I calculated that my token drop rate is 1 for every 6.67 kills. Is this an average rate? It seems like I am getting a lot of kills and not many tokens.
Sounds about right. I have ~350 badges with around 2,000 kills.
With that calculation you will need-
2285 Tokens which is 15240 kills
That equals the complete WvW set with ONE weapon. That is too many in my opinion. I WvW a lot and that seems very far away from me. Unfortunately those that run supplies and support the effort get nothing other than worthless XP. Maybe that can change.

It is a lot of badges. I’m on the fence about the drop rates. Agreed they can be hard to get in all aspects of the game other tahn direct player killing.
Just not sure if I want to see everyone running around in max gear so soon after the games release.

Another one of my concerns are the “double kill” scenarios. You don’t get anything if you can’t finish the other player off even though you took them to zero health. That needs to change as well. You have to kill the player twice essentially.
I average about 1 badge per 6 kills. Seems right.

Exactly, I’m tired of this badge B.S. Anet really dropped the ball on it.
What strikes me as odd is that ANet opted to have some player drop 2 Badges, thus increasing the RNG factor even more.
I’d rather have every 2nd or 3rd player drop one Badge than have every 6th drop two.
But in general, 1 Badge per kill would be perfect.

Boom. Nailed it. Add something for the support players and you have a winner.

You mean badges for all who participate in downing said player? A support character should be able to tag players before the down status.

No truthfully. Downing players twice needs to be taken out of WvW completely in my opinion as well as the jumping puzzles. I am speaking more building, repairing, healing and running supplies for the support players. I have almost zero motivation to play a support type build other than teamwork. Its a thankless job at this point but wins points for the world.
1113 badges out of 6153 kills. the ratio seems legit, but i have to say sometimes u get 2 badges from 1 kill.
edit: and, hell yeah, i forgot about jumping puzzles. i only tried them less than 5 times. in my opinion they shouldn’t exist in wvw maps but i have to admit that the puzzle seems to be a better way to get badges. but for a small amount it doesn’t affect the roughly 1/6 drop rate.

I don’t know. Must be the ANET “mystery” ratio. It goes right along with the Mystic Forge.

my ratios more like 1:3, about 4200 kills, and 1800 badges, but some are from jumping puzzle.

As is it is just aggravating the situation. Thieves and mesmers raking badges thus making them EVEN MORE over powered is not helping the game. PvP’ers by nature are competitive. They will roll whatever class gives them the edge. i.e. thieves and mesmers. Heck-I shelved a 74 engineer and rerolled an ele (cant bring my self to play faceroll classes). The think is, my engineer is way more valuable in a group with his support than my ele is with his dps but my engineer hardly ever gets badges while my ele rakes. I want to be competitive and getting badges is not optional. You HAVE to get badges to get the gear (all about skill my kitten . So what are you gonna do?

thieves and mesmers dont go for wvw gear. atleast not the good ones. infact only very specific builds for certain classes will find wvw gear useful.
saying you have to get wvw gear to be competitive is ridiculous.
The gear isnt even that good compared to other 80 exotic sets.
All I do is wvw so I’ll never have that other stuff. Homey don’t grind. Homeys been there and done that and is gonna pass this time around. Badges is as good as it’s going to get for me. I bought this game to pvp, nothing more.

Dungeon thieves need the power/prec/vit set otherwise they melt and are a general hindrance. Thing is you have to build specifically to use that survivability, S/P does that fairly well.

So what your saying is much like the wow model where you HAD to raid to min/max this game requires it as well? That’s disappointing and goes against everything they said this game was going to be. I apologize if I am misunderstanding how “exotics” are obtained. I just pvp.

so you’re given the option to get better gear, for less amount of work and time, but you refuse to do it.
thats completely fine, but you lose the right to complain about how hard it is to get badges, when its not hard at all, especially if all you do is wvw.
i leveled from 1-80 from playing pve, maybe 1-2 levels were gained from wvw. and during that time, i acquired enough gold in form of mats and event rewards to buy a full level 80 exotic set. no farming was needed. infact if you dont wanted, you can get exotic karma gear too, there are many viable karma sets to use. sounds like you need to do some research before coming here to complain how one out of the many ways to get gear is too hard.
(edited by wads.5730)
I think 1 badge per kill would work out pretty well actually.
I also find it sad/weird that I get more badges on average from the jumping puzzles in WvW then from actually fighting/killing people. Think its 10 from EB, then like 6 from each BL, so 28 a day potentially.
Whoo, 1 hour playing an alt, aoe’ing and killing people, for exactly 0 badges. Thanks anet. Is there like “if level < x then do not get any badges” code in there?
do jumping puzzles in eternal battlegrounds and borderlands.
get badges much faster.
possibly lesser enemies to kill also in all 3 borderlands.
eternal battlegrounds jumping puzzle now that is another story.

Ummm… I didn’t complain about anything other than support classes should maybe get a little more love in the badge department. It’s not hard to raid…did it for years in WoW. Just don’t want to do it again. Pve bores me. I’m good now though. Got my dps’er going, the love child of GW2, and it’s all good.
I have about 3400 kills and I’ve racked up 1234 (lol honest) badges. I take 15 minutes a day to do the jumping puzzles (one borderland and one eternal to dual as an orichalcum run). Do these. I’ve gotten a bunch of badges this way along with enough siege equipment to create an entire arsenal of superiors – along with two omega golems overall – on top of everything else.
Just food for thought if you were one of those who thought jumping puzzles were a waste of time. They are not.

On the contrary my friend, you already have “that other stuff.” In fact, if all you are doing is WvW, you probably already have substantial karma points. WvW not only gives you badges, it gives you karma. Click on your inventory and you will see a purple karma number on the inventory pane. You can use karma to buy top-tier exotic gear. I mostly do WvW and I have earned enough karma for two complete exotic armor sets even though I still only have 540 badges. Karma armor is the way to go if you only WvW.
And for the thread in general, my badge drop rate is 1 badge for every 5.5 kills. This seems fine to me.

Cool. Havn’t even considered using karma points til I get to 80. You sir have made me happy again. I have TONS of karma.
Honestly? I think the token goes to the person that does the most damage to the player that’s killed. When I run around solo killing stragglers, I ALWAYS get a badge.
And another thing, why not auto-add them to your inventory? Why the tiny little loot bag that’s near impossible to see in the middle of a zerg with your camera zoomed all the way out?
At risk of being ripped, I think the drop rate is terrible. I hate WvW, but I really am aiming for my Legendary. Honor Badges and 15G are the last thing I need to get in order to do it. I’m up to 150. I’m spending more time doing WvW than someone that hates WvW should have to (for a weapon skin). They don’t force people that hate dungeons to spend countless hours getting 500 badges for a dungeon. The don’t force people that want dungeon gear to spend nearly as many hours in dungeons to get full sets. It’s a more rewarding system (And the stats are identical, save the trinkets.) I don’t think they’re done tweaking it, and I expect to see changes to the system here soon. I’d imagine if they wanted people to spend more hours in WvW, they might have made more than 2 map designs.
I average about 1 every 2.6
I guess I’m lucky like that because I’m really liking the amount I’m getting.
It should be one badge, one kill. It should be added automatically to your inventory (or some sort of secondary point counter). Anything else is ridiculous and anti-fun.
I’m not even trying to make a point on how much effort it takes to get gear rewards. They could go ahead and increase the badge cost for equipment, or whatever it takes to balance the game properly. All I want is 1 kill = 1 badge automatically looted.
I play support so I don’t get many kills.
Why is getting badges even necessary? I’m not seeing why this is whine-worthy.
i have 700 tokens with 1300 kills. try doing some jumping puzzles

500 are needed for the Gift of Battle, which is needed to make a legendary weapon. Also, some people like to gear up while doing WvW, and the way to do that is to get badges to get armor/weapons.
Note: i’m not one of the “whiners”, just offering advice to someone pretty ignorant on the subject.

I was actually asking for any other reasons to get badges, as those are commonly known.
The legendary is an impossibility to obtain for the average player. For those who can get it, it takes long enough that running the JPs once a day will net more than enough.
Gearing up via badges isn’t an option, as they only offer a single set of stats. With all the possible combination of stats, the vast majority of players will not need these. If gearing up was actually something one could do, my opinion would differ. The WvW exotic set is essentially a skin, and little more.
Back to the question, why are badges necessary? I see no uses for them currently.
Badges are the primary reward for engaging in WvW. The way they work right now is implemented poorly, and is actually more of a distraction then a fun reward system.
The gear is pretty mediocre and ludicrously expensive. It’s really easy to gear up in exotics through PvE or karma purchases. Just the karma you get from WvW would probably gear you up in 4+ exotics before you have the 300 badges you need to get one from the badge vendor. So what’s the point? They could try and make the badge rewards have a neat skin, or eliminate gear rewards entirely and just use badges for WvW upgrades and siege, or they could up the drop rate (and find a way to make it fair for support classes).
badge system needs major overhaul, unfortunatly it likely is really REALLY low on their list of priorities right now
Loot bags are really the only thing keeping you from going broke in WvW.
15656 kills → *0.20 = 3131
Not only badge need revamp but
All Sector in wvw
Look metagame from Planetside2(yes mmofps)
and Campaing RVR from Warhammer but its to other topic
