The pvp crusade of a support.
No
Support/Healing builds get less loot, less exp, and less karma.

Bang on the money. Since support roles weren’t supposed to exist in this game, they don’t get squat for it. If I’m with a group and we aren’t going for something important, a keep/tower or such, I’ll just use tome of courage as my own personal panic button, because no matter how many times I save my teammates butts, don’t get jack crap for it.
Thats exaggerating a tad, if I notice 3-4 people low on health around me I will pull it out and hit LoD, but it has been serving more as my own panic button then a support skill like it’s intended to be.
The only sort of support you get rewarded for is (a) your support skills directly cause damage (projectile reflection from Feedback, for example) or (b) the support just barely made the difference between you winning and losing, since you would get nothing for losing.
Doing support is certainly going to help your server win more battles, and win them more decisively. There’s no doubt about that. But you won’t be rewarded for it, so it comes down to this: does the fun of playing a support spec outweigh the rewards you get from playing a damage spec?
-Look, look with your special eyes!
-My Dragonbrand!
Woah! Now that sucks =/ . I’ve seen so many trailers and dev diaries with them talking about how much teamplay and tactics there is in this game, but all I see is groups of ranged people running around and blasting everything away in a second. That is really disappointing. Maybe it’s not my game afterall =/. Maybe it’s not the best comparison but battlefield 3 game (yea I know) rewards you greatly for being a support. For every heal, revive, suppression etc. you get plenty of points. Should be same here to encourage team play.
First…. gonna have to re train your brain on the idea of “getting behind”. That’s a traditional mindset that countless players are having a hard time getting around. Guardians are indispensable for support type roles especially if your having to defend and hold a choke point. Being at the front ..or even the back … or not being there can be the difference between success and failure. Like they depend on you, you will also depend on them.
Second…. It’s WvWvW…not BG’s ….. what you did helped your server more then you think it did. In Wv that’s more important then anything. A lot of people putting in effort for bigger goals.
Lastly…. expanding on the first point. Try to break all your original playing habits. This is not like the many or few MMORPG’s you’ve played before. There is no BEST build…. some seem more synergetic, but if it isn’t your play style for that build…guess what…its not the best. You will be at a slight disadvantage in lower levels due to gear stats… ANet tries to help with up leveling you when you get in. However until you get the lvl 80 gear. Your just gonna have to be a bit more tactical. Once there though, your pretty much on equal footing whats left is your choice in gear, traits, sigils etc. and more importantly tactics and understanding how to counter each class will be the difference.
Don’t stress about it.
It’s about fun and competition. Play, learn, have fun and don’t be scared to re do your build to see what works. Re traiting is relatively inexpensive.

Thanks nightmunch!
That’s exactly how I love to play and this is why I chose to be a support. Just wish someday I can somehow earn points to get those neat PvP rewards! I still think Anet should make heals and supportive skills earn you points, just like when you do dmg.
They will come. Granted maybe not in abundance… and not sure what PvP rewards your really looking forward to …. for gear and weps you can choose to get it through Karma which easily is obtained through Wv and PvE. More easily in PvE though.
If you haven’t already done it. Try and get into a WvW focused guild. Good ones like the one I am in will be able to show you a deeper side to WvW then you would normally think.
As far as looks… almost anything can be “re skinned” to look like something you have seen before as long as you have it. Better stats of your choosing may be on a not so cool looking wepon…..but that other cooler looking weapon with not so good stats can be swapped as far as looks.
Only points in the game though are the Server points! Everything else is icing. Karma, XP (if your sub 80) you get “honor badges” but honestly once 80 those will come fast and furious to the point your trying to figure out what to do with em all.

Yea I did spend some Karma points on gear already, a really good one! I was also thinking of doing structured PVP with my wife hoping for more tactical play but I guess game system doesn’t want us to join matchmaking as a party which is another let down (I’ve read that it’s only possible in paid torunaments). Anyway, you’ve inspired me to try to enjoy my supportive gameplay style without caring about those pvp rewards, and to build my name not by showing off my K/D rate but by helping my allies =). Hope there are some good helpful guilds on my server like there are on yours =) Thanks nightmunch !
Isnt one of the rumors about the big February update is that WvW loot is being redesigned for support classes so its more lucrative to be one?
The devs don’t care about WvW so I’m gonna kill players in PvE!
glad to be of help! Happy Hunting!

Now you got me excited ! :P
Remember though, its just a rumor. But ANet has recognized the problem with rewards and support classes so I feel confident and have put a lot of faith that they will make this happen. Even if it doesn’t, I’ve recently come to terms with the fact that I love this class and build so much that I will take the short end of the stick for now. As someone has already said the important thing is to have fun. If you do, that’s worth more badges than you can possibly imagine. /cheesy line

Just make sure that you are in a full group of 5 and you’ll get plenty of badges and loot. It really makes a huge difference.
