The Future of WvW
IMO, the future of WvWvW looks grim. It’s obvious that the slow reaction to many of the issues posted here has discouraged many people to the point of quitting the game temporarily or worse, permanently.
Hacking reports, free transfers, unbalanced server matchups, are just a few concerns the community has expressed over and over again.
Last night I logged off after 10 minutes. It may be time for me personally to take a brief hiatus until things are sorted out.

WvW has a future?

Sadly I’m having the same feelings. played WvWvW for about 10 minutes last night and logged out of the game completely went to play LoL. Probably won’t log in at all tonight.

Paid tournaments: gems required to participate
WvW: no gems required to participateFrom a business standpoint, it only makes sense to devote the majority of development resources to the profitable aspects of the game. I’m having a vision of empty WvW maps, and it’s a bit worrying.
LOL no
From a bad businessman point it might look that way
Any good business will go where the numbers are (wvw) and find ways to sell gems there
Why Anet has no ideas on selling gems in wvw? Because all of its decent designers are assigned on spvp.
What possible gem sales could exist in wvw? Plenty. But I’ll let you on the most profitable one:
- nightcapping immunity
The recent shake up that occurred in the NA Tier 1 ranks demonstrates how fragile WvWvW is at the moment.
I’ve feel that I’ve gotten my $60 worth, no question about that. If I was into PvE, I could entertained for a long time. Sadly though, I bought the game solely for WvW play.
The question is, will the game interest me enough to invest anymore time or money into it in the future.

despite the invisible opposition WvW is a blast, I have no idea what everyone else wants from it.
It seems that people are too worried about the score. Ignore that ticking counter its a load of rubbish anyway, look at what keeps you have when your guild goes into the lake. look at what you have when you guys leave and smile to yourself at having had a fun night.

Its not the ticking counter.. i dont give a poo about that to be honest..
Its all about progression.. after 80 and gear WVW has no progression just a continuous stream of zerg and fight npc… People that play WvW need something to work towards otherwise its pointless.. Like spvp, it has progression and now its getting even more love and attention. they always state the customers drive them to produce material that the customers want and yet they seem to be making decisions based on income over the games needs.
I agree with you OP that WvW is in some sorry shape as it currently stands. This was one of the key selling points of this game for me and if I’m honest I’m sorry I wasted the money after seeing how poorly implemented WvW is. The other more distressing issue with WvW is how poorly Anet is supporting it after launch. Does it have a future? Not really, because by the time Anet gets around to fixing the glaring issues with it and possibly opening up some dialogue with their WvW players, most of them will have moved on.

We’ve seen countless other games with empty maps/zones because developers simply gave up on large scale pvp. I really hope that doesn’t happen to GW2.
Lol it’s not like sPVP is in good shape. It’s pretty much abandoned by Anet. The only thing they’ve managed to do so far is fix a few bugs and promise stuff that was announced pre-release (and that promise took 3 weeks to even be published).
In terms of actually adding CRUCIAL features that sPVP needs to survive… nothing.

I agree with this.
I would like the invisible enemy issue fixed for WvW and also if possible an extend of the WvW maps … currently I am on a low populated server and during the evening I cannot get into any WvW instances. I hope something will change in the future, because PvE has not interest to me, like many other GW2 players it seems.
I hope the WvW design team will get some great ideas in the near future and improve this area a lot.
