When theives steal they get skills based on the profession that they’re stealing from. If a thief steals to an NPC (like a vet ogre), they have a chance to get other skills. One of these skills is Bone Crack. It STUNS (not daze like thieves get from guards) for 3 seconds, which is a long time. I play thief and I think this is way too OP for an environment where PvP happens.

To put it into perspective, this stun has twice as long a duration (and a 1/4 sec cast) as Basilisk Venom, which is an elite skill.

TBH I’m suprised it has lasted this long. I think the best solution would be to make it so you can only steal certain skills in WvW (only the ones we get from players), even from ogres and other PvE.

A 1min bleed is incredibly strong vs mesmers and other classes/builds with limited to no condition remove. As a thief you are easily able to reset the fight multiple times while your opponent can’t because that stupid bleed is keeping him infight forever.

Of course you can bring a stun breaker to deal with stuns, that a given.

But if a thief knows that you’re likely out of stunbreakers (maybe they basilisk venom first or something) and then hits you with a 3 second stun, you’re basically kittened. Even 22222 spam can take care of someone stunned for 3 seconds.

A one min bleed is strong, but its not the damage from the bleeds that is the problem, its the out of combat thing. The solution mentioned in the OP post would fix this problem too.

I’ve personally wasted so many roamers with bone crack, its not even fair to go up against it. Most people don’t assume that a thief has a 3 second stun at their disposal.

I love when people say ‘bring a stun breaker’ or ‘get some stability’. Yeah man, cause CC is few and far between and surely one stun breaker/a few seconds of stability will put an end to the never-ending CC spam that is GW2.. Not.

If you steal from a Warrior underwater, you get some terrible underwater skill, but if you then take that stolen skill onto land, you get a branch leap. The branch leap does massive damage, I’ve one shot Elementalists and some Mesmers with it before. Really fun to wait 30s~ and then use it in tandem with steal for a 900 range instagib.

I mean – it’s like 35s cd skill for 3s stun. I mean… gasp that’s like whole perma stunlock, knowing how thieves are. A thief keeps their steal skills until they’re used. That means that a thief can steal Bone Crack from some ogre, have it for 20 minutes, and then use it to absolutely face roll someone at their convenience.

Wow. If I’m on my thief and I don’t use steal every 20 or 30 SECONDS, I’m not playing.

Walk around for 20 minutes with it… lolzers.

It’s a random skill, sometimes sucks, sometimes rocks. They balance out….. to still somewhat lackluster.

As a Necro the extra long Fear they steal from me is much more annoying x,x. Still, I wouldn’t exactly call it OP. Only because multiple other professions have multiple dazes and stuns at their disposal as is. Maybe if it were something more unique to the Thief, but because a Warrior for example, can chain stun me until next Tuesday can’t say this Bone Crack ability needs to be removed.
Still though… Dat Fear… Traited to have 50% Fear duration increase, and with runes of the Necromancer, I’m only JUST getting Fear’s as long as the ones they steal from me | :

I don’t think that the thief steal skills that they get from other players is OP, just the ones that they get from random PvE enemies. There’s a reason you don’t get these in SPvP, because a 3 second stun is crazy long.

The Skull Fear we steal from necros is actually more like a warrior’s “Fear Me!” shout. The duration is based on distance from target, however the stolen version is extremely telegraphed and can be dodged while the warrior’s version is instant.

So while Skull Fear is a pretty useful (although, situational) stolen skill, it’s got several ways to counterplay it: condition cleansing, stunbreakers, dodging, interrupting during the channel (look for the thief to raise his hand up in the air for about half a second). I think even blocking skills and aegis prevent it from hitting.

The only stolen skills I keep are blinding tuft, throw feathers, or plasma. If there’s one thing to maybe complain about it’s the abundance of tuft (pretty much every creature in WvW), which allows you to easily lead in with a stealth steal, or have it ready after your initial lead to stealth steal if you use stealing traits.

Dumb as it may be, this is the thief’s only class mechanic. No whopper attack, no virtues, no tool belt skills, no useless pet, no attuments, no shattering, no death shroud. You get one extra skill. Some of then are really good, some of them are meh, some of them are completely useless.

Nope. I bought those runes specifically to make two very silly videos, then salvaged and put them back on the tp right after. I just don’t find condi builds very fun to play, even on my necro. :/

This is by far my favorite steal course I run D/D when playing a thief… the mesmer steal is a pretty close second. When I land Bone Crack, the death rate is well over 50% thanks to a very easy CnD/BS combo. Bone Crack comes from other sources as well.

Also steal starts its cool down timer immediately after a steal not on use of the stolen skill. Walking around with a loaded stolen skill is often a free attack depending on the build. Steal, get stolen ability, wait a few seconds, use stolen skill on enemy, steal is immediately ready.

Guardian stolen mace head crack is a 4 second daze. I don’t think this skill is significantly stronger than the guardian one, not enough to require a nerf. Feel free to counter my claim I haven’t done an in depth comparison on the two.

Anet likely didn’t want to remove the armor stats entirely because…well,
we’ve all seen what happens in games where there’s no disadvantage to taking your pants off.

The difference is a stun versus a daze. Daze is way more dangerous than stuns.
