As long as WvW is some kind of mass pve event with occasional (and of course total avoidable) pvp for Anet this will not gonna change. They are in general deaf dumb and blind for the WvW community who likes to fight. Look at the new BL, look at the upgrades you can do for objectives and you see the direction they are heading.

Everybody is different and for many of us it is not just about the fights. some of us actually like the strategy part of WvW which brainless karma training destroys. Why does every map have to be 3 huge blobs and a scattering of roamers? Can’t people use their brains on occasion and split into multiple groups. Then we get smaller scale fights all over the map instead of a lag fest. Save the huge blob fights for a gari/keep take down and the occasional open field fights. A huge battle should be a highlight, not every other fight. The more the new maps can break up the blob mentality, the better I feel.

That’s not true at all.

It’s learning physics: figuring out how far a piece of siege can be deployed and at what angles.

It’s learning chess: anticipating where the blob will come into the map, scouting, and getting there BEFORE the enemy does.

It’s advanced chess: directing your home gvg and blue tag guilds to intercept the enemy blob BEFORE they have a chance to flip anything.

It’s learning defense: Having three people keep out 20, simply by being efficient and spotting the enemy early, as well as understanding the physics of the siege they placed. Giving the undermanned server a bit of a chance.

Don’t get me wrong, blobbing can be fun too. In fact it’s epic when there are reasonably equal numbers and it’s not an automatic steamroll.

It’s not so much fun when the other server greatly outnumbers you and steamrolls without challenge.

The golem event was terrible. I think Anet can learn from it with this thread, by simply stepping up and at least responding as the event happens. Communication is key, even if it’s temporarily negative. The radio silence just creates more chaos and leads to stupid speculation. It doesn’t mean they have to say “Oh yes, we’ll get rid of it right away, sorry sorry!” .. but even a “we unfortunately have this scheduled for a full week, we appreciate the feedback, we recognize this probably wasn’t the best event, hang in there — two more days.” would have sufficed. It was the saying nothing to multiple threads that got folks a bit annoyed.

Mind you, we are starting to see red names more and more in here. WvW is getting some much-needed love. It will still have growing pains as each new thing is tested. People tend to freak out a bit over change and worry before they actually test it out. But that’s the key; vets will flag something they know won’t work and that feedback is valuable, but unless it’s an exploit (ie: you can’t counter it), we at least should give it a chance. But if it’s absolute chaos like the golem event, I’d be hopeful they learned from the golem week event and had an emergency kill switch to address it more quickly than let it drag on a full week, based on feedback from players here.

I’m of the mindset that “if you can counter it, it’s fine” (including things that are quite difficult to counter) … if it’s impossible to counter, then it needs to be fixed as soon as possible really.

You underestimate the power of avoiding fights. Back when I was active in a gvg guild I twice gave tactical advice that resulted in sos taking a t3 waypointed keep being defended by a map queue blob, one of which was even being defended by both KH, the best gvg guild on mag at the time and VR, tower defence experts (who never used siege yet were infinitely more difficult to take a tower from than any other group I’ve ever faced).

The tactical advice I gave both times was essentially: take our gvg guild somewhere else and pvd.

Look, I get that we are all a bit edgy right now. Concerned about relevancy, changing builds and fighting style.

I can assure you all that WvW will not be the same as it is now. Will it be better or worse? hard to say. However no one can speak for all of WvW and say this is how it should be.

I am grateful it will not be the same as if it stays the same people will continue to leave it. All of you afraid of change need to embrace it, make the best of it and try to give feedback that will improve it.

We need change, this whole expansion is about change and new things. Can we for once be excited about something instead of griping about things we don’t like, before they even come out?

I personally think the stacked T1 servers are not a prime example of how WvW should be I think people should be spread out a bit more. Huge blobby fights are fun but if they happen all the time ugh..

There is something beautiful about havocing with a small 10 v 10 or 15 v 15. Its not all about super hard core fighting zerg busting everywhere.

Its about balance of defense, offense and everyone finding what they consider to be fun.

Sorry I wholeheartedly intend, to take my small group and run through that invisible fountain and surprise the hell out of you and laugh the whole time. We might still die as we will probably be outnumbered but it will be fun

A zerg can already be stealthed by using mesmer veils, chained. Go ahead and laugh, that’s fine. As long as there’s someone to “surprise the hell out”. Because those who love to fight can find less and less fights, even on Jade Quarry, and I consider all timezones: fights are scarce. Spending hours to find something enjoyable, it’s not a fun experience for those who are in WvW for the thrill of conflict, massive battles, or even small scale intense fights (not the ganking from stealth and running away if fails – kind of “fights”)

Exactly! New maps are the worst idea, no one wants them like literally no1 on our server that i’ve talked about said, “i look forward to new maps” right opposite, “to much choke, to big map, no real purpose but ninja stealthing around”.. which is true and boring..

Just give us seasons, and rewards for unlocking stuff if you battle hard for your servers that’s all I want! I want to fight for my server, and have a meaning, people mostly don’t care because there are only fights but soon we won’t even have that.. we will have cars are stuff that will ruin wvw…

Wish I could get back to GW1.. PvP-GvG. It feels like we are outcasted, not desired or rewarded..

They want an additional map! Which is completely different from what you are claiming!

I will withhold my opinion til I have played the new map, but many of the changes sound a bit…….odd for a PvP mode.

By cascade I mean that it is a tool that helps dominating teams become stronger.

WvW should have no cascade tools – it should all be anti-cascade.

An example of anti-cascade would be the losing server in a match up should have invisibility fountain at their spawn point become active (and the castle/garrison if they manage to take it). That would help stop spawn camping also.

WvW needs more catch up tools (Siegerazer) rather than more cascade tools (Orbs, Fountains).

The most fun race car games were always the ones that had catch up on them – even if you were the better driver you’d still win with catch up turned on. It’d just keep it more interesting for everyone playing.

I hadn’t looked at it in this way, but you are absolutely right. I even like the term Cascade tools versus Anti-Cascade tools. The idea of spawning the Invisibility Fountain in the lagging team’s spawn point seems like a good idea to allow players to exit spawn without hassle, but 2 minutes from spawn wouldn’t get you very far. In this you get an easy exit from spawn without breaking the game by allowing invisible zergs roaming at will around the map.

That may be true but the last new WvW map we got was a bit of a disaster (EotM). Few WvW players like that map aside from farming. It is too big with long runs, too much PvE and odd mechanics that are gimmicky.

Even the last WvW map update was a mess. Does anyone like the control point system?

Most WvW players seem to really want a basic map designed to create fights between players, guilds and zergs. We want something meaningful even if symbolic to fight over (SM and keeps are the current hotspots for zergs and camps are great for roamers). When we die, a fast return to the action. The rest is fluff and often annoying fluff.
