ive ask this a few years back since im planning on coming back.. how important is gear in WvW between Exotic & Ascended.. can someone survive with exotic gear in WvW.. or is it all skilled based and on knowing you class and such

You can survive in Exotic gear just fine.

The answer is none of the above.

Gear isn’t a huge deal, but it’s also not skill based. Knowing your class helps, yes, but it’s mostly Build Wars.

Full Ascended gives you some advantages. But if your good you can survive in exotic gear with a decent build.

Optimal exotic gear is better than not optimal ascended gear.

Ascended would only ever really be important if you planned on mainly looking for 1v1s or 1vXs. For everything else the main thing you need is a bit of mobility and map awareness. So cheap exotics are absolutely fine.
