Hello everyone, I am an FC wvw player, and I need some help. I have been working with others to improve our wvw and I want to know what other people’s tactics are for fighting outnumbered battles. I would also like advice as to the best way to implement these strategies. Thanks a lot

I want to know what other people’s tactics are for fighting outnumbered battles.

Get a warrior, spec Leg Specialist, put him on an Arrow Cart, solo the entire enemy side.

More seriously:

Siege, siege, and more siege.

Stack and focus fire (watch some GvG vids for a demonstration).

Search these forums, tons of discussion on it.

Use chokes, line of sight and flanking amnuvers that take larger forces by suprise. i.e. we were able to wipe a SoR zerg of ~ 50 players with 35 due to not standing in the SoR deathpit and keeping them CC’ed into ours.

Nice but i dont think you get the “outnumberd” bit its 50 vs 5-10max. lol

Edit: Not complaining (b4 any SF bag’s me) just stating the fact’s.

While nugget has the numbers more correct for what we have I think we can still utilize these strategies

I’m not sure how many teams of 5-10 you guys support on a map but my guys specialize in misdirection attacks. Some people don’t enjoy this type of play but when you are outnumbered you don’t have a choice. You have to make the enemy zerg think you are somewhere you aren’t…You have to preclean cannon and oil only to retreat and come back later when they think you are on the other side of the map. Use the quag camps and don’t just flip one…flip them all three. Never pass a keep without smacking the door and clear off their defensive siege before they react. This style of play takes coordination, quick movements, and I can’t stress that you always have to have supply and superior siege. This style of play will help you split their zerg to cover all the possible attacks on the map. Next you need to think about your group makeups…what i mean by this is make sure you have certain classes for specific roles. i.e. a tank crowd control warrior, a zerker warrior, and a healing guardian to stack on in fights (you will notice this if you watch some of the zerg crushing videos). AoE is a must to finish people in a downed state b/c you don’t want to separate your group to spike people. Remember to use the AoE cap to your advantage, if you are stacked (and always stay moving) only five of you will be hit. It’s my opinion that the cap is beneficial to zergs and higher number groups so you will have to work harder and separate their group even more. This is best done with a surprise Mesmer portal bomb, AoE heals, protection bubbles, and arrow cart support if possible.

If you have successfully split their 50 man zerg with misdirection into two groups of 25 and you have 10 – 12 in your group and then you split them again with battlefield tactics you can win that fight. I promise if you research professions and how you can use different style builds to benefit your group you can win a 2 to 1 odds fight if you surprise them. I speak from experience in that my ranger build is strictly a support role for my group…this means I pretty much suck 1v1 but I come alive in a group fight and siege warfare. You will not will every fight being outnumbered but even when you get slaughtered I still seem to have a blast b/c the reward if you beat them is worth the risk.

Next you have to learn each map (which i’m sure most of us are familiar with by now) to identify choke points and where you want to ambush a group. If you have time setup a couple arrow carts to help suppress and rattle the enemy group when you surprise them. Don’t chase stragglers (use your thieves for this) and make sure your group is in a voice chat program to help with coordination.

When sieging a structure try to identify the current defensive setup and build in locations they will have trouble stopping you unless they charge out to you. This way you can have an ambush setup of their group and hopefully they will be focused on killing your siege while you smash them with your open battlefield tactics (see zerg smashing videos). However, if you have taken the time to go around and scrub structures you can generally cap a tower with 10-12 in two to three mins if you are well organized and use superior siege. In addition to good siege placement you have to cut the supply lines from the enemy so they can’t just keep repairing the walls without running supply themselves. This does two things. It requires a larger defensive force to keep repairs flowing and it keeps them from charging you over and over. Basically you have to keep the other team worried about one thing while your other hand is doing the real work.

In conclusion never fight a zerg with those odds. It is rare if ever that you will win a 10 v 50 fight but you can use misdirection and confusion to help even the odds a little more and you can win sometimes. My group seems to always fight with odds against us but it has made us rethink our builds to compliment each other and allow us to fight like we are twice our numbers. Also, use terrain advantage, choke points, and siege.

I know i’ve explained this with general strategy so if you want more specifics just PM me and i’ll try to drill down on the topics you need more help on. There are just so many aspects of coordination that are needed to win when outnumbered it’s hard to really dissect each one without writing a book. I really hope this helps you as I know from fighting on both sides of the number game how it is hard to keep going back and fighting against those odds.
