So moving reset to Saturday Night has been a fairly controversial issue. I was wondering, how is the time slot which would have been Friday Night reset compared to before, and how does it compare to Saturday night reset in terms of your own activity as well as the activity you observe on your server?
Personally, my own schedule tends to let me play deeper into Friday night as I would usually be somewhere else late Saturday night, so as a result I end up playing on both nights but not as much as I have in the past. Even if I have a long session, it’d be on Friday anyways.

On my server (Blackgate), Saturday night OCX time (early Saturday morning, few hours before reset) is still quite active for fights, despite most of the activity shifting towards Sunday. Friday and Saturday are both less active than they used to be, while Sunday isn’t a whole lot more active. Overall, less activity over the week than with the Friday night NA reset
Play less now, when reset was on Sat midday Aust time I would sometimes log in in the afternoon soon after reset if I could get past queues and would log in for a long time on Sundays, now I don’t bother beyond guild raids.

Played for one or two resets. One night we had to take our blob into EOTM as WvW was dead, after that most logged off. We are on Desolation and used to pull in a big Q on EB and a small Q on every other borderland, now we usually have a small Q on EB and no other Q.
Friday is still fairly active, but usually only in EB. A shadow of it pre-HoT.
Friday night
Now: exactly what Thursday night used to be: meaningless karma train, except without even the karma train because no one is online (this is the 10-12pm time slot pacific time).
Before: same time slot, sometimes queues (10 people or so) in EB or home BL depending on where the action is, with plenty of people on the other map.
Saturday night
Now: 9-10pm time slot: 20-30 man queues in EB. BLs empty. 10-12pm: either short queues in EB or none (definitely none by 12pm). BLs empty.
Before: Same as friday nights before: 10 or so queues on either EB or home BL, plenty of people on the non-queued map.
This is T4.
Friday evening reset was a more festive occasion. People came home from work, eager to play and/or get hammered and just have fun. Saturday… its just not the same. Fridays feel empty now. Pointless.
I really enjoyed the Friday night fights that lead into the weekend. I no longer feel like reset sets the stage for an awesome weekend of wvw because all of friday and half of saturday is wasted.
What was A-Nets reason for changing the reset?
What was A-Nets reason for changing the reset?
Druids were charging their astral bar too fast on friday.
What was A-Nets reason for changing the reset?
First reason:
Hello All,
There are a couple of reasons for the change to reset time. One is for the overall quality of the game. The last few years we have been careful to not disrupt the WvW reset time but this has at times made it difficult for our team to address issues during reset day. This change will give our team an extra day of the week that they can use to respond to issues that may occur with WvW or any other area of the game if it is necessary. In the early days we wanted reset to be during a weekday to ensure we had people available to monitor the game at reset time, but at this point we have seen the ongoing stability of World vs. World and resetting on a weekday is no longer necessary.
Another reason is the emergent gameplay that has come from reset. It has become one of the most exciting times for WvW and we would really love for more players to have the opportunity to experience it. We have many more players logging in on Saturday than on Friday which means with this change many more people will be available to experience the rush of claiming objectives for their world during reset.
However, given the concerns posted here we will be moving the Saturday reset to earlier in the day to give most players the majority of the day to enjoy the start of the new match. Immediately after launch the new time will be 11am PDT / 2pm EDT (6 pm UTC) for NA and 11am BST / 12 pm CEST (10 am UTC) for EU. Keep in mind that the following week with the end of Daylight Savings Time / Summer Time the reset times will be pushed even earlier to 10am PST/ 1pm EST and 10am GMT / 11am CET.
Thank you for your feedback. We realize that no time we pick is going to work for everyone but this change is going to benefit even more players overall while at the same time giving us a little more breathing room to improve the quality of the game during the week.
Thanks,
John
Then they were reasoning like this:
Hello All,
Launching a game is an enormous undertaking and our teams need time to address any issues that come up. Therefore after launch we must move WvW reset to Saturday. We will keep resets on Saturday to address issues and once we are in the clear we will evaluate the best time for WvW reset both for us as a company as well as for our players.
Since it is clear that we cannot pick a time that will work for everyone, we will be maintaining our original plan of shifting reset by 24 hours, to Saturday evening. That time was based on data for when prime time occurs in each region.
Thank you,
John
After a few round of rage, Gaile said the final word as “We don’t care about WvW as long as PvE/eSportz are fine” in their dialect:
At this time, we’re not currently asking for a vote. If we want a vote in the future, we’ll definitely let everyone know. Hey, it could happen, but it isn’t going on right now. (Just to be clear because some are not sure if we’re involved in one.)
I think I said it pretty clearly, but due to repeated questions, I’ll say it again: The reset change initially was set for Saturday evening. There were an initial spate of comments along the lines of “We don’t like Saturday evening, so make it Saturday morning,” and the devs tried to accommodate those requests. Then, as it became clear that the majority of those expressing an opinion in this thread made it clear — between the two currently available options — that Saturday evening was preferable, that’s what the devs went with.
This isn’t a “take your choice from a multitude of options” for reasons that were made abundantly clear in the dev posts in this thread. At the present time, in order to properly manage the game (the whole game, not any single element), in order to properly focus on launch of the expansion pack, and in order to take into account other reasonable considerations, WvW reset will take place on Saturdays. It will take place on Saturday evening to accommodate the requests of the majority of those expressing an opinion here in this thread.
Thank you for getting all that information.
I must admit it hasnt been as bad as i initially thought it would be. But having said that friday while not dead, still is NOTwhat it was. And Saturday while busy is still about the same as it was before. So we ended up with less activity of friday and about the same as it was on Saturday already. At best slightly more on Saturday.
I am basing this on T3 as i just moved recently.
Friday nights are “don’t care” nights now. I agree the “festive” atmosphere of getting off work/school and settling into a weekend of gaming fun is gone.
Additionally, the glicko rating gain/loss of many servers used to be based upon the “padding” provided by the first 2-3 days of a match since Fri-Sat-Sun is when most people put effort into a match. Now it is down to only 1-2 days: Sat-Sun
Bad move changing reset nights from a NA perspective. YB used to have queues so bad I didn’t bother. This last weekend there was barely 1 que.
Aside from the sad state of affairs in wvw, Friday offered little in tv fare if you didn’t go out. Saturday, in the fall, often offers up some of the biggest ncaa football games. If my choice is football of gw2, football wins. I know not everyone is in the us or even a fan, but football is huge…..

The attitude shift in my guild is noticeable. We used to make a strong attempt to make reset even though it is a much early raid start time.
Saturday, I was farming DryTop when the reset actually occurred and when normal raid time started, checked to see if enough were on to bother starting a raid.
Reset night is just another optional raid night.
Our actual raid days don’t include Saturday.
As I said in previous threads: since there is no reason to care about ppt I think saturday is a good temporary change. While k-training people run all over the map, getting used to it’s structure, maybe have some fights and once the “massive overhaul” arrives and ppt matters one day they can change it back and maybe some of those k-trainers will remember having fun on the borders and may join some serious fights in the future.

Agreed. I have made one reset since the change, and there was no queue, even on EB, for quite awhile. Silly, unnecessary changes are killing this game for me.

/thread
I used to turn up for Friday night resets very regularly. It was a great occasion to clash, rush out some upgrades, and build defensive siege.
Even when our match was hopeless for the week, we could defend our north camp, north towers, and Garrison. Yak-walking helped us get walls and gates on Garrison (or sometimes cannons first for a WP rush) and upgrading north towers was crucial to the week.
Small group raids into southern camps, or yak-sassination missions let us stall out upgrades in enemy-held objectives.
We would log on for a bit in the afternoon and get everybody a +5 supply buff (for a total of 20 supply on my characters) and wait in TS for the match to reset and spam to all join the map we had agreed on. We’d get Hero Banners, food, and siege in inventory and play until 2 or 3 AM. Saturday. After a bit of sleep, I’d get up, check scores on my phone and log in a bit with my morning coffee to push our PPT (fixing up the home borderland or denying some camps to the enemy).
Since HoT, I haven’t touched WvW on Fridays unless it’s to complete an easy daily like Big Spender. The unavailability of a +5 supply buff and overall lower participation has removed the need for any prep-work.
Keeps, camps, and towers upgrade themselves, so there’s no need for me to check up on friendly objectives and no point to resetting upgrades on enemy objectives.
I think my guild technically has a reset-night WvW event on Saturday, but I’ve mostly been catching up on housework and Netflix instead.

How is the time slot which would have been Friday Night reset compared to before, and how does it compare to Saturday night reset in terms of your own activity as well as the activity you observe on your server?
Friday night reset was a huge event for our guild (and server, for that matter). It kicked off the weekend, and it was one of the few times a week we had the majority of our players online. Now, it seems that the weekend has been stymied by the move to resets on Saturday. Also, for our OCX population, a Saturday reset has meant that they only have one day to participate in WvW (NA Saturday night = Australian/Singaporean Sunday morning) before they have to start their week and go back to work. This has significantly reduced our population for WvW reset and has made playing WvW on Friday nights (NA time) fairly pointless, as the matches are usually decided by that point. Thus, Friday nights have languished in inactivity and the definitive pace that our weekly schedule had feels awkward now.
Friday night is awful now, and WvW is significantly less enjoyable because of this change.
So moving reset to Saturday Night has been a fairly controversial issue. I was wondering, how is the time slot which would have been Friday Night reset compared to before, and how does it compare to Saturday night reset in terms of your own activity as well as the activity you observe on your server?
With the Friday reset I would plan to be on for each reset so long as I was not at work. (It also allowed me to play overnight Friday night, and all day Saturday/Sunday.)
With the reset now being Saturdays, even though I do not have to work, I haven’t went to 1 at all. I don’t bother with it on Saturday due to having other things I go do, and since I have to be up early Sunday I can’t stay up late and enjoy some good wvw time.
Server wise:
Prior to HoT when Friday was reset we had tons of guilds which would queue for.
After HoT with the Saturday reset maybe half of the guilds queue for reset, that there used to be.
Friday’s used to be nights where everyone planned to get off from work, grab something to drink/eat, and hang out playing WvW while on voice comms hanging out with friends. Saturdays less seem to be doing that, as half their weekend is gone already. (Not to mention most avoid the new borderland maps compared to the old ones.)
I used to be able to make reset night every once in a while on Friday night. Always a guaranteed fight for hours. I loved it when I could make it.
Now that Friday night doesn’t matter unless the match is really close, I don’t log in at all on Friday night.
I’m not able to play Saturday. So, that exciting guaranteed fight time has been taken away from me completely.
Edit: I’m an NA player; Friday’s are paydays. So basically, Anet, you’ve guaranteed you’ll get no more gems outta me because now I don’t play payday or weekends. GG

Friday.. Saturday… Still sad to see this is being fixated on.
Any time you want to play should be the goal here.
At least PvP has that going for it. Just wish it wasn’t those lame 5v5 matches.

You dont work normal hours or something? Friday isnt just “any time”. Its never been, its nothing unique to GW2. Its impossible not to fixate on it in real life.
If you dont even care or is in favor of Saturday reset then it doesnt really matter to the discussion on reset time. I’m certain there are plenty of people that are happy either way, but for the rest its a black and white topic. The only grey area is Anet not caring about anyone and giving us the silent treatment. I’ve seen better interaction from brick walls.
10pm pacific time Friday Dec, 11: the difference between first and third place was 6000 points. We were in 2nd place. Fewer than 10 of us (our main force LOL) PvD’d two towers in one of the server’s BL. One tower was fully upgraded. The other was fully T2.
Pretty sad.
