Thieves needs a nerf
nah thieves are fine and totally balanced, probably going to get a thief respond and tell me i was up-leveled or that i suck though

absolutely
Are you trying to argue that 2300 armor should be considered a defensive-heavy build?
Are you trying to argue that 20k health and 2.3k armor should be considered as glass cannon?
2.3k armor is low. Not the lowest possible (just under 2k), but only slightly above that. Yes, that is glass (maybe plastic).
it isn’t about toughness, if i was a glass cannon i’d be about 15k health and 1.8k toughness and if i was that i’d have died in 2 hits

I said “maybe plastic.” So we’ll call you a plastic cannon.
Glass cannon means you’re going only for damage, nothing else. Else it wouldn’t be glass.
So mostly people end up with 1.9k armor and 12-15k health with 40-60% c. chance and over 100 critical damage (or equal condition damage).
My simple request to people who demand nerf on a thief would be to simply play one first and try Backstab, Condition but then also try a S/P combination and running a P/P thief.
Consider all the options/builds and how your nerf would effect them not just the most used and then decide what needs nerfing.
Bottomline, everyone knows that a theif is likely to do a stealth stomp, so l2p that it is better off throwing aoe around ur downed teammate instead of ressing him/her. I don’t get why some people only think of ressing and see no other alternatives
But isn’t that kind of a win/win situation for the thief? I can either try to rez my buddy which then gets killed or i can spam my AoEs, the thief just waits outside of them and as soon as he comes out of stealth, my budy’s still lying on the ground and I have half my skills on cooldown. Admittedly it’d work in bigger groups. But as far as i can see, in a small team, there are just bad and worse things one could do in that situation, no “I can turn this to my advantage”.
People still play thieves in WvW? I rarely see them anymore.

Here is Hard Evidence in supporting your claims OP.
Than again, who would “Dare” question them in needing nerfs?
Stop using pros vs bads vids as an example. Yishis is very good at what he does, so when you put him against unskilled opponents, of course he’s going to stomp them. If you actually listen to his commentary, you’ll notice he’s very aware of his limits. In one I’ve seens, he’s even ducked out and run knowing his opponents were seasoned players.
Also to a, certain player, you’ve got nerve calling OP when you play Elementalist.

Well, the thief can only stealth for 4 seconds apart from refuge, (and refuge itself can be a death sentence for a thief sometimes) so if you are standing there dropping aoe beside ur downed team mate who is healing himself, the thief has to choose to come in take the dmg and do the stomp or reveal himself to try to attack. Just have your cc skills ready, you know where he is and when he is coming out, that is good enough for you to kill him.
And for the last time, its wvw, you don’t have to go kill that lone ranger running around. People get get too fixated about making that one kill that they run after it without thinking, and that is what the thief wants. You can blame nobody when you choose to walk into an environment suitable for your opponent. And trust me, a good thief only pick specific targets, and if you know you are in that list, the more you should stay close within a crowd.
And lastly, if the thief is so OP, wouldn’t everyone be using it? If everyone who makes a thief can do what the guy in the video did, I will say thief is OP

Hi, I’m a thief, a skilled one. And yes, I’m NOT modest, I’m just realist.
I can kill a group of 3 people, even 5, if four of them aren’t 80. But I can’t kill 2 players who know how to play, and here’s why:
1) If I manage to down someone, he is immediatly revived by the other one. Wether I’m cloaked or not, it doesn’t count, since the player who’s alive can simply heal the other/knock me back/interrupt/teleport away. Don’t you dare say “if you are cloaked how can they know you are finishing one of them?” because if they don’t expect me to try to stomp someone while stealthed they DESERVE to die.
2) AoE damage. A good player knows that even if the thief is stealthed, he can still take damage. A very good player will also predict where the thief will go (behind him, guess why!) and spam #1. If the autoattack chain starts, the thief has been hit and he’s there. I, as a thief, can always predict where an enemy thief will go and what he will do, and I always can hit him. The only time I can’t, is because he just run away.
I will be totally honest with you, guys. Revealed nerf has been a bad thing for thieves (no more CnD at the end of every chain = less backastabs, if you try to enter in shadow refuge with reavealed on, you won’t get even 3 seconds of stealth as you did before, last refuge now is even more annoying, etc etc) but I think that a mug nerf should be fine. Not a backstab one, because that would ruin all the d/d, d/p builds, even the balanced ones, but something that can lessen the damage dealt by the classic combo Mug+CnD+BS would be a fair and balanced nerf. Stealth instead has already been nerfed, and should stay as it is now. Why? Because we are thieves. Thieves kill, thieves hide. Nerf too much mug and stealth, and thieves will be weaker warriors, with half the HP and less armor.
Remember that each class has its own role. As a thief, for example, I don’t expect to survive as long as a warrior in a zerg fight, or to as useful as a mesmer, or to heal myself and others like an elementalist does, etc etc. Thief’s role is to kill. So please, even if I can understand your whines (and as I said I agree with some of them) try to not to want to delete our class.
Marquiz and Dual, I’m a Ranger; don’t know where you came about me being an elementist class. but it’s ok.
If you had paid attention to the video. he clearly states the rangers he easily killed numerous times as being “squishy”.
Just to add, we have been called many names; “squishy”, “complainers”, “clueless”, “dumb” etc
It’s obvious if you’re a thief this shouldn’t sound new to you.
May I repost that video again..
Obviously he is a good player and I Respect him for that very much. He seem quite Passionate for his class.
Still,
“It doesn’t take a rocket scientist” to play as well as he.
Why so? Thief tools and Mechanics were designed to be OP.
How many keystrokes and skills it takes a thief to OP an opponent? 1-2
Obviously that doesn’t sound OP ?
Only 1 Class is given that Benefit?

After reading all this, I guess I should pull my eng off scout duty. Currently have near 2700 armor and 22k hps, but every time I encounter a thief (quite often), it means nothing if half or more of my hps are gone in the blink of an eye. Than all the thief has to is stealth and wait for my flailing attempts to aoe or heal, then finish me off. Even FT seems to have little effect. Though this may say more about player skill than class.

Since culling ended seeing thieves rarely is a step up I would say.
on topic my opinion on this subject is pretty simple since the recent extra second on revealed was added. qq l2p qq.
edit: my glass cannon build has 101% crit damage 2300+ armor and 15k hp.

Being squishy is a choice, not something forced upon you =)
Take a look at this ranger, he knew exactly what the thief was going to do and where to look.

Not calling you an Ele.
Someone else in this thread is and he knows who he is. In any case, I’ve seen vids of Rangers rocking in WvW too.
I’ll post it later if you want. Posting on my phone at college currently.

The fact that OP abandoned the thread clearly indicates that he has no argument or solid proof of showing that theif is still OP after numerous nerfs. I sense all this verbal diareah is but his own personal QQ experience derived from several encouters of some skilled theif.
If you truly believe that one player or a class is so OP, you are more than welcome to become that % of rage quitter.

Thieves are so weak, just have a knockback and stun breaker, use a leap or something after first combo. They are the easiest class for me to fight

1. if you think keystrokes and number of skills you have to spam determines difficulty then you’re really clueless. Ele must be 2-4 times harder than any other class!!! Maybe try playing thief in sPvP at least before arguing about how hard or easy it is to play.
It takes 1 wrong estimation on CnD to ruin your day. That would be your own fault, not even counting all the counters your opponent can use. Out of thief, mesmer, warrior, and ele, thief is the hardest in terms of movement, timing, and reaction.
2. You’re a ranger right? Why are you taking the word from a thief about your class? If your server has fight clubs try showing up with roaming builds to try (since you’re obviously not talking about nerf thief in zergs—they’re terrible). That fight club I was using tanky S/D (which counters d/d thief) and my friend was using P/D condition. We both both went 1-1 against a very skilled trap/melee roaming ranger. We’re both very good thieves and entirely different builds. A ranger who knows what hes doing can do fine.
Point is, you learn a lot about how to beat a class in 1v1 duels, maybe try learning how to fight a thief before complaining about OP. Same as every other class. Vs skilled players, thief does not disproportionally win 1v1s. Vs bad players, anyone can stomp on them unless the build/class is a hard counter.
3. thief was already nerfed if you didn’t notice yet. Your reasons (that video) was made before the huge 25% revealed nerf which was a nerf in both damage and survivabilty. Also, if you don’t realize, in these types of videos, they’re only showing their best plays, not their fails. I hope you don’t seriously believe this is how it goes every time you jump into wvw or there would be 500 hours of video from every thief. What is true is that the vast majority of players in WvW are either not serious PvPers or not specced for small scale/1v1 which is why you can find videos like this (I have some too).
You might notice I have a thief in my sig but I actually play Ele almost all the time in WvW now. Reason is because ele is OP in zergs and can switch to D/D to roam any time without even respecing masteries. Therefore, buff thief in zerg play!
But really (TL;DR), I didn’t mean to write so much but from the claims in your post you clearly don’t know much about thief.
(edited by Zephyrus.9680)
Has anyone said use conditions?
“But they have the heal/stealth that cures conditions!!”
Put the conditions back on?
Wait, that would mean those of you with the problem would have to change your build and adapt.
