Greetings ANET,

The other day, I’m sitting in a strategy planning meeting with my class masters, letting them know my game plan for shuffle, informing them of my crazy tactic for the WvW reset.

My game plan, rush Garrison with everything we have, build 5 golems (supply planned out), then hit SE gate. JQ, expecting us at hills, will see the blitz at garrison, and come running back to thwart our surprise move. The real surprise, is as soon as the gate goes down a Mesmer will portal the golems to watergate, starting the real siege. The main force will be charging towards the N inner gate making lots of noise, causing lots of crossed swords, and looking very disorganized. When the golems are on the inner water gate, a Mesmer would jump off from the cliff, and port the main force strait to the inner water gate (that should be down). To the enemy, it simply looks like we are retreating from a failed garrison blitz. Now we are in the keep lord room , and the only response path for the enemy is to come through a nice little choke to the north of keep lord room (which we will be AOEing)

After my meeting, my class masters set off to train people to make my break out strategy come to life when I realized just how much GW2 has completed my free time. It was then that I decided to write this to you, the creators.

Let me introduce myself, I am Coron, GM of a WvW guild TSym. The idea of WvW when waiting anxiously for this game to release was always a fun idea, but wasn’t super high on my radar. The combat combined with your combo system always had me at the edge of my seat! When I finally was able to play, I was not disappointed, and filled my pre-cleared schedule with lots and lots of GW2.

It was shortly after turning level 33 when I went into WvW for the first time. After a fairly rocky start, I found a group of people who were listening to my orders, and we decided to set up a siege on a tower (can’t remember which). Sometime between building siege equipment and standing in front of 3 catapults as rocks flew over my head crashing into the gate, and I was absolutely obsessed. I mean really, open field combat, huge maps, and STRATEGY! What else could a gamer want!

So I just wanted to thank those who have added so much to a genre that I truly believe is the future of gaming. On behalf of TSym, thanks so much for tirelessly working on this great project, and for giving so much to the gaming community. I truly believe we are still scratching the surface of what is possible in WvW, and we learn something new ever day!

A nice message, but the video, IMO is yet another example of how golem rushes in this game are currently unbalanced. An army of golems will chew through two gates faster than defenders could ever hope to respond.

How dare you doubt the minds that brought you the game in the first place!

Hehe, honestly though, I think some people really think ANET slipped and made a great game, but they really have no idea what they are doing. The whole reason your STILL playing this game is because they concepted, coded, tested, and produced it. Have a little faith, I guarantee there is a white board at ANET headquarters with ideas that would blow your mind hole.

Give them the benifit of the doubt that they know what they are doing, and strap in!

Golems only take advantage of undefended/underdefended towers. Siege chews them up, and you should have scouts on anything you want to keep.

Each siege tool has its uses.

Imagine is there was 10 people defending that garisson o.O
instant build oil or make 3 ballistas and lay waste to those golems.

But yea, golem rushes are pretty much unrivaled considering how fast a mesmer + golem combo an take down a reinforced gate even superior flame rams pale in comparison.

lv80 with skills fully unlocked, warrior, elementalist and engineer
lv80 Necromancer, all professional skills unlocked, working on the final norn elite skills.

How to see a golem rush happening? Have strategic scouts that warn you ahead of time.

How to stop a golem rush once you know it’s coming? Have ballista and trebuchets aimed at the gates before it happens.

When it’s coming, man the cannons, man the ballistas, man the trebs (and the oil if they’re stupid enough to stand under it). A handful of defenders can kill the golems. It’s all about surprise and preparation, if you’re not caught by surprise and you’re prepared for it, the golems will be on the receiving end of a blood bath, demoralizing the enemy.

For every over powered strategy in WvW, there is a counter for it. Rock beats scissors, paper beats rock etc

What testing? Did you ever check the lists of bugs that are still in the game since launch?

But yey for more crappy PvE events.

To be fair, GW2 really honed and refined many of the concepts from DAOC into something much better. It still boggles my mind that we had to suffer through over 10 years of 1v1 team based pvp, including War Hammer Online, until we returned to the 1v1v1 concept.
