I’m all for the reset, but I don’t think ALL the servers should have been reset to equal ratings.

Some servers in the lower tiers are going to KILL their opponents, granting them TONS of points, thus moving them up to tier 1 from tier 7.

Tier 1 servers have to work hard for points against the top notch servers and they will won’t even be able to maintain their high rating.

I think the Tiers should have gotten different rating resets…

For example:
Tier 1: 1500
Tier 2: 1400
Tier 3: 1300

etc… (Obviously its not a perfect suggestion, but it’s not fair to the servers that are already up top and will have to spend the next 2 months earning all their points back/having BORING WvW matchups.)

The way the system is now, say JQ wins tier 1, they might go to Tier 4, SoR comes in 2nd they might go to Tier 5, and SoS might go to Tier 6.

The winning servers from Tier 4,5, and 6 might destroy their lower ranked oppenents and move straight to tier 1.

Do you understand what I’m saying? This needs to be fixed.

I agree doesn’t make sense to reset the ratings like how they’re doing.

I don’t understand why you think if JQ won tier 1 they might suddenly drop to Tier 4. Please explain what you mean. How would that be possible?

because beating JQ is worth the same amount of glicko ratings as beating ET since all servers reset, thus the server that crushes ET by 400k points can possibly overtake JQ after beating the other tier 1 servers by 10k

Wasn’t it bad matchups that caused the problem they are trying to fix?

How is creating more bad matchups going to yield a better end result?

(Note: this is predicated on the system as it worked before today. There may have been changes along with the reset that invalidate these concerns)

The idea of “tiers” isn’t really build into the system that handles ranking servers. The reality is that each server has a rating. When you win, it goes up. When you lose, it goes down. How much it goes up or down by depends on your previous score, your opponents previous rating, and the scores of all three servers that week. Servers are matched up based on ratings. We call the top three servers (which end up in a match together) tier one, but the base system doesn’t require that the top 3 servers are always put together.

Normally things are fairly stable. Your rating usually doesn’t change much, and there’s enough space between ratings that you can sometimes lose badly without dropping to a lower tier.

But this week, after the matchup was determined based on the previous week’s result, all the server ratings are set 1500. Since the idea of ‘tiers’ aren’t built into the rating system, winning the T1 match won’t give you a higher rating then winning the T8 match. What will give you a higher rating is a blowout. Whoever wins by the largest margin among all the matches will be the first place server. They’ll face the second and third largest winners.

There’s a certain amount of leeway based on margins, but a good place to start from would be to assume places 1-8 will be the winners of each matchup this week, ranked based on how much they won by. Places 9-16 will be the second place winners, and 17-24 the losers. Assuming T1 is the closest match, I’d expect the winner to end up in 8th, the second place in 12-13th, and the loser in 17th.

But yea, barring some miracle (or a change to the way scores, tiers, or matchups work) this is the end of JQ’s T1 streak regardless of our placing this week.

It is going to suck for the servers to shuffle so much again. I felt like it was at a much better place now.

As a Yak’s Bend player, I don’t want to end up in Tier 1 just to get zerged back down to Tier 4.

If you think the NA is bad look at EU, a t7 and t8 server will be t1 next week

That isn’t how the WvW system was built at all. If you can control a large point advantage, you control a large amount of the maps. If you control a large amount of the maps, you have a large amount of fortified positions. WvW in this game is like a landslide. Once a team starts winning it is relatively easy for them to completely dominate their opponents.

we can say the first gw2 wvw season is end and it’s a new one!

now we need to wait ~ 4 week to have correct wvw rank
(or anet need to do the same at the begin, rotating every 1/2 day the first week to get fast adjustment)

The rankings are all messed up anyways, with our without a reset. With all the server transfers some strong servers have been weaken and some weaker servers are now stronger. ANET also said the math behind how the rankings work is changing. So until ANET reveals the new math we really can’t come to a conclusion.

Gah, 2 weeks of facing crushing machines and now the good chance of another 4 weeks worth. Gonna lose a lot of people that loved WvW.

It wasn’t perfect, but it has gotten us to halfway decent match ups for this week. Next week Emery Bay is #1, and it is quite possible that not a single server that should be in T1 or T2 will actually be in T1 or T2. Its going to be a painful month for WvW players.

Oh dear if this keeps up there are going to be some awful matchups for weeks. T1 T2 servers in t8 how many dead matches are there going to be. We need 1 or 2 day games for 2 weeks to sort this out fast

It’s gonna be more funny than disastrous. I’m looking forward to it.

It’s sad because tier 1 is such a fair matchup and we are having great fights.
