Hey all,

What are your thoughts on the upcoming changes? Are they giving the player base a good lateral progression or is this something that is very disappointing and may deter you from coming back?

Looks very underwhelming. A lot of time/waiting for that? I’ll have to wait and see exactly what it’s all about, but color me unimpressed.

I’m hoping the progression is not going to be solely based about bonuses towards NPCs. Didn’t come to WvW to PvE.

Its a start but so little so late, and shortly after the focus will zoom back to one of the other 3 games they are trying to do at once (the leveling up game, the spvp game, the pve end game + holiday events). The devs are getting pushed by greedy leadership thinking they are taking on Lol and WoW.

Stacking, downed state, no name pvp, water combat being garbage, no instanced pvp with our real toons to break up times when rvr is borked keep people from taking it seriously.

The combat is too dumbed down to try to get a moba feel (10 buttons is too few abilities, and swtor/wows 30+ is too many. There is a sweet spot they missed), but its jsut too much of a feel of playing a half leveled up toon.

The other major issue is devs trying to turn world v world into a week long battleground instead of letting rvr develop.

3 realms help balance out in long run in real rvr, here the second strongest team goes hard after the weaker to get to second place. Throw in all the transfers, and its really degenerated down into something completely different than rvr.

Sadly newer games are likely to repeat the folly of trying to launch 3-4 games at start, and have 2-3 months of content tops as well.

Hmm i like the new changes, but i am afraid of the removal of culling.. I hope they have some new ways to reduce the lag in WvW especially the skill lag.

I rather have culling then lag in my skills.. But we will see!

I hope its gonna be good! If its not im losing my intrest on the game.

^This^ It seems that a lot of folks here don’t realize that culling was put in place to minimize ability lag (and probably also client side rendering problems) when too many players ended up in the same localized area, thereby swamping the ability of ANet’s servers to handle all the data packets. ANet could remove culling, but unless they added a kitten load of bandwidth, cap the map populations at some low number, or institute some software mods reduce the number of packets required, we could end up being able to see everyone but not be able to do much about it.

Culling and the Commander & Squad system are the two things that need worked on.

Sounds like culling is being modified, but haven’t heard much on the C&S system. They need a way for commanders to “hide” their pin AND still retain all the functions of a squad. Unique colored dots for everyone currently in the squad. I could go on and on, just do a search for “commander” and a ton of threads with player suggestions will pop up.

If I recall the reason that it took them so long to remove culling is because they were trying to find new ways to compact and reduce the data that needed to be sent. I assume that if they are going to be turning off culling that they believe they have a working solution. Granted we will not know until this goes live and it gets tested to its breaking point. I hope it works out well as I don’t like either system. I hate fighting and not being able to do anything. But I hate running headlong into a massive group and not noticing until I’m half past dead and 3/4 through them.

As for the gear rewards I am looking forward to this. I think everyone is like me and has more badges than they know what to do with at this point and since they don’t stack past 250 I have either wasted a lot on siege or purchased cheesy weapon sets for builds I will never use in order to keep them from taking up all of bank space.

I also heard something about them making the winner at the end of the weak mean something. I don’t know if that is going to be in this patch or later but I am a little worried about that. People already flock to stack the winning servers. It would only get worse if the winner at the end of the weak was rewarded extravagantly. And if the rewards are not worth it then the whole thing just becomes a joke. I think they should leave it the way it is for now.

I like the new name (title) system that is being put into place. I think it will add a level of prestige to the WvW game. I remember back in GW1 the /rank command was just plain fun. Nothing like dropping a phoenix on someone who tried to wolf you. I miss those good old days.
