But I dont see how buffs can make the thief any less useless in WvW. Or PvE for that matter.
Exactly. You can’t make a 0 into 1 with any amount of buffs. Thief will forever be useless in PvE and WvW.
Yes, its overpowered that a stealthy/mobile duelist can kill you when you are wandering around alone with your blinders on.
Yes, adding a new condition to a class that is rarely played condition spec is a massive buff.
Yes all the devs play thieves. In fact rumor is the GW2 expansion will change the name to Thief Wars 2.
Yes, all classes except thieves are being removed from the game. No big loss, they were all useless an weren’t viable. Elementalists? Guardians? No one plays those. Mesmers? Necros? No one has ever been killed by those. Ranger? Warrior? I don’t even know what those are. Perhaps some kind of npc?

What does that make Engineers?
Really depends on what “tier” and time zone you play in. If the total enemy forces on most maps is less than 20 during your play time, a thief will be a very effective class choice, and in some cases may seem the most effective. If the enemy generally totals 80+ on any map and considers 10-20 players a “roaming” or “havoc” group then many other professions may be better.
Thieves are designed to be spikers, quickly finishing low health and downed enemies, and clutch-rezzers with refuge rezzing. In groups bigger than 10 these jobs becomes less important as the technique for finishing shifts to just applying more aoe damage, negating the need for specialized finisher classes and making kill-rallying the preferred method of rezzing.
In larger group fights, thieves tend to survive if they play well, but they often end up leaving their team dead. They also tend to be pigeonholed into the “mobile blast finisher” job (no stealthing off and killing, you stand on commander and use all initiative for cluster bomb heals/might).

Thieves are not useless in WvW. Shortbow is amazing.

Amazing compared to what? Immobilizing a zerg? Removing all their buffs? Applying quickness to everyone? Chain stuning groups?
You can pretend you matter all you want, you’re still not going to be needed nor wanted in larger guild groups. Roaming and scouting, forever alone.
After the upcoming Trait changes, you will not want to play a Thief class, so I would avoid this.

If you dont see any other viable classes in WvW, who the hell are you killing? Because you sure as hell don’t see the thieves. It must be very lonely. Unless you don’t play a thief. Then you don’t even see yourself. Are you sure you are really here?

the issue with thieves is that you need to setup your build specifically to counter them. No one class should force others to spec just so they can stand a chance against them. Thanksfully, ANet has fixed thief-godmode so atleast we “lesser” classes stand a chance rather than have 10+ people running around in circles spamming aoe all the time.

This is blatantly false. All classes can deal high burst damage. You should have some way of dealing with that. That sort of thinking is hardly thief specific.
Some classes are stronger Vs. other classes and weaker Vs. other ones. Nothing wrong with that at all since you can still outskill them and win.
I don’t build any of my non-thief characters to specifically deal with thieves, yet they all destroy thieves.
I find a complaint from a mesmer about the thief class to be quite odd… mesmers have a LOT of counters to the thief gameplay without having to build for it.
If you’re having problems with thieves there are many videos that will show you how the thief behaves. Use that. If that’s not enough, go roll one. I constantly cloak and dagger off of other already stealthed thieves. If I can regularly predict them, then so can you.

Something Im starting to think is thieves spit in the face of the “bring more” ideology in the game and players don’t want that. They want one button click or spam AoE, they want easy mode rather than actually learning how to play the game and how the combat mechanics work. Every encounter I have as a solo roamer (thief or not), guaranteed when I stop to fight if I win, they come back with more to fight me. The vast majority of players in this game are lame skill-less scrubs. If your reading this post, chances are your one of them. If I lose a fight I take it like a man. I might come back to see where I made my mistakes, but I’m not going to bring 20 players with me to hold my hand where its clearly not needed. Yet this happens to me every single day and its the main reason I mostly play thief right now, because of the “bring more” way people play stealth gives me a better chance at running away from a 1 vs skill-less zerg.

Mesmers are excellent against thiefs and any Mesmer who says otherwise is horrible at the game.
