Yep, was sad to see that massive reddit thread deleted from here.

It had a lot of feedback — just not necessarily positive feedback.

Deleting that thread speaks volumes.

Unfortunately, this type of “communication” is becoming the norm. At one point we got platitudes like “We are aware of the issue” and “We are looking into it” to keep us quiet. Those stopped. Then we had a void with nothing but thread moderation. Now we get things like retroactively changing patch notes to reflect undocumented changes without an editing history and mass thread deletions. I used to come to the forums to learn about the state of the game…. Now I just come for my daily dose of salt.

“Becoming”? It has been the norm from the start.

They got tired of deleting threads and deleted an entire sub-forum.

It’s the only clue we have about them actually noticing the existence of the thread at all.
Unfortunately they didn’t even take any effort to dispute the validity of the leaks, which is even more unsettling.
And Devon’s reply doesn’t count, he was only guessing as he doesn’t work at Anet anymore.

PR control? They know the vast majority of posters in this forum are angry and complain, why would deleting one of the many controversial threads in this forum change the public opinion? :P

It’s a long term game of preventing the conversation from showing up in Google on its keywords and gaining PageRank for appearing on the guildwars2.com domain.

Additionally, it absolves them of any perceived requirement to officially reply yet, which was one of the subjects of the deleted thread.

At this point, who cares?

Ah PageRank, and not Public Relations, well that’s what I expected the original poster to be talking about. NOW that part makes more sense, however I don’t know why anybody would even imagine they have a requirement to have an official reply here, if they replied to one angry thread they’d have to reply to all of em, and the manpower/hours required for that could bankrupt any company :P

Right? Clearly these forums are not for feedback to Anet, because they are going to do what THEY WANT with WvW not what we puny humans think we want….

I reported the thread as being based on an “unsubstantiated rumor” and possibly spreading misinformation.

Hopefully that may suggest the whole episode was just social engineering by some unscrupulous folks and even if it were on the table to be scrapped since no one will be willing to owe up to it.

It’s a subjective, per-topic, judgement. I believe that the subject of alliances in connection with a “major wvw overhaul”, per the evidence, deserved to be replied to then locked instead of ignored and deleted. There is real information there, and it clearly points to the conjecture and speculation that it caused.

Not true. The ways it is done without replying to every complaint or rumor are well established, and relatively straight forward. It’s also a compounding situation, where having behaved that way over time will bolster the community and create reasonable white knighting within the community, because that white knighting actually gets backed up by company action.

A customer therein defending the company is then made less of an apologist, and more of a reasonable person acting on experiences with the company. This isn’t the case with ANet.

Apparently more than one thread was deleted. Logged in to check which of the many posts I’d made in the last 4 days on the WvW topic was in a deleted thread, and guess what? I now have NO posts from the last 4 days….. GG, Anet. Way to squash the rumor mill.

LOL, as if this is something new. This subforum has ALWAYS been swiss cheese with an emphasis on keeping the cheese. It is Anet’s forum after all, they have a right to keep it reasonable in their own terms, not ours. That’s just how big companies work.

They’re also deleting peoples negative or critiquing posts on their facebook page also.

The beautiful thing about the Internet is programs that just mass-capture deleted posts and tweets. Once it’s online, it’s online forever.

They won’t learn till even more players walk away from the game as they are already hurting from lack luster sales from free to play to paid account conversation rate. I don’t even want to get started on the huge failure H.O.T is. It’s like they are testing how far they can alienate us before we say F-U.

The really worrying things about that is the restrictions on alliance chat- and the fact that it mentions grawls, ie PVE in what is supposed to be wvw.

Maybe they will scrap the pvp element entirely and entire alliances will pit themselves against a series of challenges (see ‘adventures’ in H0T) involving pve mobs, and the alliances that scores the most pve points ‘wins’ the wvw matchup.

Nothing would surprise me where wvw is concerned…

The application is using a search string for the word “alliance” so it displays all lines including that word, but not all lines are associated with one another. More than likely the grawl bit has to do with a PvE quest, like the Priory & Vigil stuff before them in the results.

I don’t get it.. What is the point of alliance chat if only guild leaders and officers can chat? What if those players are not online? How would you ask for more help?

If it’s just rumours, then address it. Pretty simple.

If not, deleting threads is a bad idea. It only fuels the speculation and fear.

Having read this thread it’s definitely not the kind of “censorship” people are talking about. It’s quite a constructive thread and I doubt they delete a thread with 3 red posts and 2 from the WvW specialist just for fun.
My guess would be that it’s not very much WvW focused because the squad system is game-wide, so the mod simply deleted it. I think they don’t move threads between subforums.

Of course this doesn’t mean I’m not suspicious. This is just a very bad “proof”

Yeah.. Just flicking back through the pages of that subforum you see 3,4 even 5 threads with Anet response PER PAGE. WvW it’s a few 2’s, some 1’s and mostly none.

Minus the numbers which were way too low the change list wasn’t that bad. It’s certainly a more interesting deal than the current broken system.
