I commonly end up with 20+ stacks just skirmishing by sm. It’s a little over the top and stops some fights cold. Perma treb poison and swimming in ac/cat spam is bad enough
Don’t stand in the fire
Is very easy to say before you realize it’s a kittening methanol fire.

Yeah, siege is kittened. It’s all we ever fight in t3. I’m pveing for APs now out of sheer boredom.
don’t fight in the line of fire? I’m not sure what you all are doing…just move…
Seriously…. make a video of some1 of value dying from 100% hp to a incendiary shot or it didn’t happen, especially when you got 1 or more allies in the area that can rez.

This is usually exactly what happens. People just go somewhere else or start a siege war.

It’s not much different in T2 with JQ massive blobs. T2 is getting boring as well.
Really?
It takes about 10 kittening minutes to turn the mortar, it’s not like it’s hard to move out of the fire.
If you are fighting in a tower kill the players on the mortar and destroy it.
And why would you cleanse the first stack without moving out of the fire?
Smh….

To be honest I think an accurate red circle around the fire would solve most issues, dropping the stacks to 2 if it really does stay a problem. Seen some 4K burn ticks when I mortar ogrewatch from the keep and the enemy blob just sits there.
The thing people have to remember is that the mortar is slow to turn and fairly slow firing and before the buff, incendiary shot people largely ignored and could cleanse/outheal it trivially.
I liked the pain absorption picture btw, you see some pretty crazy condition stacks with that in WvW not just with burn. Fortunately they all usually run out before resistance runs out.
It takes forever to turn, can’t hit anything near it besides the barrage skill which has a long enough cooldown, and can’t be placed anywhere since it has specific spawn areas which can be hit with aoe skills.
It is finally somewhat useful, especially when you are being attacked by oversized blobs (thanks to linking).
Nerfing it would make it useless.
If you get hit by just the initial landing of the mortar’s fire shot it can straight down people with squishier builds. It certainly needs a nerf, because that spam of fire ticks is absolutely ridiculous when fighting something else.
“It’s time to Rim Ram their Jim Jams.”
Red circle would probably help a lot.
Edit: 123 stacks wth lol

screenshot clearly shows resistance is broken
Is it possible tht condi duration is still effecting this somehow? Really shouldn’t be able to stack as high as it does.

They changed it, as far as I know it doesn’t affect it anymore otherwise you’d see people complaining more as you’d get instantly downed (well nearly) by people with 2000 condition damage.

We will be adding a red circle to the incendiary mortar skill to better display the area that burning is applied.

That’s it? You guys really think being able to hit up to 50 people every couple of seconds and get up to 40 stacks of burning near instantly on a target from range is a good change? Many of us have been complaining for years about how ridiculously unbalanced siege damage is and you do something incredibly mind boggling like this.
Honesty is not insulting, stupidity is.

Nerfing the mortar fire means that it will become another semi useless siege like cannons and oil. Besides, with all the resistance spam meta, zergs should be pretty fine as it is shown on the screenshot where you have a rev with 123 stacks of burn but he won’t die at all.

Getting an instant 40 stacks of burning is not balanced, especially from something that can be fired from over 9000 range and hit 50 people. One screenshot changes nothing. And for all the people complaining about boonshare being to strong, well you know who to blame, for making these idiotic changes and paving the way for making stuff like boonshare almost a necessity.

Game is a disaster, complete mess.

This sounds like a great fix. I play on the lowest quality — not sure if that makes a difference, but I would always get annoyed with burning stacks from mortar shots that I could not visibly detect on the ground.
The burn stacks are not the problem and are not overpowered (in my opinion); the problem was always not being able to see where you can stand. Thanks for this info, can’t wait to see how it plays out in-game.

It had a red circle before though… So what happened to it?
And the amount of burn it can do, and it’s apparent radius, is ridiculous. But that’s a different issue
Also there are other things not displaying circles, I didn’t write down examples, nor do I have patience to figure them out at the moment. I’ll be more than happy to keep bug reporting each and every one as they come up, and other things, provided they sometimes do get corrected.
One I can recall though, is cow treb is one, it’s a poison field. Enemy is indeed displaying a red circle, but friendly has no circle.
The red circle will really help. At the very least it will warn people on lower settings. Won’t do much for those in bigger fights though…where aoe and bodies are everywhere.
I hope that it isn’t nerfed into oblivion. Mortars/cannons/oilpots have such a hard time actually being useful that being able to toast people with incendiary shells is actually nice.
So that’s part of the reason we get so much lag on EB, all the extra calculations of stacks of conditions and boons, but I think this needs toning down not rendered to something of no usefulness.
Even Chilling Fog, doesn’t last very long at all anymore, it all depends if something like T2/3 SM is bunkered in with siege, can be useful if defending a keep outnumbered though.

Chilling fog gets used very badly by defenders now.

The field duration is probably the root of the problem. It lets you obliterate a large area to the point where people are catching an instant 15 to 20 stacks per tick. Add the lack of visibility on lower settings and squishies are going up in smoke instantly and they don’t know why.
It’s even funnier when u play a rev and pop demon stance condi vacuum skill and suck all the condi burn on all the allies around you onto yourself and realize u just fudged yourself.

I sometimes cry when I’m on my Guardian and I pop Save Yourselves!.… sigh. And then my allies just get condi bombed anyway and soon thereafter die.

Can you come and train our newbies?

It’s easy. Just show them. Turn the mortar, for example into lords garri, and show them where it hits.
Turn the one on NE garri wall inward and show them it hits NW gate.
Seeing is believing
As for EB: Show them how each mortar hits at the keeps — every single one of them can be turned to use in multiple ways. Best ones are in the towers tho
Why u ever gave them 3 stacks ill never know. A single tower can have upto 4 mortars firing within it, ive been in fights within a tower for extended periods and the whole time had no less than 15 stacks of burning on me while moving around the whole tower. rev uses pain absorption and gets 80odd stacks of burning. do u rly think this was a wise move on your part, anet? Yeah add the red ring effect, its needed and been something spoke about since day one anyway but srsly you need to drop the stacks back down, its rkitten. that and now you release poll for siege hammers @ a time when you know a load of siege hungry newbies are playing, trying to get there gift of battle. i sware you guys either know what youre trying to do and dont like the style of play that a lot of players enjoy or you just dont have a kitten clue whats enjoyable in WvW. Well… Suppose they don’t play so much WvW (which is clearly doubtful), and they mostly read forums to get feedback. What do they honestly read ?
- Lots of complains, not so many things positive ;
- Ppl who like to roam are gankers and mostly play noob metas that should be nerfed as fast as possible ;
- Ppl who scout or defend are siege huggers and must be discouraged ;
- The overwhelming majority of players are taking part in blobs, zerging and spamming 11111 which should be strongly discouraged ;
- Some self-proclaimed veterans have very accurate ideas about how tings should be : mainly what it was 2,5 years ago when the hype was still big, and friends were around.
And you actually wonder why they “don’t like the style of play that a lot of players enjoy” ?

So instead of clearing the siege you continued to 1 spam in the Lord’s room….. and this is your argument for nerfing mortars?
Mortars are extremely balanced at the moment. They are slow to turn, have pretty big areas that they can’t hit (with the exception of concussion barrage on a 20 sec cooldown), but are actually useful when they do hit.
If you could flat out ignore mortars they would be pointless.
If you die to a mortar you are bad and you should feel bad. Outside of a tower all you have to do is move, they can’t chase you. Inside a tower you need to start using your brain and clearing siege as soon as you break in.
LGN
You don’t get an “instant 40 stacks” of burning. You get 3. Stop standing in them.
Again the hyperbole. I do not understand how people can make an arguement regarding balance and just make numbers up. I have never taken an instant 40 stacks of burning from a mortar. Just move when it hits and get out of the field. Given it usually only the burning condition it relatively easy to cleanse after that.
I have been in groups that built a ballista on a wall and taken out a Mortar faster then that Mortar could be turned in our direction to take out that ballista.
Mortar fire is great for breaking up blobs and causing them to scatter. It highly limited in use because it so slow to turn and track moving targets and is vulnerable when an enemy gets close. If a person just wants to stand in a field under Mortar fire taking on stack after stack of burning , it a learn to play issue just as standing there under a meteor shower is.

No tower can have 4 Mortars firing into the lords room. A Tower is limited to one Mortar and it usually placed where the Lords room too close to focus fire on. In EBG some towers can have the nearby keep fire into the lords room but those limited . A few meteor showers dropped on these Mortars beforehand is an easy enough task.

The fields pile up because of the field duration. It’s ok for it to hurt and even down people but it’s a bit crazy atm. I used it yesterday to hit an attacking blob. I was getting almost 5k burn ticks. All those eles popping water attunement was kind of funny.
If you’re impressed with 5k burn ticks you certainly never played burn guardian…

lol running into a bunch since a certain hydra discovered cheesy condi builds. Watching a blob go up in flames in more fun though.

Maybe get some better gear and redo your builds a bit? Maybe don’t stand in aoe damage spots and use some dodge rolls?

Have to agree. I have no sympathy for blobs that stand where they are being killed by mortar fire. Either get under it, out of range of it, or start boonsharing resistance. This is not an exclusive open field combat simulator, in spite of what some groups want. There are structures, and you will always be dealing with siege.

The mortar in the ebg keep can hit right into the tower next to it. Durris if I’m not wrong. Any place in the tower in fact. Please explain how you intend to get out of the tower while capturing it
