I’m seeing is a couple of dedicated thieves taking advantage of SBI’s lax tower-sweeping to take the tower back. I’m not trolling or anything, proccing stealth from a door seems legit to me, unless ANet have specifically said that proccing stealth from enemy walls or doors is a bannable exploit.
I agree though that it seems to be a design oversight that you can get stealth off inanimate objects or one-hit critters.
