This is a terrible aspect of strategy. It’s one class with a utility that no other class has anything even close to.
It’s ridiculous that you have to search bases after you take it to remove the threat of one class’s ridiculous utility.
i got caught behind the gate a tower, i was up @ the vista, and the enemy took the tower and left, leaving me inside. Not an exploit and i was working on the lord when my zerg retook the tower.

There’s always going to be one class with something that’s “the most important thing to have,” regardless of what you remove. Otherwise, every class would be 100% the same.
Is it ridiculous that I have to move around to avoid rogue cluster bomb spam from gates or take absurd damage, or that I have to wait (or go around) a choke point because guardians are walling it off and nobody can get through? Ridiculous! How absurd!
I shouldn’t have to do anything I don’t want to, especially if it requires thinking! These problems are sooooo inconvenient!

Is it ridiculous that you have to dodge one class’s AoE burst ability? I don’t see why you’d think that, when every single class has one. A Guardian’s short duration wall/barrier? Just wait a couple seconds. They’re really not even all that good.
Your two examples to explain how Mesmer’s portal is balanced is absurd. It’s an insanely overpowered utility ability on a 90 second cooldown, and it’s something that other classes don’t even have anything close to.
Sorry, but no, I’m not “just whining.” I’m stating a fact that the Mesmer is the only class you need to watch out for after capturing a base. It’s absurd that you have to make sure you do, otherwise a Mesmer can start a portal, and there’s nothing you can do but wait for their zerg to enter (and good luck getting enough players to wait at a portal for their zerg to enter).
And no, having one class with ‘the most important thing to have’ means that ‘thing’ needs nerfed in some way. It doesn’t mean you should let it go because, as you say, some class is going to have one. However, this doesn’t apply here, because if you nerf a Mesmer’s portal, no other class has anything near the utility that a Mesmer’s portal has. A Mesmer’s portal, no matter how bad you nerfed it, would still be insanely useful to transport certain things like Golems.
I’ve actually never even had the Mesmer’s portal used against me when I was in WvW. But I’ve heard about it happening, and the fact that it can is insane.
