I prefer the idea of getting rid of free transfers. That way, any griefers would have to spend gems to transfer, that would greatly reduce the numbers of this happening.

Really what is the point of it? 200 siege units on EB. I’ve never seen a single server have 200 people to man 200 siege units. Yes you could put a lot of siege everywhere then, but at least this wouldn’t happen and you’d then have a legit method of blocking off sides of the map.

Give everyone a cap for number of siege they can drop maybe like 1-3 per person.

Give everyone the capability to transfer their siege allowance to someone else so that known commanders and siege masters can be given higher cap by other people. These also allow more capabilities to leaders in WvWvW that is ‘voted’ upon by others on their server rather than just bought with coin.

If that person transfer servers, any transferred allowances is reset back to their owners.

My suggestion would be to set the map cap a little higher or remove it entirely. Then, place a limit on how many times a person can man an individual siege weapon every 30 mins (the time it takes for a siege to despawn if unmanned for the duration.)

Suppose the player limit was set to 5 sieges per person per 30 mins (with the person being able to reman any siege of those 5 during those 30 mins; the 30 mins could reset every xx:00 or xx:30, or 30 mins after the 1st siege was manned. ) This would limit the potential for abuse to be no more than 5 sieges per person.

Happens on JQ as well. Its really annoying when you see people do this, then all of a sudden a server makes a really huge push for your keep and you have no supply to repair the gates if needed.

They need to monitor this sort of thing more closely in wvw- maybe have a GM visit wvw a bit more regularly and then give people who pull this sort of stunt a nice ban- say 1 day per siege deliberately placed in this way? I know it’s probably an alt account and won’t stop it but it would be a start.
How about stopping people from being able to enter wvw for 7 days after server transfer, might slow them down a bit?
Fives pieces in 30 minutes doesn’t sound so bad, but I don’t think it will stop multi loggers any more than my suggestion would.
The 30 minute timer doesn’t seem to work properly in a lot of places, this needs to be looked at.

I see trebs and golems time out auite a bit but ac’s timing out is so random. And never see rams time out.
They should just have a time out on everything.

So this is what was going on!! I heard some guys in our guilds vent complaining that they were not able to place siege weapons in EB (we are on TC) and couldnt figure out what the problem was. When i zoned in i noticed siege machines sitting around in all manner of bad and strange places.

This is a lame exploit and poor tactics.

Yes, on SBI we had a little bit of this going on recently too. I think the incident I witnessed was stubborn nublets though, not sabotage, as they were placing useful siege, just in very poor/easy to destroy locations, and they were using all the supply out of an unupgraded tower to do it, in spite of my protests.

What EXACTLY is the siege limit?

1. Is it x sieges per map? E.g. 600 sieges on EB? Or is it x sieges per map and per server? E.g. 200 sieges on EB for each of the 3 servers?

2. I know that there is a ‘area cap’ too, you can’t build alot of siege in the same area. But is this per server too?

For example, if FA would build 5 catapults in an alley under a tower, would that help prevent TC from building Arrowcarts in that tower?

3. Also, I assume that there it doesn’t make a difference WHO builds this siege, a newly tranferred character or an established siege-master?

Another Solution:

When the server reaches the cap the siege will despawn with the following priority (oldest first): rams, carts, ballistas, catas, trebs, golems.

Anything that is currently manned or manned within the last couple minutes is at the lowest priority for removal.

I have seen this happen to us on Blackgate a lot lately. We caught the person placing siege and they were lvl 2 and logged out when confronted. There is a simple solution. Get rid of free character transfers. Charge gems and make it so you can’t participate in WvW for a week. That would also solve numerous other WvW problems.

My server is seeing siege built on top of repair NPCs and supply depots. Players quickly running back to the fight who want to repair or resupply are having to stop for 10-15 seconds (some just give up) to target the correct thing and use it because of this stupidity. It’s griefing pure and simple, there is no need for a flame ram on top of a repair npc or supply depot, players are intentionally trying to slow down the oposition.

I’ve also seen players ninja golems and then log off/move to another map. You are unable to take it from them because of some limitation on the golem and they are easily able to steal it once it’s built and take off with it. I’m specifically talking about people who are not piloting it and helping the siege but people who are intentionally doing this to prevent us from using the golems.

There are too many griefing and exploiting gaps in the way siege currently works.

See these are perfect examples of why PvP communities are toxic. They just cant help but destroy themselves. Competition is fine but there will always be those guys (or girls) who just cant leave it at that and take it to far to this ‘win at any cost’ level. Even though most are mature players and enjoy the game and play with good sportsmanship it is way to easy for a small group to ‘ruin the game’ effectively for everyone. This is why most PvP games die. This is also why I am typically so vocal about cheating/exploiting/griefing.

If they fix this exploit, it will just be another, then another, then another. I do think moderation is required (similar to refs in sports) but that to can lead to corruption and whatnot, but at least it is something. If you can moderate your forums Anet, why cant you moderate your game?

And for those people who are doing this, if points mean that much to you here is 10,000 points, now go away.

If they changed it so we could see how placed siege I don’t see how a moderator could receive a report of the player with a screenshot like the one the original poster provided and think ANYTHING other than foul play.

What possible excuse could you think of for someone to place a row of siege rams into a wall? I can’t think of anything even remotely reasonable.

I say let us report these people, and have ANET take a HARSH stance. Heck they could announce beforehand that they are planning to make this a bannable offense and then the people couldn’t complain…they would know the rules.

Rather than changing game mechanics to avoid exploiters we really just need moderators who are actually willing to punish people for these things more harshly. Punishment is the only way you will get rid of it. You can’t just change the game to find a way for people to not exploit it…they will always find a way to take advantage of whatever changes you made and ruin it for people. You just need to be ban them and be done with it. They are scum anyway and don’t deserve anything else. MAYBE we can give them one warning…but to me I say full account ban (after they announce and put up a warning in advance).

I think a good way to fix this ‘sabotage building’ would be for players to be able to report the pieces of siege do have it de-spawned faster, ‘x’ amounts of reports by different ACCOUNTS will remove any siege.

This is by far the best suggestion. It is resistant to abuse by spies, but not hard to do, especially for a guild. You can adjust the report threshold as needed to lock out spies, trolls, and noobs, but still be able to despawn lots of siege.

It solves the problem without causing other problems. I hope Anet sees this idea.

One solution could be to remove the oldest siege item when a new siege wepon is build after the cap is reached.
Or pehaps remove the longest unused siege item.

and i realy like the idea of not being avible to build rams far away from gates, this would stop me wasting my rams by placing them on the wrong spot as well.

Why not just implement a “disassemble timer” like 10-15 secs on a siege and revert it back to supply people can pick up or just something with that timer on it to remove them. That way if they do build inside Citadel or something someone else can remove them

I feel like the best solution would be:

1. Anet clearly indicates to the playerbase that this kind of behavior is a reportable offense
2. Allow team members to see the character or account name of the player who deployed a siege weapon, so they can be reported

My guess is there are a relatively small number of people engaged in this, so it seems like overkill to change the game mechanics or put a cost on server transfers to deal with it. The right approach IMO would be to have some kind of mechanism to specifically target the offenders.

What they can do is so the guild that claim Supplycamp/Tower/Keep can destroy Siegeweapons, something like you go talk with the Lord and get blueprint and then go to the seige weapon and destroy it.

And it should be so A tower can allways have 10siegeweapons Keeps 20siegeweapons even if cape is active.

my suggestion to fix this is to allow commanders that have been active for more than 10 minutes, to call a vote for people with in a certain radius of the offending siege. ( or any siege no longer wanted ). vote passes with 50% approval so long as at least 10 people voted. the siege then turns into a mini supply stash with 1 /3 of supply refunded. Anyone can pick it up, first come first serve.

Internally the game can keep track of who’s stuff is getting taken down to much and either report to game masters or simply apply a penalty to the offending player

Using an alt account to deliberately steal another server’s supply and remove their ability to build appropriate siege is not making the game interesting, it’s giving your server an unfair advantage using a mechanic in a way that it was not designed to be used. It’s by definition an exploit.

actually thats not a bad idea i do that all the time as arrowcarts can hit the rams and people through the gate if a golum is there ill put a superior arrowcart.try it out and shoot directly at the gate.

That’s an acceptable tactic. Arrow-carts are faster.

Anet should do ANY of the following:
-Let commander’s (Must have title on) destroy the siege , People can also report the commander.
- Different De-spawn time on siege weapons. For example, Rams should be destroyed after 20 mins whether a person goes on it or not, structure taken, failed attempt at taking. Rams should just de-spawn no matter what after 20 min.

I like the idea of siege being overwritten at cap, based on value and usage.

I also like the idea of reclaiming siege. But, as many have already pointed out, this would just lead to griefers destroying siege. So, here’s my idea for that:

Have the option for placed siege to be tagged or untagged. If it’s untagged, anyone can break it down. If it’s tagged, only the person who built it can break it down. However, if it’s tagged, anyone can see the name of the character who built it, as well as the guild they’re in.

Simplest and easiest solution I can think of is to simply “Siege Lock” any recent transfer or new account for 2 weeks.

Legitimate players can still participate in fully in WvW, they just can’t personally drop siege for a while, which is usually done by more experienced players anyway. Spies likely won’t have the patience to wait a full 2 weeks to do their damage (by which time their home server might not even be in the match anymore).

All these suggested fixes are way too complicated and just create new avenues of abuse. The easiest fix has already been suggested, siege shows who built it so you can report them for a banning.
