On EU most maps are dead after 0400 (4 am) and people get online earliest at 0800 again.
On NA servers you have a 24 hour queue because of EU, NA/SA, SEA and OCX players.

How exactly do you propose that the US “distribute its player base”? There’s a limited number of hours in the day for everyone and an even more limited number of hours to play video games.
But seriously, in the past we would all be scared kittenless when only our north towers were getting hit. Most EB group would hop to bl just to save the north towers. Now it’s like, Air Keep? Fire Keep? What are they? Oh just another supply camp flipped on our bl.

XTD is one of the few people on this forum that discusses things from a mostly un-biased perspective.
8 hours after reset:
-the hype on equality
-the fear of queues
-the biased pips that does not want to have equal population in order for a fair game
-the world where guilds can be traded for gold came to a halt because instead of buying some guilds in order to rank up tiers, you are given a whole server for free

0800 pm to 0400 am (as stated above) is less then 24 hours.

They are not solving the queue issue by mergings servers, nor does that solve the coverage issues since some servers still have coverage outside of NA prime and others do not so that just makes it worse.
They can easily solve the queue issue and the “coverage wars” by putting more maps in play during busy hours and reducing that number during off hours so you only have enough maps available to accommodate the population of the servers in the match. that solves both issues at once and is a long term solution rather than just make monstrous queues and make the game unplayable for the people trying to play it.

There are 7 NA full servers vs 6 full EU servers. The top 6 EU servers did not get linked to another server for the new matchups, so why did that not happen for NA? Servers such as ET got pushed onto a T1 server that did not need nor want extra players and ET did not want the zerg fights that T1 are.
The server links need to me adjusted IMMEDIATELY. The top 6 NA servers (at least) need to be solo and the remaining servers need to be joined to balance the lower tiers. which would combine the lower 18 into 9 servers which would have led to 5 matches each week.
Lol are you saying that dead FA needed to be solo just because it was in T2 lol.
Just going to throw this out their at you, if the game is no longer fun for you at all, then it sounds like you need to find another game that suit your needs.

Yes.. Apparently thinking it is nuts to expect players to spend their game time in the action rather than waiting to get to it is wrong and they should just sit there and wait if they hate EotM rather than go do something fun elsewhere Mr. Blah blah. LOL
This flaw is making the game unplayable to many and should be corrected if they do not wish to further kill the game mode. You should always want more players to play the game mode for the game to grow, not punish them for doing so.

Empty maps aren’t realy promoting this game mode either.
For many players the reason to play WvW is to whack on other servers blobs, best non-stop.
EotM has a bad reputation because of it’s karma trains and some (or many) players don’t like it’s mechanics and layout. But in it’s core it’s not different to eb or borders.

The proposed solution removes Empty maps, massive queues, and coverage wars as I stated repeatedly they need to have the number of WVW maps in play adjust to population rather than have players wait or have too much map to cover.
EoTm has a bad reputation due to the entire design. The jumpy super mario PVE kittenfest it is is why it turned into a Ktrain to lvl up accounts instead of a playable battlefield. It isn’t considered a good battlefield for Large scale PvP, it is linear, crammed full of PvE gimmicks, lacking strategic value where you are more likely to die from running off the world than at the hands of another player. linear choke points = boring as hell. The " tick" is supposed to be based on PPK, not PPT if the scoring was done properly.
If they did the scoring and rewards right it would be rewarding players for fighting other players over objectives without the use of siege and not rewarding players for PvD kill npc, get chest at all. It would give increased PPK, XP and ascended or legendary loot for fighting other players without the use of siege over objectives ( either attacking or defending) give no reward or XP for killing NPCs and would give no PPK, loot, or xp for siege use on players. Rewarding players for dying as fast as they can so they can go pvd undefended towers and have their zergs siege hump instead of fight is why people no longer care about winning and why many players left the game. To correct this, they need to solve the actual problems causing the problem not just give you some garbage you didn’t ask for instead.

I am so ashamed with Anet right now. I know they tried their best at merging servers due to lack of people playing on the lower tiers but seriously now. Regardless of Reset, regardless of beta, I sure hope Anet goes back to the way it was. There is no communication with teamspeak, there is no coverage, forget the PPT; everyone and their mother put up a tag and no one knew who to follow except following your own guild (if they even got in). When we tried to tell the other server the meaning of different color tags we all got trolled. Trying to deal with another server along with their troll guilds was horrible. And I understand the linguistics of trying out the beta but if it continues the way reset was you can forget it. Im sure other servers were complaining and Im hoping Anet takes these complaints into consideration.The ques are horrifying, could not get my whole guild in wvw and god forbid you dc because of the lag.
Anet please reconsider this merge because you will have alot of people UNABLE to participate in WvW. You really didnt think this through and I honestly thought it was going to get better and it ended up worse.

I can only see three issues with the mergers.
1. If there is a map queue 24/7, how can WvW grow?
2. Coverage still wins. Night capping will eventually cause players to leave.
3. Merged servers that work well together might eventually be forced apart when a re-balance occurs.
Now for the good.
Was any server outmanned? Being outmanned and out-coveraged are probably the two biggest deterrents to WvW player participation.
Even if there is a re-balancing of merged servers, it won’t be as bad as when a key guild decides to transfer. With re-balance you will lose guilds, but you will get some in return, which will help maintain population and morale.
As for low pop WvW, Anet made WvW for large scale PvP. While I think they could have set it up as having multiple map cap tiers where a player can freely transfer between cap tiers, I can see why it’s one size for all.
These mergers and queues will encourage people to move to tier 3 and 4 now which is a positive for balance . So if you don’t like the queues then move to tier 3 or 4 .This was Anet’s intention to try and balance the tiers and get people to spread out .

I understand the frustration, but queues will settle down and even out. We’ve seen this a few dozen times before.
The long term benefit that comes from a more robust experience across ALL servers should significantly outweigh any minor inconvenience we are seeing today.

Here’s the thing: the people in low tiers who want small man and solo roaming are a small minority. The majority likes zergs. There’s a reason why people gravitated toward the higher tiers. A greater number of people prefer it.
So yeah, your playstyle got pooped on, but guess what? Less people care about your playstyle than do a more zerg focused playstyle.
WvW is already the least popular game mode, and low tiers were the least popular of the least popular. Any surprise why anet wanted to merge the servers so your average John Q. Zergling could have fun? No. Anet wants people to play wvw, be happy, and spend gems so they can be pretty while in wvw. No one cares about being pretty when you’re solo capping a camp.
I see some people saying wvw is back and alive, cough its not back and alive its called scrapping together whats left to save it, but with what i’m seeing going around from guilds not being able to run on reset because of ques, and or people not enjoying the blob fest, sure those who stay will be those who enjoy the blobs and or ignore the ques on reset and just wait it out, but there will be that large populace that we lose because they can’t get in with there friends, they can’t get there guilds to run reset weekends because of ques, reality is no one is crying but rather pointing out flaws in the world-linking. So I think what people really need to ask themselves are they okay with losing probably even more people from the wvw community because of this system, that was thrown together to salvage whats left of WvW, or will they have common sense and look at how they could revitalize the old system, which would have a better outcome of making the wvw community larger.

Pre-reset WvW experience (IOJ):
- Zero tags on most maps, lucky to have 1 or 2 tags on reset for all maps
- Trying to cobble 3-4 guildies together to run on the maps – maybe 10 on reset
- Desperately calling out in map chat for a few more supply to finish off cata #2
- Hitting fully upgraded walls for 20 minutes with nobody to stop us (because of course nobody was around to stop the upgrades from happening either)
- Running into another 5-man group once and a while and if we are lucky having 15v15 once in a blue moon
Post-reset WvW experience (IOJ / JQ)
- 25-30 excited guildies mashing the button to beat the queue (we got into a bl together with little trouble)
- Seeing 4 tags on a BL map
- Enemies and friends in every direction attacking everything
- Auras and tactivators mattering
- YB keep still having paper walls after an hour (yak running will be a thing up here?)
- Commanders throwing down 5 superior catas to take down a paper wall
- The excitement of my guild group making it YB garry lord’s room only to be demolished by a huge group of defenders
- To top off the night, a 40 minute 3-way fight inside air keep (which we had held all night); running back from spawn to defend air keep? Unprecedented!
All in all – stand ovation Anet (from me at least!)

Then your server must’ve been dead since day 1.
Queue’s this long have not been seen in a while because interest in WvW dwindled and dwindled untill it reached an all time low after HoT, but they have been seen before.
An hour+ queue was quite normal every night in a big server. The queue’s is what lead to the push for EotM, an overflow map where people could play untill their queue was up. It may suck that we have to wait sometimes (currently no queue’s at all, on a saterday), but suggesting this is unheard of is just dishonost.
I don’t mind waiting in a queue, WvW was a lot more fun when this many people got involved. The people complaining they “cannot escape the blobbing” anymore are met on the otherside by the people who are happy they can finally do more than solo cap a camp, without having to spend real money to transfer.
Our server got paired with a small server for the next three months, and after spending quite a bit of time chatting with players from this it seems theyre all very happy with this change.
Ultimately this just brings back the age old discussion where some people don’t like large scale pvp in a game mode that is all about large scale pvp. And this group of people has been trying almost since launch to lobby, push, and argue, for destroying large pvp in WvW. Basicly what they want is a pve map with PKing.
Outside of Anet devs, who considers EoTM WvW?
I do, as it is mechanically the same as WvW (although it has a few unique aspects), people dismiss it because it doesn’t contribute to the week long matchup in any significant way, however, the map is in fact finally able to be used for its intended purpose.
The map exists solely for you to have the option to play in a map with WvW style mechanics while you are sitting in a queue, but the system isn’t going to force you to do that if you’d rather just sit in LA instead.

There are 7 NA full servers vs 6 full EU servers. The top 6 EU servers did not get linked to another server for the new matchups, so why did that not happen for NA? Servers such as ET got pushed onto a T1 server that did not need nor want extra players and ET did not want the zerg fights that T1 are.
The server links need to me adjusted IMMEDIATELY. The top 6 NA servers (at least) need to be solo and the remaining servers need to be joined to balance the lower tiers. which would combine the lower 18 into 9 servers which would have led to 5 matches each week.Lol are you saying that dead FA needed to be solo just because it was in T2 lol.
Just going to throw this out their at you, if the game is no longer fun for you at all, then it sounds like you need to find another game that suit your needs.
I don’t know where or when you play, but FA certainly isnt dead when I play on it. Also I never said about the game being no fun, they were your words. Being stuck in a Q for hours on end is no fun. I made a suggestion that I believed to be better than the mess anet created last night, all you did was tell someone who gave feedback on the beta to go play another game, so you lost all credibility right there.

WvW is unplayable for me now. The lag has become horrendous to the point I can’t do anything but sit back and pray I don’t get bursted down. Nothing but huge blobs everywhere. It’s no fun. I didn’t stay on crystal desert for t1 kind of gameplay. I don’t like zerging in mindless blobs of range spamming idiots with the worst lag I’ve had than ever before. I could care less about the wait time and I did want more population in my tier area, but this is just way too far. Now I’m stuck with blob vs blob gameplay, which I hate, and lag that makes the game mode unplayable. Awesome, thanks for pushing me out of the game mode.

The other big problem for the desert maps other than the drops that lead to death and barricades was that they were too big for the current population to fill up the space with enemies leading to arguments that travel time between fights was too large. Now that there are actually enough people to fill up the maps take that pole out of your kitten and go and play on the desert borders.

I’m a casual player and I only have time to play gw2 for about one hour per day. The queue time essentially prevents me from playing WvW, which is the only part of the game that I really enjoy.
Queues weren’t even this bad on launch weekend for me. I’m a casual player on a fairly casual server and I liked it that way.
EoTM have no qs
go play there for one hour a day, its 3 hours per match there 24/7
the match on Worlds are a week look, so EoTM suits your playstyle

Now, look, atm there is 15 ppl queue for EB and NO ONE in queue for other borders. So why can’t u just go to other border instead of blobing at Eb?
DBL is still much less fun than EBG. Queues need to get pretty big before a guild will spill over into a BL. Probably would’t be the case if we had Alpine back….
Yes, yesterday was clearly a special day. First reset after linking, this was doomed to happen. We need to see if this settles.
Personally, having always been on a lowest tier server, it was nice to see so much activity on the maps. It is really a nice change of pace.
So let’s not overreact and see how the situation evolves.

- People who like less populated maps: I don’t think this is a good argument for not merging servers. By very definition there are very few people who like low pop servers type play. The vast majority of people want large scale battles. Anet would never be able to balance for low pop style and I don’t think they should try.
- Queues: Yes massive queues are a problem. Perhaps Anet needs to adjust the way they merged servers. They stated that they can even merge multiple servers. If, and that’s a big if, the queues stay this way, I hope they don’t wait 3 months to make adjustments. I was actually hoping they’d do shorter matches in the beginning.
- Queues part 2: Ironically, queues are actually a good thing. They are the only way to guarantee balanced battles. If only one server has queues then the other two are at a disadvantage.
- "Night"capping: This is still going to be a problem. And if it is a big enough problem then I think you will see the queues during prime time take care of themselves. I think that coverage issues are on of the top 3 things that killed WvW. You already see posts about “great even battles at reset, we were within 1500 score. But then I wake up and we’re down by 15,000”. Time sliced matches or dynamic map adjustment must happen for the interest in WvW to be maintained.
I see what you did there. Seriously though, guys give it some time. Its weekend, its new give it a month to settle. I am sure things will calm down. And remember its a beta test. I think the word beta can not be stressed enough. There is a time and place for torches and pitchforks. But I do not think its 1-18 hours after something every one wants to give a try was released. Every one and their dog wants to check it. Lets wait a wee bit more.

Low pops could have been turned into Mid Pops by linking lows to low or lows to mid and leaving the top tier high pops out of it completely.

I don’t even mind the queues, but coming from a low pop server with low pop tactics, entering into a world of BLOB vs BLOB steamrolls is just insane. Anybody who wanted that type of WvW warfare transferred off long ago to larger pop servers.

I understand about how queues (if on all sides) means player balance in WvW, but again this is not what the people who stayed on low pop servers asked for. Ocassional queues on reset and weekends are understandable. But again, my main concern for the Link choices Anet made are the loss of identity for the lower pop server guilds. We don’t want to be absorbed. Also, winning through being carried does not instill a sense of pride for a guild or server. May as well sit back, PVE then throw a big party for ourselves each time we win and blame the other server for when we don’t. (Extreme example)

Yeah, got nothing for this. There is no way to balance pops correctly for 24/7 coverage without merging US/EU somehow.

I think that in order to have any type of decent play for the rest of the week there must be big queues on reset. Because reset is when everyone wants to play; if there are no queues on reset then the rest of the week is going to be weak.

You don’t get it, do you? Tier 1 NA got the least amount of additional players. A relatively insignificant number added to their queues. These map queues are not coming from the server merge. These map queues are coming from the hyped reset night, and the vast majority of those queueing players were already on your servers.
Every server in the game had map queues last night.
It will pass, and it will do so primarily because a large amount of the people who came in last night will not (and would not, under any circumstance) play WvW long-term and frequently.

ANET has two options:
1. Find a way to increase the map cap without impacting performance
2. Don’t pair a server if it has queues on its own.
A bit surprised they did not do it as it was in EU. None of the top servers got linked, since they are already overcrowded as hell compared to the lower top tier even. So the servers that got linked with low pop servers was not really suffereing much. The ques did not come from the linking, but from the fact that the patch brought people back and reset is always knows for a lot of personal gain in terms of lootbags and ranks, and now also reward tracks. In a few weeks this will have settled and we can see how it turns out for real. But yeah, i don’t really see the reason to link the top servers in NA, they do already have enough players.
Clearly the give it time folks haven’t dealt with Qs every weekend and had your guild split up all over the place and can’t play with your friends. It sucks and while the wait and see approach may be the right way what about those who will just not play under those circumstances? This IS a problem and yes it will calm down meaning people who are trying WvW out or coming back have no reason to stay and it will end up worse off than before. So while I understand the points made here I have to disagree with the general attitude of Qs are good because BvB is not what I got into this game for.

IF players only have an hour or two to play the game and during that time every map in the match is Queued the entire time, when do they get to play WvW?
If a player buys the game just to play WvW and they make it so they cannot play WvW every time they log in, I would think they should be irritated and let the developers know. These Queues are making it so some players cannot play WvW at all anymore. They are not solving the queue issue by mergings servers, nor does that solve the coverage issues since some servers still have coverage outside of NA prime and others do now so that just makes it worse.
They can easily solve the queue issue and the “coverage wars” by putting more maps in play during busy hours and reducing that number during off hours so you only have enough maps available to accommodate the population of the servers in the match. that solves both issues at once and is a long term solution rather than just make monstrous queues and make the game unplayable for the people trying to play it.
And where is the difference to EU again? You describing a general problem which can be fixed by using the overflow map like it was intended.
An overflow map is not the solution when that map is not even the same game they are trying to play, nor does it impact the score. IF the overflow map allowed them to actually play the game they logged in to play and contributed to the score you would have a point, but they didn’t do that so all that you are saying is they get to log in to play a different game they have no desire to play because the dev’s screwed up the system used to play the game they paid for.
Playing Eotm isn’t what many players bought the game for. When the players filled out the surveys they used to make this game and asked for large scale PvP and were promised WvW, they expected to get that. If all they do is play WvW and would rather play a different game than GW2 at all than go EotM, it is not working as intended is it? I would think the intention would be to increase players not send their business elsewhere due to not being competent enough to design the mode so players spend their time playing it rather than waiting to play eh?
There are solutions for these issues that keep players in the action, not waiting for it. IF it fails to do that it is considered unplayable to many and needs to be fixed. The primary objective of a large scale PvP game mode is to keep players in nonstop challenging, strategic, fun large scale PvP action the entire time they are logged in, where they can play with their family and friends and have players to play with and against every time they log in. IF the game fails to do that it has failed in their objectives and is far form working as intended. No, that means it is terribly broken instead.
EotM is not WvW, nor is it what players would consider a " consolation prize" for not being able to play the game the paid for.bla bla blubb
Yes.. Apparently thinking it is nuts to expect players to spend their game time in the action rather than waiting to get to it is wrong and they should just sit there and wait if they hate EotM rather than go do something fun elsewhere Mr. Blah blah. LOL
This flaw is making the game unplayable to many and should be corrected if they do not wish to further kill the game mode. You should always want more players to play the game mode for the game to grow, not punish them for doing so.
Empty maps aren’t realy promoting this game mode either.
For many players the reason to play WvW is to whack on other servers blobs, best non-stop.
EotM has a bad reputation because of it’s karma trains and some (or many) players don’t like it’s mechanics and layout. But in it’s core it’s not different to eb or borders.

Hell no, i would not set my foot in EotM even if it was the only wvw map purely because it is HORRIBLY designed for wvw. And overflow maps are beyond stupid in wvw. It works in EotM for the reason that you are not gaining anything nor are you working for your server on a map that have no relevans.
How are overflow maps helping? How do we upgrade, how do we add defense and why the hell would we want to add any upgrades of defense, it is just overflow anyway. It would lead to total brainless wvw that will die out in a few months as it have in any other game adopting this sort of game play.

lol. you really don’t get it. it’s not about the queues. it’s not about server pride (well, for some people it is...but irrelevent to this discussion). it’s about the fact that some people purposely went to a lower tier server to avoid the huge zerg on zerg fights in favor of more small group action. and now they are forced to deal with T1 blobs. ignoring all queues and server pride.. it’s still a playstyle the wanted to get away from, and are now forced to deal with. THAT is what the core problem is with many people. but go on ignoring the problem that people are actually complaining about and keep popping off the smart kitten answers about "oh just wait for the queues to die down you whiners". you sound so smart doing that.

katz, the fact that any one of us hasn’t personally written and acknowledged your specific complaint or viewpoint here is no indication that we haven’t previously engaged it in thought and conversation. We have. We’ve done so for nearly four years now. This is a relatively old subject; especially your take on it.
For you to get what you want, you need to convince ArenaNet to provide a special type of WvW in which the maps are twenty kilometers square and each team is limited to 20 or so players each. I would support you in having that. I disagree with you on trying to shoehorn that onto the one and only WvW leaderboard currently in play, and you forcing your view on anyone who is attached to or influenced by your server and its matches; past, present, and future.
