It’s really starting to get on my nerves that the only class that has to finish the jumping puzzle anymore is a Mesmer and then they dominate the chest and nobody else can finish because the previous areas just need a Mesmer to knock you off or pull you off with spells that don’t need LoS.

I agree that competition should exist there and people should fight and there should be roadblocks, but I don’t like that whoever has the Mesmer at the end auto wins the area because they can get a bunch of people up instantly and have insane ways to make you start over…

Portals I’m okay with, mostly.

Temporal Curtain can pull you off and you have no idea that it was even cast (for a counter), I’m not okay with. I have stability skills, but I don’t know to use it when a Mesmer can cast at on the cliff below me, out of line of sight, and pull me off.

But let’s be clear about one thing: While temporal Temporal Curtain is nice, it is neither the only nor the greatest (read best) “knocker downer” available to defend JP.

  • Necros can be devastating in JP
  • Warriors can make your life a living hell in JP
  • Hunters and Thieves both have exceptional “keep Copain away from the chest” abilities.

And that’s just a sample.

Please, please… think, make friends, and don’t sweat the small stuff.

Honestly at least for the WvW jumping puzzles I think portals should be deactivated within the area. They aren’t even jumping puzzles anymore. One person runs through the EB puzzle and dozens get teleported.

You should have to actually DO the puzzle to get the reward. Skipping the entire puzzle and just opening a chest is silly, in my view.

Except none of those can pull without out Line of Sight (meaning you’re not even safe in areas you should actually be safe in. SUCH AS THE VERY ENTRANCE THAT PUTS YOU HIGH UP WITH LOS), create clones of themselves to keep you in battle, allow their allies to do literally whatever they want to you because they can just port them back, and so on.

Anyone can make the jumping puzzle a pain. Nobody does it as well as the Mesmer. Your team can have ran the entire Jumping puzzle, but if one Mesmer gets to the end area, you literally lose any control of the chest you coulda had. Which isn’t hard considering the plethra of stealth moves they have.

Obvious solution to this would be to make it so Mesmers can’t set foot in the JP.

Temporal curtain does need loS. You can’t yank someone around a corner with it for example.

No it doesn’t. Try it sometime. Just to be sure, I’m going to double check it….

K, so I double checked and it appears to be iffy on the LoS restriction. So it will pull you sometimes and it won’t other times.

If they are in range it does. Which is why a Mesmer can pull you on a wall despite you standing at the back where no, say scorpion wire can pull you Edit: You dont even need the curtain to fold over the edge of the wall.. So long as your in range of the curtain (900?) it can pull you despite objects in the way.

Yeah, I was wrong about it never working. That said, it’s not a big deal. Just avoid ledges and stealth your way to the top.

I just wish ArenaNet would remove the jumping puzzles from WvW all together. It gets really tiring to watch the message “is there a Mesmer in JP” pop up every 30 min when playing, and it’s ridiculous to spend time trying to balance professions in the JP, when anyone in there don’t offer any assistance to the overall fight anyway.

The WvW JP does give siege and badges that can be used on siege. But most are carebears or zerglets working on their legendary.

But from this post I can bet a few mesmers will be annoyed enough to do some griefing.

You’re using literally wrong.

And both are false, even if you mean it figuratively. Mesmer portal lasts for a very short time, just CC around the portal so his allies can’t get into the portal before hand. Second, since obviously you dont need LOS to pull them down, bring a friggin mesmer of your own.

As for control of the chest once the mesmer gets to the top…uh…stop the mesmer? Like, you know, kill him or something.

The ONLY reason the jumping puzzles are easily finished with a mesmer helper is because the way that they were designed. They’re some of the only JP’s in the game where a mesmer can easily get people to the final part. And personally, as a mesmer, I would be ok with disabling portals in JP’s, even though I really only use them for check pointing.

As for the temporal curtain part…that’s just laughable. Many CC’s you cant see. It’s no differnt than another class standing at the top of a ledge and using melee knockbacks. So, I think you’re frustrated, but remember, in the WvW jumping puzzles, you rarely die if you get knocked down. In the BL ones you basically just fall into the water unless you’re in a reallybad spot, and I cant think of anywhere in the EB one where you can get pulled off where you would fall far enough to die…

if im not much mistaken there is one spot where you can fall to your death, the pillers just after you get up the well and the only way the memser can get there and do it unseen is useing the 5min invis else its not possble(not sure if you fall very unlucky down the well if you not also die then)

I’m doing a mental checklist of most JP’s in this game….the vast majority are easily accessible via Mesmer portals. Which ones are you thinking about?

Back on topic:

Can anyone think of a legitimate reason why portals SHOULDN"T be disabled in a JP? Why should you be rewarded with a chest for not completing the puzzle? The chest is a reward for the puzzle, not for your ability to press “f” on the purple circle.
