This question is meant for the developers, so please let them answer it.

We all know the commander title costs 100 gold at the moment, but there are several posts that are asking for a new way to get the title.
I also read a post that you are working on a new ranking system within WvW.

My question is, is the commander title affected by this new ranking system?
If i would buy a commander title now, would I be wasting 100 gold?

If they will make Commander title easier to get, i will see 20 commanders per map instead of 6…
that would be awsome…. not

I’m not talking about the difficulty here. Im asking if the way to obtain it will be different than gold.

Not a straight answer to the question since I’m not a developer from ANet (hard for me to answer the question as one then).

Hopefully they will make significant changes to how the commander works. Right now having a squad gives little benefits, and being a commander basically only gives you a blue dot over your head.

Suggested changes / improvements:

• Give Commanders a Squad UI, even if it is windowed, so you can see it sometimes only. Choose to display only to Guild Members?
• Auto-join to Squads, allowing Commanders to choose if it should be “Guild members only/everyone” (or some other parameters). Alternatively have it radius based, for checking supply.
• Make it easier to join a Squad. Most people do not know they need to click the commander. Popup when joining the BG saying “These commanders are on the field, which commander would you like to follow”
• Max 3 Visible Commanders / map, Dependent on Squad size. Could still allow guilds to use the Commander for smaller runs, but not interrupt other bigger squads with yet another commander mark.

How many of you even know that a commander can set marks on the map for where to attack next?!

I knew about the marks (defensive, offensive, waypoints), but I elect not to use them at the moment.

From what I’ve read throughout the various topics answered about the “ranks” that are eventually being looked at for adding, they will not be an effective “rank” like the commander’s compendium book and the added icon to one’s halo. Of course there were mentions of an actual reward system too (maybe to replace the orbs or whatever).

I would certainly hope that either way, an individual who spends 100g to get the icon and status wouldn’t be shafted by an unwittingly dumbed down version of a way to get said icon and “title” through lesser means. A person can grind out like 10g a day with just all three types of nodes in a couple zones (so effectively 10 days to get the book). But for a person to get it through badges (as some have suggested) you’d have to have oodles of them for it to be a “fair” system. I’ve no problem with the idea of people being able to buy the book in other ways, but I would have a problem with those that worked for their 100g to get said book to be outdone by a new system that makes those books worth the equivalent of 5g.

I’m hoping for a fair system where the commander title can be obtained using WvW currency like badges, but I don’t want the existing commanders to be punished for that..

I myself would like to buy the commander title, because I think I can be of use in WvW. I only never PvE and that’s why I don’t have 100 gold. Yes I could farm for days, but I like to play WvW instead.

I would love to see different colors for commander titles, that way if they chose to break up into teams that way it could easily be said “blue team, go this way. red team that way, purple team hold defense, and yellow team seige up”

Would make it easier than seeing 6-7 all blue icons. (Just my own little opinion anyways)

I actually like that idea.

Thanks Marty! Anything to help the non commanders be part of a team and work better together. Nothing more confusing then seeing one blue dot on one side of the map and and a different one on the other, but being told “Get to the commander”

So many possibilities that can be used to help out all players, that I hope Anet takes into consideration. =)

Give me an option to turn those damn icons off in pve. So annoying to see nothing but blue markers running around on my map.

Eventually, inflation will make the title cheaper to obtain (relatively speaking, in gem terms). This is already a material reality as the gem cost of gold has “halved” in the past three months — in part due to special events, holiday escalation and the evacuation of the initial release population.

But inflation is a reality that will continue as more and better things are introduced into the economy. The real question is… will “command” sinks be added to the top end to continue raising the bar or broaden the top end?

We patiently await news on command embellishments to pins such as colors and addon features.

I would have had my Commander title if I could have bought it for 1million karma sooner than I ended up getting it.

Fair enough I get it through a guild votation and not by saving my own money.
