Tick siege
3 hour? let me sleep for a few. please?
Heh. It used to be what? 15 minutes? Or was it 30?
Better yet, even before that it was completely random, lol. One piece would die in 10 minutes, another stay there for three days.
eep. We need 3-4 hr. We really do. Siege is expensive in time, suppy and gold.
It is way too hard to tick meaningful siege every 60 min in the normal play of this game.
Losing that much time and effort is very discouraging and disruptive to the cooperative effort we are trying to achieve.
There were a number of us who would do eight hour shifts, on various servers, running constantly to just refresh siege and doing nothing else. We had a big long thread on it. They finally conceded and gave us an hour and made it consistent timers accross the board, rather than random.
An hour is still ok for me personally, especially when I think back to how it was.
However, if they went longer, say 3 hours, it would open servers up to troll siege griefing with useless rams/ballis, etc meant to cap a map and give an unfair advantage to the enemy server. Three hour refresh timers would be very easy to abuse. Imagine not even being able to drop a ram to take a tower and be forced to dps down every gate?
So the one hour is kind of a happy medium. Siege griefing does still exist, but nowhere near as bad as it was when some siege wouldn’t despawn at all.
That’s why you need scouts.
Jayne, that is amazing dedication.
I don’t understand your point about troll siege. It is so hard to get useful siege set up. Where would the time and energy come from for useless siege (other than those golems.) I run to camps ferrying supply for hours, and guard yaks for hours, and spend way more than I make in WvW for siege. Just to lose it all in 60 min if no one notices it needs to be ticked in time.
you take a run with the zerg that lasts a few seconds too long, your hard work disappears, the tower is gone.
If your run with the zerg takes over 1 hour you are doing something wrong.
Especially if you have every single player on the map in said zerg.
1 hour is long enough (too long in some cases), increasing it would make it even easier for trolls to sabotage and such.

Every map has a set amount of siege you can place before you can’t place anymore. I believe it’s 180 pieces, with golems and rams having their own limit of 90 for rams and 50 for golems.
If an enemy team wished to hit an easy target, they could send in a spy to the target server to not only waste supply but cap the map with ballis facing walls etc (basically unusable). Then they attack the targeted towers or keeps knowing their rival can no longer place any more siege on map to defend. One hour refresh makes it a lot of work for the siege troll and patently obvious if the guy comes back to refresh it. Three hours opens up a bigger window and locks that server into not being able to place siege for anything for three hours minimum.
You see?
Edited to fix typos. I hate my iPad.

olleN, I am a scout and sentry. I have incredible patience. But everybody needs a break.
Thanks, Jayne, interesting.
seems way more complicated than the basic blast them if they try to come in here stuff I am seeing, but I will check it out.
The best way I came to terms with the fleeting life of a piece of siege is that if it lasted the entire time I played (and I made myself responsible for going to refresh it once an hour), then if it disappeared after I left for the day, that was fine. I consider the cost of siege really a rental fee. If it’s there when I need it, and it usually is because of my own personal culpability, then it was worth the cost.
It could be better.
We should not be punished for caring about the team enough to buy siege.
Punished?
Lol, you’re doing it wrong then.
We are not.
You seems to imply that you are the only player on your server that actually plays WvW, if not, I am rather sure that other people can refresh siege just as well as you.

Siege can make a very big difference. Stupid and clumbsy little me helped fight off the top rated server zerg three times today with arrowcarts I made, stealing supply from upgrading towers and keeps just in time when nobody was looking. Siege matters in WvW. It should not disappear in 60 min.
Exactly.
Siege matters, thus a lone troll should not be able to completely stop the ability for a server to place siege.

Well not sure now else to explain the danger of it being increased to more than an hour other than what I’ve outlined already. Oh I know! Ask an old timer on TC about Fascinating Gift.
No sure what is going on with you guys, but I am pretty sure every single bit of siege I put up today will be gone when I get up tomorrow morning. Always is.
Of course, because people usually don’t play during the night, and much less click siege.
Would you rather be unable to play siege at all?

All that says to me is don’t bother to build siege. Building Siege is a waste of effort. That is not a good use of the capabilities offered by the game.
Are you even reading what we are writing?
If they increased the decay-time, it would tempt people to troll more, which in turn could lead to not being able to place your beloved siege at ALL.
Would that really be better?

What I said and say again, is the time limit should be longer. One hour is too short of an expiration time for something as valuable and time consuming to create as siege. Please make the expiration time longer.

Lol. Do you only sleep three hours a night? That might be part of the problem
You can buy siege with badges if the cost of silver is too much. It’s pretty normal to have to build new siege every day. Again, as long as it’s there when I need it,,during the time I play, that’s all I require.
I don’t understant the troll bs. I dont see it as a problem. If you cant even get people to tick siege, how are you going to get them to troll? The main problem is apathy.
Ask someone on TC about Fascinating Gift.
As for this thread, I’m bowing out. There appears to be a disconnect.
Why would anyone object so strongly to having a longer window for ticking siege? What is the agenda for that?

It was a rather big problem some time back, with people simply building massive amount of siege in useless places, which in turn led to the cap being reached, and thus you could no longer place any siege on the map.
Had they increased the despawn time it would most likely make people more interested in doing something like this, due to its effects lasting a longer time.

stupid, is all I can say. How in the world can anyone who has wanted to have some kind of siege available in a battle not know, someone had to build it in advance with a lot of time and effort and forsight. anyway..
Lordkrall,
Maybe they went too far the other way.
I have spent seven hours in this tower I sieged up according to my own plan. It works. But I have to sleep.
I am starting to think that you might actually be one of these people putting up useless siege, and thats why you are so locked into getting longer despawn timers..

This tower will be lost within two hours of my departure. Want to bet?
If you have spent seven hours to siege up a tower you have either done something very wrong, or put up massive amounts of useless siege.
Another thing to keep in mind: What would be the point of all that siege if you are alone there? You would only be able to man one at a time anyway.

Lordkrall, I don’t think it is useless siege. I have seen it work pretty well.
We backed off full Blackgate and Sanctum of Rall zergs with the stupid arrowcarts I set up, three times.
I like arrowcarts.
I am fully aware how siege work.
I was simply pointing out that taking seven hours to siege up a tower is an extremely long time.
Krall Peterson – Warrior

I have done the same thing with arrowcarts on other towers. AC works great, cheap and effective.
I ticked siege for seven hours, did not take seven hours to siege it.
You have to keep ticking the siege. That is the point.
Ah, my mistake then.
And yes you have to tick the siege.
Once per hour.
It is quite easy to set an alarm or something if you think it is bothersome standing in the tower the whole time.
Krall Peterson – Warrior
Piken Square
the next time the zerg rolls past, will there be any acs to back them off? No?
set an alarm for one hour.
You know what, try some scientific method. How is that one hour working for your team? Quantify.
So, answer me this:
Would you rather risk being unable to even build siege than to have to rebuild it now and then?
Krall Peterson – Warrior

I would like to have a longer window for siege expiring. Thanks
