Hello, so we bought a few Tomes of Knowledge from the recent Lion’s Arch event vendors to level up in WvW. However, when we used it in one of the WvW maps, the level up animation happened but our level stats did not change (stayed at level 13). The exp didn’t go to our PvE experience bar either as far as we could tell. We tried this 3 times on different WvW maps with the same result. Did we misunderstand what these Tomes do? Any help or explanation would be great- thanks

If I remember right, they shut down the functionality of it in WvW because people were exploiting them. People would buy a bunch of level up tomes, and then if they started to die (or went into downed state) they would pop one of those and insta-rez. So, to stop people using the level up tomes in such a way, if I recall they disabled them in all WvW maps. I’m wondering, why did you try it on a WvW map? Hopefully you weren’t trying the same thing

Oh I see Thanks for your reply. No we weren’t trying to use in that way XD Since the item had described it as one level in WvE/WvW I sort of assumed it would be a level in one of the two depending on what map you were in. That’s what seemed most intuitive to me I guess lol. Have they changed it and its only a WvE level now? Or do you activate it in WvE and itll add a level to both WvE and WvW?

Well, I guess they should change the description, then, it’s confusing; I didn,t know it was no more useable in WvW :s .

Though, as it does not give a WvW level, no matter on which map it’s used, we get one character level. (it’s never been one WvW level)

Yeah, I was confused too about it since I remember it used to say WvE or WvW, but I guess I could have misread it. I’m glad it was all figured out in the end then Item and quest descriptions can be the most unclear things sometimes XD

They were disabled but Anet re-enabled it. They just disabled them in combat. Also, are you sure you were using the tome of knowledge? Or the scroll of knowledge? Because the tome gives levels. The scroll gives skill points.

Hmm thats interesting. We weren’t in combat, we were just standing in that beginning area of all the WvW maps next to the vendors (so it was impossible to have been in combat there). We were using the Tome for sure, not the scrolls. Maybe just bad luck/timing in using it when Anet disabled it?

I think this all goes back to the item description- I thought that it was a WvE and/or WvW level when I read it earlier (when the Lions Arch event began), but for some reason the description is different now. If it really was just a WvE level this entire time, then it makes sense why my level 80 isnt leveling up but is still getting the animation. Its still a bit confusing though, since the exp bar at the bottom didnt move at all when we used the Tome, and normally youd expect it to move if it gave you a levels worth of experience.
