Guild Wars 2

So I bought the game yesterday and joined the Tarnished Coast as I’ve heard it’s the hub for all RP in NA. As a RP fan and someone who also loves large-scale PvP, I figured this was a good option as I’ve also heard that TC had a well organized WvW group of players.

Since logging into the scene, it appeared as if the server was in a 2v1 battle against the other two (Blackgate and something else… can’t remember). Also, on just about every map I explored, there were these random 5-10 man zergs running around crushing any 1-2 man team. Is this typical of what I should expect? If I really enjoy the concept of WvW, was it a mistake to join a T1 server?

no matter what server you join, you gonna learn a lot in any server that you join and start playing WvW. not only that your in a T1 server. that you’re gonna have quicker access to most of the content and the game on that server. purely based on how healthy that server is.

so no. its not a mistake. and if it was. you’ll learn what you can before you transfer to another server.

another piece of advice. follow zergs and random roaming groups. and engage in chat as where thats probably where you’ll learn a lot about wvw as well as putting your skills and knowledge into practice

Yes, it’s what you should expect – organised groups crushing unorganised (or lesser organised) groups. It happens to every server, every tier.

Also, it’s usually not a 2v1 on purpose, but simply players taking advantage of easier kills/caps on the weaker side.

The way they have it set up now with the server linking there is no escaping it. I transferred down in fact from the server you are on just to see the same soul crushing blobs roll over the nice little community I found.

Okies… I suppose that the next time my blob rolls some poor guy trying to solo a camp, I won’t feel so bad. Lol!

T1 is like that, also your server is kinda crushing T2 atm, I’m pretty sure SBI/FA are saying the exact same things about your server.

Solo roam is hard in WvW.

You need to have confidence to take on 1v2 against average players and the ability to escape larger groups.

It is much easier for you to play with a group first either roaming or zerging.

I used to be able to 2v1 back on my old D/D Ele after beta was released but on my Necro, it’s so much trickier.

Yeah, some profession can do it relatively easier.

Current equivalence to old DD ele is druid.

You probably already are aware of this but hooking up with the RP community and doing so in conjunction with the awesome TC folks would be best. It isn’t always like what you describe but you will find that WvW lately is kinda like that. Even on the lower tiers, due to the matchup volatility people will steamroll. Very lame. Its part of what we’ve all been discussing for awhile now.

TC has a forum that could help you find like minded folks also!

I’m not sure I follow you with the comparison. Are you talking about how effective they are or overall play style?

The way they can both sustain a fight while still dealing consistent damage.

Celestial avatar form also feels like ele going into water and come back with full health and 0 conditions.

If you like solo roaming, join a very low tier. If you like organized groups, utilizing voice chat, and structure, then ask in WvW general chat if any WvW guilds are recruiting. They’ll point you to the community site, where most anyone will help you find a guild.

Word of note though, stay ignorant, and just have fun. Realizing the bigger picture will only widen your eyes to the orwellian nature of the community at large.

Fair point. I’ve always assumed Mag fed off of souls. :p

If I recall Tarnished Coast and Blackgate did quite a bit of “teaming up”, when fighting Jade Quarry back in Seasons. However I treat TC members not so much as RP, but as Duelists. Yes you’ll have quite a bit of fun as an RP server in PVE. But come into WvW, you best be prepared for lots of “gentleman’s” agreements when it comes to proper fighting etiquette on their server.

TC during it’s bottom of the heap tier level early on, and a few other servers, came up with a way to fight in WvW with a low population. Roughly an equal amount of people on the servers would meet up at the southern camp near the windmill, and fight. Mostly came out this way after Season 1 in wvw, due to people transfering to servers that were considered tier 1. This created a huge Server imbalance when people were jumping ship from servers that consistantly lost during Seasons. Those that stayed behind on their original servers started to lag behind in WvW fights and getting dropped to the lowest tier’s due to this population loss.

Enter the duelist’s who came up with the idea of a ‘fair fight’. Equal numbers. 1v1 or havoc 5 man vs. same amount. And in some cases guilds would host 30 vs 30 fights. Your probably on one of the most honorable servers that I know of. Except for that one instance where they hooked up with Blackgate to beat up their opponants. Of course that was the first and last hookup because they learned the hard way of what a knife in the back is all about too.

Still TC did start climbing the rungs, due to it’s RP status and that several high tier level WvW guilds wanted more of a challenge and decided to change servers. Hence the rise of TC to a top rung.

I’d say it’s a good choice for your particular likes.

I don’t know what timezone you play but if you play NA and want some action just go follow OnS they run larger then most groups on TC and have a pretty good understanding of whats going on. Outside of that just learn what commanders are good and what ones are not, following a bad tag is the least fun thing you can do and will just lead to dying and frustration and even more so if you are new.

tc gets teamed by mag/bg every time they get this matchup. blackgate is the ultimate cuck server and constantly spawn camps tc so mag can run around and do as they please. i have alts on both mag and bg and the amount of auto-fellatio that goes on in map chat when this happens is hilarious
