Commander of Phantom Core [CORE] on Borlis Pass
Tactics and the best class for each one
Commander of Phantom Core [CORE] on Borlis Pass
I’ll take a ranger over an elementalist and a mesmer for combating siege anyday. Not because the ranger is stronger but because the ranger farms better and nothing kills a ballista like another ballista.

Ele is on top for supply running. They are by far the fastest profession, not from perma swift either. I chased a d/d ele around for quite a while last night and as a highly mobile thief, there was zero chance of catching him.
Wow. Necro didn’t make the list in any category.
Makes me kinda sad, really.
If I’m missing anything lemme know, I’m not a master at each class, but I have a basic understanding of what happens during WvW.
The amusing part, and you’re spot-on with the clear omission, is that warriors are clearly a waste of time at WvW in this game, second only to necromancers.
Ironic, given that the very name, ‘warrior’, implies ‘one who wages war’ – should’ve named us ‘fodder’ or ‘siege engine operator’ or something, as we’re regularly outclassed in melee and ranged combat, especially in groups. If you want to WvW, apparently, playing a ranger or elementalist is where it’s at for combat & support, playing a mesmer is great if you want to feel needed for that one useful ability. If you want to be a jerk during WvW, play a thief (at least while permastealth allows capping.) Guardians are OK for combat, and are nice for support. Warriors? Feh. Don’t bother.
If you’re not interested in WvW, play a warrior or necromancer.
Your lists are flawed.
First off, supply runs:
1) Ele: dagger/dagger, nuff said
2) Thief: For obvious reasons
3) Warrior: Sword+Warhorn is enough already. Permaswift and a low cd leap. You can top it off with a GS for teh lulz.)
4) Necro: Easy permaswift and almost impossible to burst down)
5) Guardian: No real means to perma stealth but almost impossible to take down. Also 2 jumps with GS+Hammer
6) Ranger: Yes. It happened. I listed a Ranger not as dead last for once. The reason, he’s better than Mezz and Engi is not only because he IS better at supply runs. He is marginally better, but most importantly, he is disposable. You don’t need him on the battlefield anyway, so he might aswell be doing something useful. That being said, he might aswell take the top spot.
7) Mezz: Not the fastest runner on the field but he can break through enemy lines.
8) Engineer: Let’s be honest. Engineer can pack quite a punch. He is also the fastest runner on the field. But that’s about it. He got no jump skills whatsoever. Moreover, he got no good escapes. He’s strong in 1v1 and ZvZ. He absolutely can’t evade the focus of 2-3 guys hunting him down. Even a Ranger can do better. That’s why he’s dead last here.
Second, Dolyak slapping:
same classes as for supply runs.
Mezz and Engineers are just needed in the group. It’s a huge loss to have them solo/tag team somewhere.
Third, killing Siege:
Why no friggin necro?
He’s the best siege killer out there cause his marks and wells spell a big “GTKO”(get the kitten off) for every player on large sections of the wall.

Sounds like you’ve encountered a very serious L2P issue. Don’t panic, though. There are many forum posts and videos on this topic that can help you resolve the situation on your own without having to return your game disc.
Good luck!
Guardian has a super high run speed up time with staff. Add in retreat and GS leap.
[Rage] Smelly Tree Sap — Band Camp Babe — Bannned Character--Spooner
Guardians can’t pull nearly as effectively as Mesmers can. It’s possible with Line of Warding, but the GS grip lacks proper z-axis support so you can’t really use it unless you’re on an even plane with your target.
AoE dps should be added to the list of qualities valuable in WvW. In this regard Warriors and Guardians deliver in spades. They are also quite resilient despite having a high dps output – which makes them very good at front line combat.
Your lists are flawed.

No jump skills? Wrong sir. No good escape? Half wrong. Cant evade the focus of 2-3 guys? Depends on your build and who is chasing you.

I agree with warrior mostly because I don’t know how they work out end game. If what the above poster said is true, they could easily make good dolyak hunters and camp cappers as part of a group, simply because they can take out mass amounts of NPCs without losing too much blood, and that is valuable.
Necros have amazing support abilities and mass debuffs, as well as one of the stronger power builds in the game. However they don’t specialize in anything specific in terms of WvW objectives.
Take it as you will, this was just my take on some common tasks/goals in WvW that can be specialized into.

Should have changed it to “no usable jump skills” instead.
Rifle jump does nothing. You jump off like a rocket and then sit there, staggering on impact for an eternity. In fact, the difference to simply walking with swiftness is marginally at best. If it exists at all. It can be used to rapidly change directions to confuse attackers or to jump at attackers to hold them down. That’s nothing compared to the countless leap skills of other classes which actually improve travel speed.
That’s what I meant with that.
Engi might have the fastest running speed in the game with slick boots and easy access to permanent swiftness but that’s nothing compared to an elementalist which can leap and teleport at will to cross immense distances within seconds.
At the lists:
We need lists for:
-Frontline breakers(Guardian, Warrior mainly)
-Stalling(Necro/Warrior/Mesmer)

I tend to run my necro as something of a force multiplier, its not a particularly good 1v1 career or better at something specific compared to many other careers (in fact a lot of it is quite busted and needs fixing). However in combination with other careers it enhances them in terms of area denial, crowd control, debuff removal and blowing up a whole lot of people.
I seem to kill a lot of people :o

I honestly don’t see many guilds make full use of their guardians. When I was in Condemned we use to do Guardian rotations on choke points to the point that NOBODY could get through. :O
