No this isn’t some dooms day prophecy its just a fact. Wvw is slowing dieing. Look at the game from the beginning, there was a time when tier 5 servers would have 2 r more maps qued every night. Reset had every map q for every server from tier 5 and up. Go into wvw now and I don’t even have a que for the borderland on a tier 1 server at 10pm est. On reset thereight be but not during the week. I understand that people leave as games age but we are talking about. The first year there has been at least a 50% drop in overall wvw play I would guess its more like 60-70% based on what I’ve seen. It’s not like there has been a lot of new games to play either. People are just not playing as much or at al. The combination of ignored suggested and bugs coupled with context that tends to hinder the 30+ hr a week players is quickening the death of what could be a truly amazing game if given the chance to really shine

yeah, lovin it. i wasnt logging in for a few weeks until patch.
The only thing that kills wvw is pve content; since it can’t compete against those. hehe
New content has hurt some groups too. The zergs don’t seem to have gotten much smaller while camp capping groups have lost out on having a esay path across the map. I personally either zerg single/duo roam or camp cap. The later 2 have been hurt.
Could just be our server but the duration of attendance seems really down. We still seem to have the same faces but they just don’t play as long and when they do they tend to ball up for better rewards and few seem to care about points or holding anything.
Might be players taking a wait and see approach to leagues (particularly since we are sitting in the magical 12 slot), recent PvE game changes (Living Story, ascended weapons material gathering) or maybe burn out.

It only stoped zergs because ppl stoped playing
this is history repeating itself – they did the same thing with Hall of Heros in Gw1 – by the time they were done with it, it was a ghost town with a few people on the euro servers demanding rank 12 players. same exact thing – i was really hoping they’d change this ‘play it my way, or no iway’ thinking – iways were fun – but they killed them…the ruins of or – had a fun population in it …they killed it … anything that get’s groups playing together they kill…. it’s a pattern already – not a mistake.

it certainly matches the pattern since gw1 , they want small 8 man groups – the only thing that stayed fun in gw1 – was fort aspenwood – wvw was the closest thing to fort aspenwood where it had that free for all feel. maybe that’s why they are trying to force train everyone to like spvp – because it’s a controlled amount of people . Anything that gets too popular and form large clusters of groups will get trashed.
On a side not. Nice computer specs Ricky
I play on TC and queues are a major issue unless we are being destroyed by a T1 server, so I am not seeing this.

@timi – because it’s still new, but once the leagues set in and the same servers fight the same servers over and over for a whole season, and people get tired of long ques and lag – it will dwindle….. I’m sure of this …again …look at hall of heroes from gw1 – it started the same way – very packed and full …and it kept changing till it died. It didn’t happen overnight – but they stopped fixing it once it was dead.
The only thing killing off WvW are shortsighted stubborn devs.

well, not exactly – anet plays devils advocate but they aren’t the devils – the devils are the people who do mass transfers to the top servers to win, – no different than the guys who demanded rank 12 to play in hall of heroes, eventually normal /casual players couldn’t find a group anymore – same thing on a different scale – normal players wont find a normal server to play wvw anymore – the game itself was fine actually – but the mentality caused clusters of people who just can’t play for fun or have server pride – they “NEED” to win, but this is a good mechanic to kill clusters of people. Naturally you group these players together with leagues and any casual player doesn’t want to play with them anymore – so it dies down.
Even when there are “que problems” they are still better than the old normal ques. Remember 3hr eternal ques for HoD?
@Ricky. It’s not even just that. Part of the reason its so bad is that the overall numbers are so low of players that really know how to play that they have to stack to be able to play with large groups of like minded players. Even 6 months ago you could find some really good groups down in tier 5
I know….I wish anet and the band wagon guilds would see that – just spread out
but no….they want to win at any cost, even if it means ruining the game and unbalancing. I really can’t put all the blame on anet because the game IS in fact fun.
We are talking about the same players that would transfer to another server to grief them.
watch, if you could get all the top tier servers to spread out to other servers – bloodlust would be fun ….but don’t expect that to happen. Anet just set the stage for it to happen, the band wagon guilds didn’t have to take the bait – but they did.

Everyone is too busy playing PVP and has left WVW behind. The esports glory is just to great to pass up, leave WVW to the casuals.

I’m on SoR and for the past two nights have had the outmanned buff on at least one map by 7:30-8:00 pm PST.
And there’s still plenty of zergs out.
This may have finally broke the back of the lower tiers. The top 5-6 servers will see little to no affect.

Basic math would indicate that most of the people playing WvW are in the top 5-6 servers. Pretty sure SoR/BG/JQ at any given moment, individually, have more people on a borderland than the bottom servers have on all maps in a match up combined.

they killed iway, necrobombs, hoh hero builds, Hall of heroes, Orr, skill bars, gvg, next up to die – wvw. it went from rock paper scissors to rock paper tractor

I am not trying to prove a point. The majority of servers house a minority of the overall WvW population. That is a flaw that is ingrained in the system and is next to impossible to fix in any organic fashion and would risk fracturing very large player communities in the hopes of fixing something that may not be fixable.
If they are designing content for the “majority” then, like it or not, that content will be designed around the top tiers.
Moreover, the Bloodlust buff for which the sky has apparently fallen, has and will pretty much exist in all RvR games. It has existed in this game since long before Bloodlust/Orbs were (re)introduced and that buff has not even been removable, it was simply a matter of life and its no small buff either.
