The right time to stop free transfers ?
Agreed.
By looking at http://mos.millenium.org/matchups it couldn’t be a more “perfect” time to settle servers once and for all. I might have overlooked something, but I think the only real huge gaps are on US T& and EU T9 brackets, other than that all the matches are pretty close.
let free transfers only to low rated servers so they get better
I dont know what’s anet plan with keeping transfers free and unlimited….still….
People are still transfering to full t1/t2 servers because nobody wants to play on lower tiers anymore….The already overpopulated servers are getting bigger, and the small servers are getting smaller.
I get the impression they don’t plan to stop them at all, at this point. I think the increased cooldown to a week was their way of dealing with it. It doesn’t seem as if they have any interest in shutting down the free hopping service.
The right time to shut it off was like 1.5 months ago when half the servers started plummeting to the bottom of the pile because all their players left.
well at least you should not be able to transfer to a server you are matched with or have just played.

Hey,
Thank you for your questions. Currently, we have no ETA to provide about the implementation of paying transfers. As soon as we will be ready to do it, we will let you know via an announcement.
Greetings,
before they shut them down for good they need to close out the bottom tier servers. The PvE maps can hold much larger numbers of players even on the full servers (full can be adjusted up a lot as it was for the invite a friend weekend) and it was just the ridiculous low WvW map population caps that required more worlds to be opened up in first place. Now that interest in WvW has settled down it would be a good time to merge up a few worlds for better 24/7 competition and that has to be done before the close down the free transfers.

Greetings,
Seriously? with the tiers finally stabilizing, you still turn your back on WvW. Please dont wait till another ET/HoD happens…
As soon as they announce transfers will be paid everyone will switch servers to make sure they are on the one they want for the long haul. This will make all the match-ups unbalanced again and it will take another 2 months for the rating system to adjust the tiers appropriately.
Tiers stabilizing? For almost everyone, yet the people stuck against overpop’d servers like Sorrows Furnace are doomed to suffer for awhile? No thanks, keep em’ going or combine some servers before you do it. PvE and WvW are DEAD maps on our server..
Wasn’t the ability to play with friends, regardless of what server you were on, through the “visiting” feature(don’t remember what it was called) a selling point for GW2? Whats the point of that now since I can actually freely transfer to a friends server instead of simply visiting?
This whole thing seems to only apply to WvW and, imo, if someone wants to hop from server to server because it the flavor of the month, let them pay out the puppies for it..

ANet puts a lot of value into giving every player the freedom to do what he pleases (as long as he’s not griefing others). It’s an illusion to think that once free transfers are stopped your server will suddenly achieve a sense of community. Every server will still a mixture of all kind of people.
It’s not free transfers that should be stopped. They should introduce some sort of guild vs guild PvP (the game is named Guildwars after all). That will solve most of the frustrations from WvW.

Isn’t Guild Wars named so because guilds fighting nearly ended the world or something? I don’t fully know the lore, but that sounds bad. =P
I believe only the US servers have stabilised, in the EU servers sore losers have transferred to the higher servers leaving their old server to plummet.
The free transfers should have been removed weeks ago, it’s now too late, top servers will always be the top servers, it will take months for any lower server to make it’s way up.
If servers end up having to play the same old server over and over again people will get bored as they will know what the eventual result will be.
Remember to buy the officially endorsed GW2 Steel Series Keyboard, it supports macros!
WvW, we only care if it affects the servers we play on.
I hope arenanet are on top of this.. they have to realise the massive impact it has had on WvW.. in so many ways it has ruined the way the game should have grown itself in the early months.

I believe he is saying that most of the tiers are stabilizing and HoD and ET are just about in their respective tiers. Which should just about put an end to these god awful match-ups like SF/HoD/ET
How are you EVER going to stabilize tiers as long as free x-fers are still here?
And when Anet ends it, if ever, what you’ll get is an announcement that it’s coming. Which will mean a flurry of x-fers prior to the cutoff date. Which will mean several more months for the tiers to stabilize again as the quality/quantity of players has to be played out.
This is what is so baffling about the whole sordid thing, as it stands currently. Balancing out tiers is nigh impossible as long as players can just free x-fer like ping pong balls around to different servers as soon as theirs loses, or just to bandwagoneer up on a server that is “good” (for now…)
It’s asinine.

Close bottom tier servers completely, they made to many of them.

I know this is a WvW forum, but I’d like to point out, that WvW is not the only reason why people are switching servers – in fact, it’s not even the main reason. Currently the main reason seems to be PvE – since in half of the servers the PvE areas besides LA are dead, the remaining people switch to better-populated ones, hoping that at least there they’ll be able to find someone.
There’s also the minor case of PvE world completion, that needs access to all 3 sides of each WvW map. I can understand that free transfers affect WvW, but there might be better ways to solve that, without affecting people that transfer for other reasons. Perhaps a long lockout from WvW content after free transfer (but not a paid one) or something like that.
Remember, remember, 15th of November

Yes.
But you see guesting isnt enabled right now because it isnt ready.
Free transfers end when guesting is working the way anet wants it to.

And what do you propose for all the guilds that have a high population and have taken the time to upgrade their guilds on the low WvW servers? As I understand it, the points earned for a guild is relative to the server they are on. As are the upgrades. If a guild is spread across 2+ servers, they earn points on each of those servers.
If you propose to have ANet transfer all those points to the new servers, the guilds would have to redo the upgrades. Moving the upgrades can be a nightmare if a guild has two guild banks (one on each server). You do understand the database nightmare this would cause. Also, you would essentially have to break up the guild to do the transfers as well (by breaking up, I mean they could end up on multiple servers…. again).
Honestly, if a world does not want to do WvW, that is their choice. Just let the server be, do not propose something just because they do not want to participate in something you like to do. Besides, I have this sudden image of the first BWE weekend… where everyone in the guild I am in was spread across multiple overflows.
Let’s not forget the que up time either. Be honest, how many times have you qued to enter a map, gotten there (after waiting for a long period of time) to find that you need to be on another map, and there is a que for that as well (again, another long period of time). Those PvEers will at some point want to get in there to finish up their mapping, so… now you are wanting to extend that WvW que up time.
In response to OP, I agree, it is time to stop the free world transfers. Or at least lengthen them to 2 or 3 weeks, and lengthen the time over time until Anet is ready to implement the Guesting option.

You are correct, server mergers cannot happen until ANET fixes the guild influence transfer issues which they said they were working on back in early October. And free world transfers cannot end until Guesting is implemented which they’ve been working on since before the game released. You cannot ask them to lock down free server transfers before they’ve found a healthy balance in world population caps that works for all play styles, PvE and WvW. All I am saying is that they have to fix one before the other and of course it ends up being the one they have not had as much time on so hopefully they’ve got those priorities all straightened out now and are on the the right track.

As a wvw player I do not want free transfers to stop at the monent.
As lots are aware Deso benefitted from free transfers when Ruin joined, they recruited many of deso’s wvw players and promptly moved to Blacktide.
Now Deso has no que’s except for about a 2 hour slot on one border. We desperately need wvw guilds/players to join us.
I appreciate that servers who have had a massive influx of wvw guilds such as blacktide and seafarers would be happy for paid transfers to come in now. Unfortunately free transfers has been detrimental to Deso and paid transfers would completely stop any chance of us being able to recover.
Before I get flamed my guild and others have stuck to the same server through lots of crap when we could easily of defected to get an easier ride.
