Thief in wvw can stop the war
The render bug needs fixing badly and the revealed debuff needs to apply at the end of every stealth.
Another one of these threads. Don’t people use the search function? Thieves are not the problem but thieves do benefit it the most.
I don’t know how many times zerg group don’t pop up on my screen when we engage in battle.

Coordinating it on at least Stormbluff has been a challenge. People who understand what is asked of them but don’t want to do it are a problem. Also, it is difficult because there is also a large Korean population. I don’t expect every Korean to speak English or even understand what is being asked of them just like I don’t think they expect me to understand what they’re saying.
Whether willful ignorance or an honest language barrier in my experience it has been a challenge. This is just my experience though, I don’t know if it is the rule of thumb on SBI or if I am just exceptionally unlucky.

I don’t mind being on the backfoot at the start of combat but I’d at least like a chance to fight back.

I find it pretty cheesy, as a thief. You shouldn’t be able to block cap or cap, while stealthed, pretty easy fix.
I almost never do this, but the other night I trolled a guild group after one of their members force logged on me about 10 mins earlier. I figure if they want to be exploiters, I can be a troller.

Koreans who play on SBI are usually competent and experienced WvWers. A week ago after reset, I logged on SBI BL only to hear someone calling his group “idiots”, “morons” because they would not listen to the “stack” calls. I immediately said in team that calling your own servermates idiots is forbidden on this server. We are in this together and if someone’s ignorance causes your loss, take the time to calmly explain the issue after, so that the same error is not to be repeated.
This info is just one of the many infos that some players do not know and are there to learn. Where to place siege to be effective, how to take down a lord with Righteous Indignation, how to defend an attacked gate, how to run supply etc.
There are people that join WvW for the first time and lack experience. If we want WvW to flourish we need them. Raging at them for errors they make is pointless.
Maybe I’m crazy, but I think in structured PvP a thief in stealth doesn’t block people from capping points and can’t cap.
Dunno why WvW is different.
just get rid of backstab and daggers 5th stealth abilty, done all other stealths have cds done now thfs will have to rotate stealth and really try hard to be good easy sove of problem no more kittening

How can you not kill that Thief? Even if he does not render you can still target him if you know how, as long as he’s not really 24/7 in stealth which I don’t think he can be.
Hint: AoE is not how you do it.
Thieves should have:
1. Average damage
2. 1 standard stealth ability and 1 escape (not stealth reset and attack again)
At the moment they’re ludicrous – spinning thieves jumping into the middle of groups of people, scoring multiple fast kills and hopping out again unscathed.

Don’t muddy the issue. High-burst ambushing thieves are a completely separate build from what most thieves use to achieve long-term durability and stealth. People bring differing anecdotes into a thread like this and it gives the impression that thieves can do all of these things simultaneously. In reality, the thieves the OP is talking about are extremely hard to kill and can be very annoying, but don’t pose much of a threat to a group of people (or even one person).

Im a thief, and i die even with ppl who is low lvl. Ppl who rly know how to play kill me so fast, no stealth can save me. Thanks god they r so few

If you’re getting killed as a perma stealth thief you’re using the wrong build or don’t know how to time your abilities. You can spam cnd with .1s out of stealth and never run out of initiative. You can also run stealth utilities, and dagger pistol for fallback stealth. WvW points need to function just like the spvp ones, other than that they need to fix the culling bug and put the stealth debuff on people regardless of whether or not they attack in stealth.
That said it’s alot easier to troll about a broken mechanic than accepting the truth apparently. There are counters to mesmer’s zerker ignoring los, but that doesn’t mean it’s working as intended.

Stealth != Invulnerability. If your opponent knows how to track you and can match your mobility, no amount of stealth in the world will save you from death. I get the majority of my thief kills by attacking stealthed thieves.
Thieves who do this actually are always in stealth if they do it right. Tab targetting doesn’t work whatsoever. Also, going stealth interrupts any targetted skill.

look for the little swirl of black. That’s the thief’s stealth dropping. The thief may not render, but that effect does. Tab target and dodge. Voila. You’d be surprised how easy it really is.
As a thief myself I agree it is very lame. In sPvP being in stealth does not prevent a cap, so i’m not sure why it does in WvW.
I have been using this tactic at every chance. I would like to not do it but i’m not going to be some white knight when I have to deal with it from the enemy.
The good news is there is an easy counter. Group up in one spot and AoE bomb the ground around your group. The thief then has no other options but to come out of stealth and be ranged down, leave the cap circle or die to the AoE trying to use CD.
In the mean time I would hope that ArenaNet is planing to apply the revealed debuff when exiting any stealth and or a complete overhaul to the stealth system. I would also like to see stealth and node capping work as it does in sPvP.

this right here is the answer to the capping problem.
i have no idea why Anent thought it would be a good idea for this to make it into the release. It’s even more surprising that they haven’t fixed it already. its one little thing that they already did in sPvP so they know the basics on how to approach it.
sadly its just the tip of the ice berg that is the rendering problem.
Rendering is a flaw in WvW, stop blaming the Thief. If you don’t like the mechanic, then learn to counter it, like everyone else who knows what they are doing. I’m so tired of these threads. L2P skilled players can counter thieves easily.
Yes jado i need to learn how to play when most of my skills and weapons need to have a target to hit, my stun breakers are 60 seconds atleast, my 1 root has a cast time, DS dark path does not move fast enough to track you, and my grasp wont hit anything that moves. So I have tons of ways to fight a thief besides using my few aoes from the staff, ds 4, and my 1 or maybe 2 wells at most. If they render correctly I can stack bleeds, have more time to maybe root you and apply some damage. So besides sitting there running in circles I have atm very little ways to fight you besides im going to just space out aoes and hope you run into my aoes I placed. I have nothing to make you fight me, my auto attack on staff is slow, axe auto does not track, dagger you have to be in my face longer then a second to matter. So again all I can do to they fix stealth rendering is hope my aoes hit since I cannot stop you from running or force you to fight me. I will not die easily on my necro but any decent thief will run before I can kill them and I can do nothing since I cannot track them or follow quickly.

Stealth will be fixed. There is no way thieves can stay the way they are right now.
Crutch class abuses rendering issues, and glass cannon scrub builds. Screams L2P any chance it can. Class population drops 50% when all issues are corrected.

It’s not skill. I play a Thief quite often in WvW and used to do the same thing thinking “well they’re dumb, if they coordinated their attacks I would be dead.” Yesterday I experienced a Thief doing it to a good 10+ of us in camp. He was visible not even a second before going for another CnD. We catch him? Alright, he uses another stealth skill, then proceeds to CnD…ect. ect.
What is happening is a Thief abusing the culling issues in WvW and the cap mechanic in camps. Borderline exploiting imho, but of course it’s moreover Anet’s fault. No idea why stealth can prevent caps in WvW while that isn’t the case for sPvP tbh. I personally won’t be cheesing players like that any longer, and hope the culling issue is legitimately fixed sooner rather than later.

sPVP uses a different system than the rest of the game uses. That’s why a lot of trait and skill bugs exist in PVE/WvW but not in sPVP (and rarely vice versa).
I’m pretty sure the sPVP way of stealth not capping is the intended way and currently it is a bug in WvW.
