1.) what made you choose and stay on the server you’re on?(guilds and friends aren’t a valid reason since transfers were free for four months)
2.) what will it take for the wvw players to get you into wvw?
3.) wvw benefits your dungeon runs, do you not agree that helping us get the buffs you benefit from is the right thing to do?
4.)is it the repair bill that scares you out?(i know pve players with upwards of 200g, so the fact that they’re scared of a 10s repair bill is confusing)
5.) why would a risen priestess of milandru be impressed with your Sunrise?
6.) to my GOM bros specifically, some of the PvE guilds on our server are upwards of 300+(and active), can you grasp how much of a difference just 1/10 of your guild members would make if they were active in wvw daily?

Why are guilds and friends not a valid reason to choose a server? Even with free transfers, most people choose to play with their friends and/or guilds.

Speaking as someone who doesn’t even have 10gold let alone 100g, yes repair bills are not my favourite pastime. It’s often a case of “here comes a zerg”, “oh look I’m dead”, “oh look my armour broke”.. and then I tot up how much silver I made in the encounter…

i haven’t needed gear in months so i don’t really have much use for gold, i end up profiting farming for like an hour a week so ….

Yah. I was thinking this as I read your post.

You know, some people like to play different ways, and that’s a good thing really, and that is why there are all kinds of ways to play GW2. So, lets let that be.

As for The server they are on, could simply have been because when they were first making a character they liked the name, and that was all their was to it.

As for the buffs, we are talking a 2% overall variance between being 1st and 3rd, to someone that PVE’s, unless they are a die hard number cruncher, they would not notice the difference.

I mean I love WvW but, when I am out there fighting, I am not thinking about the buffs, but about the glory of battle and having fun. If someone else wants to fight a dragon while I am storming a keep. That’s cool in my book.

Just saying.

Question number one doesn’t make much sense. People have to pick a server and being with friends and guildies is easily the number one reason with special interests such as WvW standings, RP, or event farming being a distant second.

The rest of your questions seem to be asking why don’t people flock to WvW. While WvW is easily my favorite part of the game it is not for everyone. Things like having a rig that can’t run that many people to just generally hating PvP (Alot of people dn’t like to compete with others in video games.) are all big reasons why there are more PvEers than WvWers. Lastly some people just need a carrot dangled in front of them and WvW has none.

I think you need to focus on #2, Lights. The rest of your questions are just jabs at the very audience you’re trying to recruit. :P

I think mainly we’re looking for advice on what we can do as WvW players to entice our heavy PvE population into trying out and sticking with WvW. We don’t want transfers or to cherrypick guilds from other servers. We’ve got plenty of people. They’re just all currently interested in doing other things.

We’ve taken a few steps such as having a commander bring a group of PvE players to WvW after completing a Jormag event to reclaim and defend our borderland. That went particularly well and people were pretty excited about being involved. It helped that things went really smoothly for that campaign and the puggers were able to take a bunch of objectives with minimal risk of dying.

We’re looking for more ideas along this vein. Any success stories out there from other servers?

This hits the nail on the head as to why I think a lot of people who enjoy PvE don’t walk into the WvW.

When people see posts like OP, the last thing they want is to have to deal with them, and even less want have to depend on them to stay alive. Ya know?

I think a lot of the PvE crowd stay out of PvP due to the unpredictability of it. You go up against an NPC mob and you know what you are going to get. There is no unpredictability in it.

Another human though brings so many more variables.

In fact, if they removed WvW buff from the PvE servers, I doubt many PvE heavy player would really notice, and even less would care.

Just saying, because when I started this game I was a PvE only player, and WvW just,.. well I found it fun, so I did it. Buffs and all that, well, getting wrapped up in that ruined it for me for a while, as opposed to made it better.

Anyway, if you want to get a PvE player into WvW, you need to start with Respecting them as players and people first and not looking them as cannon fodder for your side.

Yes… but why would a PVE player even care to transfer servers? The bonuses from WvW aren’t really earth shattering and plus all the servers get the bonus, just to a lesser degree than others.

Very true.

I was talking about anyone picking a server in my post. (Making up numbers here.) 9/10 people who pick a specific server picked it because they know someone from there and the other 10% would fall into that “Special interest” category.

That is why the first question is confusing since OP doesn’t want people to answer with the real reason why they picked the server they did.

I picked Fort Aspenwood on launch day with a group of friends. Even though they all either quit playing or maybe moved to another server, i stayed. Why? Well because I didn’t want to jump to another server because they had “elite” WvW. WvW as it’s made will have ebb and flows.

Real Life will either make people stop playing or they’ll lose interest and people who play it will transition in and out. Switching based solely on WvW would just not be a smart move at all as a PVE oriented person.

Every time this thread is bumped, I feel a strong desire to complete the subject sentence with two words, the final one being “OFF.”

Thats a heck of an assumption. I went for 6 months without ever stepping into WvW. PvE player all the way even though guildies would try to get me in. Finally, I gave in to them cause the needed another warm body for a camp flipping group.

And I died..over and over. You’d think that would be enough to make you never step foot in it again. But there is a certain tension and underlying excitement in WvW that you can’t find in PvE.

I suspect there are other folks out there that would enjoy it if they just gave it a chance.

Serious answers:

1. Random server. I’m PvE. I play alone and make friends with those I meet on my own server. I don’t care which world I’m in – they’re all the same. The server I chose during account creation was random (SoR). A week back I transferred to Blackgate to get WvW map completion and I’m staying there since I don’t care where I am.

2. Good drops and loot, gear, rewards, ranks. Seriously – the same reasons why I PvE. Currently WvW gives me nothing.

3. Prisoner’s dilemma. Nuff said. Besides, I don’t really need the buffs. If they’re there, well and good. But don’t expect me to waste time when in reality my personal presence is not really going to make a difference.

4. Not really.

5. There are others players who kill her who will be impressed.

1.) Being in the same guild as in the original guild wars our guild leader randomly decided for a german speaking server (Drakkar-Lake). There we settled down.
It doesn’t matter where we are as long as our guild is together. (But we also have one or two people from other servers in our guild)

2.) Should be more appealing. Can’t say exactly why it’s not such attractive. For my part I think as I first tried it, I didn’t get it and I lost interest. ;-)
There are no rewards that interests me..

3.) Don’t know what to say. I don’t do dungeons very often. And if I do, I do not rely on these buffs..

4.) Well, not really. But yeah, it’s also not very appealing.

5.) Why should he? And why should other players?
I am the only one that would profit from a legendary. It would please me and my eye.
-> Don’t have one and think I will not get one, until they make them more affordable to create them or maybe if the right precursor would drop.. but right now it’s not an issue and I don’t care about legendaries.

6.) Yeah. But what do you want to do? The thing is: Either people are interested in pvp or wvwvw OR not.
