The 3 class wvw
Roaming wise, you’ll mostly see thieves/warriors/d/d eles/mesmers
After all, they are roaming classes to begin with. Zerg warfare the better classes(at least in organized zergs)
Warriors, guardians, eles, mesmers, necros
Correct me if I’m wrong, but all of these classes have nerfs that were applied in s/tPvP that did NOT get propagated to WvW.
Guardian heal on dodge roll.
Ele’s healing and mobility (someone can fill in the details)
Thief reveal timer
It’s too bad that these classes aren’t receiving the needed balance changes in WvW.
They are good in wvw and weak in spvp ( My opinion). Thieves were nerfed (mug) and only kill players super fast if they have 25stacks of bloodlust+ full berserker + traited for that, so they have around 12-13k hp, guardians have good healing but they have 10k-15k less hp than a warrior , and eles have the same hp of thieves and the light armor, if you remove their boons and all mobility they would become just easy targets for everyone.
You can’t balance the real pvp (wvw) based on a stand in the circle game.
Both guardian and eles need boons to be strong, you can use anti-boon mecanics like corruptboon, mesmer/thief/sigils/traits for boon removal or do + dmg per boon. And I dont see a problem of 2 thieves kill you if you are alone, its a 2×1 would be unbalanced if they lose.
There are always going to be trends in profession choices. The fact that you saw only one mesmer means something. There used to be tons of mesmers. People bandwagon. Killing bandwagoners is far easier than killing someone dedicated to their profession despite nerfs or buffs.
Dragonbrand
First off OP what class do you play? Second, what tier are you in? T1 roaming is on another level vs tier 2 and tier 2 on another level vs tier 3. That goes for pop and class distribution also.
Wv3 roaming is balanced around one class thief. No other class can out roam a thief or out chase one that’s a fact.
Also arrow cart is not there to down players just hamper them. I you want to CC a class go down there and CC them if not stick to your siege and hope to get lucky.
Corrupting boons and stealing them is the counter to boons not confusion. You got your facts mixed up because you can still do both those things.
Also you need to expand your WvW knowledge.
In siege Mesmer Necro and Engineers can be invaluable.
Rangers can be strong roamer and are one of the best 1v1 classes out there.
DD ele is really only good for roaming is siege its usefulness is waning vs staff.
Bunker guards are great support but they don’t hit hard and aren’t very fast.
Once you get into zerg you see a lot of every class roaming is a little different.
Also you name a lot of situations where players used team work to support each other. Last time I checked there is nothing wrong with that.
Wrekkes-Engineer Kore Rok Thief-Asraithe-Ele
I fear full stealth thieves and another d/d ele. I find it funny when i see a solo warrior.
I also run away like a puss when fighting more than 2.
Eles can still run fast but its harder.
Engies fotm are now tanky.
I see less glass toons in wvw.
Thieves and mesmers is what I see more than anything.

I believe necros have always been the counter to huge stacks of boons……. too bad no one plays them in WvW.

thief had the nerf reverted…..(people still wonders why)
Ele was violated in both WWW than PvE (250% nerf to his best skill and another big nerf on the best utility….what do you want more?)….if you still lose from a D/D ele post patch its your fault.
Finally PvP balance is done about silly things like capture points and spirit watch….
So its quite clear you should not ask for nerfs ignoring things like that….
If it was about what matters in WWW you’d see nerf to thieves, warriors, necros etc etc etc…
Not ele for sure….
A PvE player is supposed to avoid a 1-2 second 1 shotting aoe.
A WWW player is considered uncapable of avoiding a 5,75 second aoe for half his health.
I believe necros have always been the counter to huge stacks of boons……. too bad no one plays them in WvW.
I don’t know where you play, but in T2 NA necros are everywhere.

I lol’d.
I’ve played every class in wvw to 80, full exotics, and various builds – I even have three rangers for different racial skills
I have played T1 EU, T2, T4, T7 and T8, and probably all the tiers inbetween.
I avoid T1 like the plague- might be nice to clock up wExp like it going out of fashion but 3 hour queues in my limited (nowadays) wvw time isn’t my idea of fun and relaxation.
And I was talking about the 20-30 man ‘zergs’ when I mentioned it all being guardians, eles and thiefs.
Dependent on the time of day and whether the guild is running something decides which class I will play, although generally it is a bow ranger as I like a challenge:-)
Necro was fun for a while until loads of them appeared, and mesmer glamour support build was great until the nerf bomb fell on it- now it feels like kitten into the wind whilst retaliation still eats me if I try a barrage on a zerg…
Yeah but two of those are being played because they can basically gank at will and get away from any fight, even ones they picked…
One’s just being played just because it’s the only half-decent heal/support class….
So there’s that? I don’t really think nerfing the only group heals we’re regularly getting is gonna make wuvwuv more interesting….

You forgot the lack of boon duration buff on gear. Now Eles with asc gear are impossible to kill. Wait till they introduce more asc gear.
WvW should never have had consumable buffs allowed nor buffs from progression of your server in the match. It just makes the imbalance even worse. That is why a lot of people just give up on small group fun and start zerging or iphone gaming -i.e. sieging- till they get bored and leave the game.
Poor design. They should have made the classes the same as in spvp gear wise etc. Nothing beyond exotic gear and no consumables or buffs from any other pve or wvw source.
Once the new asc gear gets introduced you will see the one shotting surface again and people will just leave wvw even faster.
here’s what i mostly saw tonight:
Thiefs, usually in pairs, or thief and engineer.
D/d eles
Tank/healing Guardians
There were so many d/d eles freely running back and forth – even if they get to 10% health they just run away and are back to 100% in seconds. Backed up by Guardians stacking all sorts they become almost impossible to take down. Both these classes wonder around quite happily in arrow cart shots ignoring them.
Thiefs are even more annoying in pairs or with engineer support- now that engineers can spike with 25 stacks of might on, keep up healing the whole time while running around on speed and then be stealthed by the thief…
Think I saw ONE mesmer the whole time- and he was probably mainly there for portal duty.
Few rangers around, but they seemed to be a bit clueless.
So the huge nerf to confusion has succeeded in removing the best effective counter to huge stacks of boons, leaving the boon-laden classes free to dominate.
The lack of diversity in wvw is starting to make it a bit montonous.
Bring back confusion!
Problem solved.
I believe necros have always been the counter to huge stacks of boons……. too bad no one plays them in WvW.
Except that mesmers can also counter huge stacks of boons, and it’s an AoE to boot.
The devs don’t care about WvW so I’m gonna kill players in PvE!

HEY!! haha it was probably me Eternal Battlegrounds? Captaininsanno
? thats me
i dont understand where the problem with ele, thief, def guard or mesmer is? ranger are 200% harder to fight if they are specced and played the right way.

10 characters in full exotics? I’d be burned out too. Go outside sometimes…
I play my mesmer extensively, but no on your server which is why you didn’t see me. I’ll tell you what… you and your guild should consider transferring over to Jade Quarry. You’ll see a lot more character diversity there still. Plenty of all professions from what I’ve last seen.
I believe necros have always been the counter to huge stacks of boons……. too bad no one plays them in WvW.
I do. The most fun I’ve had in WvW is running my necro; excellent range and aoe control, decent dps (no spike damage though). I can absolutely trainwreck enemy groups with a full set of marks, some additional bleeds from scepter and epidemic.
And fighting guardians is hilarious; I just wait for ‘save yourselves’ then pop corrupt boon and they’re done.

This guy doesn’t see elementalist which isn’t normal for me. Its all different for everyone.
If you like roaming in WvW you will gravitate towards classes that allow you to do so. I have a thief, mesmer, and a warrior. 2 of which have very good mobility warrior is capable of roaming but you have to pick your fights a bit more. Mesmer doesn’t have as good mobility as the other 2 but its decent and has enough get out of jail cards to allow for escapes.
The roaming classes that are seen the most allow you to escape if you need to you have a way out when 50% of your stuff is on cd after you just got in a fight and you notice a zerg coming.

A roaming group of eles and thieves often benefits by having a guardian in-tow. Helps to have an tough target handing out boons and taking focus-fire while the high-dps classes do the cleaning.
Engineers hit like a truck. In small group action they’re pretty awesome.
There’s lots of specialist builds. But they’re specialists, a component of a proper group build. That’s something a lot of people have overlooked in this game, teams. Real guilds.
Far too many people hanging around in wow-style pug guilds.

This is probably partially caused by ANets abhorrent implementation of “Guild Management Tools.” Namely that there aren’t any. If ANet took guilds seriously, the players would probably take them seriously.
