How dare they run up levels……whats the world coming to.
IDK how many times I’ve risked my tail to try and help people win a fight without checking to see if they are upleveled. Shame on me or shame on them, not sure.
Quoting a good friend of mine (Hey Poppy!), I’m confused! On the one hand we have die-hard WvW players who swear blind they have no interest in PvE and do everything in WvW .. including levelling up.
And on the other, we have die-hard WvW players complaining bitterly that uplevels shouldn’t come along ruining their game by dying fast, being rally-bots, etc..
I am a level 80 Necro – rank 280 or something (don’t care about my rank .. just the points I need to fill out my WvW traits) – just about average skill (I get by, mostly supporting my guild’s raids of 15 to 20) – in other words, experienced and know what to do.
My warrior alt is lvl 50+ , rank 7 or 8, absolutely no experience as a warrior (only reason I’m doing it is because one of our commanders has asked me to so I can experience the class), but willing to learn. I come to WvW so I can get the rank points and level up. Straight up honest about how unskilled I am. What I need is help and advise – not qq/crying about how quickly I die.
If I’m doing wrong, rather than berating me, it would be more helpful if you helped me out so that next time, I’ll be more useful. Win-win situation delivered!
(I have to know! In WvW, do Legendary NPCs drop Legendary loot?)
If you want to level fast, use the professions and a booster.
It’s a bit more expensive, but supposedly so is your real life time.
Bringing a low level in WvW is kind of selfish. You are obviously there to leech.
If you enjoy that… no comment.
Actually upleveleds are the most powerful if you gear them right. You can have a lvl2 thief deliver 18k backstabs with 2.8k armor and 20k health, just need a lot of liquid wxp (for guard stacks), hero’s band and the best available lvl2 gear, food and such. Same goes to all other professions it’s just a matter of taking time gearing it up.

Kind of. You have to know where you can go and where you can’t go as an uplevel. Uplevels running a circuit in a small group flipping camps and killing sentries is acceptable to me. In an even to outnumbered fight, where you can risk losing a lot, you should not be on an uplevel. Jumping in on a fight to help your servermates is an “enter at your own risk” situation.
Whether or not you are viable as an upscale depends on:
- Your exact level, typically when I level an alt I refresh my armor at 10-level increments (and equip whatever I pick up thereafter). Sadly this means that at levels x7 – x9 I am under-armored for my skill level (don’t get me wrong, there are a good many players who can play with armor 9 levels below their character level).
- Player skill.
- If you are good at positioning.
Upscaling is actually somewhat unbalanced – in the way that upscales have an unfair advantage (this peters off at about level 70 or so – 70-80 should be PvE exclusively if you care about your team) – so long as you are not level 40 with e.g. level 20 armor (that’s where upscales get their bad name).
So a disciplined upscale (who knows their limits) should be fine in most cases, however; most upscales are newbies who just want tower caps to level – and that’s why you have a problem with them.

To me uplevels are ok on karma train fridays or if you’re not running with the zerg. You should be running your mains if you have any at 80 that is, at every other time.

I don’t mind that… what always bugged me is when I dive in to help someone then they run off leaving me with “the bill”.
Oh or that moment when you are getting cut down in a 4v1 situation and you can see 5+ green dots on the wall behind you standing around.

Yeah I stopped bothering to save Monkey when he gets ganked on his way from one tower to the next too. I learned my lesson! :P

I never thought of it like this, you make a brilliant point. I know one of the guild tags that I saw was from a hardcore WvW guild, maybe the guys were leveling in WvW because it’s their only interest. It’s hard to fault them if that was the case.

there is no reward for rushing in to save someone. you might as well wait and then get the xp res’ing their corpses.
That moment when…
You ask the guildie you’re running with if it’s okay if you use an up-level. He cheerfully says sure, whatever I want to run is fine…
… and you realize you’re lucky to be in a guild with someone like him and not someone like the OP.
You see a few of your teammates in the distance having a small fight with a few enemies. You rush in to try and help them win the fight, they get cut down in an instant and you can’t do anything for them. The enemies gank you as you stand there all alone. You click on your teammates to see what class and build they are running…
And they are all uplevels.

Who cares, they want to have fun in WvW with their lower level characters. Help them out. Some people like to level their characters in WvW, cause they don’t find the rest of the game exciting.
Also, people who hate uplevels, I have a question. When you started playing the game, did you level a character all the way to level 80 before you ever stepped into wvw? I’m sure most of you took uplevels into wvw in your early days.
I still have yet to bring an uplevel into WvW for anything besides bordlerland defense/upgrading/yak escorting.
I think the minimum you need to be is level 50 and buy new armor every 10 levels and the latest upgrades at the levels those upgrade. As another post said, you can being a properly equipped lvl 2 character and do good damage, but you are missing your elite skill and a bunch of traits.
Karma trains and blobs are good for uplevels, raid times not so much.

More uplevel bashing… A lot of them are just scrubs if they die often let them get experience in WvW the hard way.
I see allies letting them die a lot more often than saving them.

I don’t think anyone would care except any hardcore WvW player has seen these guys rally hard earned kills time and time again.
