I want to enjoy some small-scale duels/fights while playing solo.

I don’t enjoy Conquest all that much as the single Game Mode in sPvP.

I’ve tried running around alone in WvW, capping some Bloodlust-nodes etc. while trying to find enemies to kill, but I just end up running for long periods of time without encountering what I’m looking for all that often.

Any tips how to find some good duels while playing alone?

Hearing how people enjoys themselves in WvW while playing solo would be greatly appreciated aswell!

My solo strategy in wvw is to keep alert for other players and if I see one, I run like hell in the other direction.

Wait until the end of this Season. Unfortunately, with the introduction of Leagues anet took solo play out behind the barn and put a bullet in its head. Too many people around to ever find good fights any more…

Really? Did it change that much?

I was able to have some fun with a friend or two, so small group roaming is still possible. But my solo experience so far is that on the two times since Friday that I did find someone alone, the fight had barely started before we got interrupted by several more enemies (or friendlies, in one case) pouring in. Blech.

On a more positive note, what I do when I can’t find any good fights solo is play defense in our borderlands and keep an eye to the map, looking for sentries that go down before camps are hit. Sometimes the group doing camps is too large, but sometimes its just one (or two or three, if I’m built to handle that), and you get a good fight out of that. When you’re having trouble finding other roamers out and about, anticipating their movements helps to track them down.

I find solo fights all the time, in the form of a thief popping out of nowhere and spiking me, then going invis again before I have a chance to respond lol. If you want to find solo fights , just hop around the different boarderlands and take out the sentry points and camps. If you do this, it’s almost impossible to not find a fight.

capping Bloodlust-nodes? i thought you didn’t like conquest.
but hey you can play spvp like death match in spvp or theres even 1v1 room.

If you’re looking for straight-up duels with no interruptions or objectives, custom duel servers in PvP are your best bet. Just be prepared to play some master of kiting build, because with no objectives to force engagement, you’ll be at the mercy of some really effective, simple builds.

It’s become popular recently to claim that objectives discourage fighting. I’d contend that the exact opposite is true.

I’ve tried out Dueling-arenas in sPvP before. Although it was a blast and it gave me a good amount of faith of how good the combat system actually is, I got tired of it after a while.

You could also try posting in your matchup thread that you are looking for duels. Other players can whisper you and you can arrange to meet somewhere you’re unlikely to be disturbed. Near the windmill south of the southern supply camp in the borderlands is the most common dueling spot, sometimes just passing through you can find someone to play with.

whenever you cap a camp on an opponent’s bl , an x comes up on the map – anyone watching their maps will respond to that x (and they do watch maps so you will get a response 2 out of 3 times ) – the response can be anywhere from 1 thief that appears out of nowhere – to a group of 5+ people – this in addition to the npcs you started fighting lol – it can get very ugly fast….so I highly recommend you have some escape plan when using that approach, be it fast mobility or stealth.

It’s a rush though, I go solo roaming every so often – every once in a while I’ll take out an opponent and the camp at the same time heh!

Use a build that can solo camps (every class can do it). You should find fights that way both defense and offense and have something to do in between. You’ll also notice other roamers follow predictable patterns so you can catch them that way.
