Tommorow's Matchups (2/8/2013)

agreed we want info now as we wish to know who we are going to destroy next week ^^
Bring on all challengers! Except JQ, their forces are everywhere now and its become sickening. A playfull fun kind of sickening though

I would expect the MOS site is pretty close to what we will be seeing. Sad and stupid as it is, let’s hope the math changes help use all move quickly back to where we can get good fights. Why ANET thinks destroying enjoyment for weeks is a necessary sacrifice, I am not really sure and they have been silent on the discussion. Three months too late should be ANET’s motto.
So I might have missed it but has it been announced properly yet how these new matchups are going to be working tommorow? I know the MOS site is using a guestimate but it’s not accurate as far as i’m aware.
It would be nice to know how the ladders are going to work BEFORE the reset since alot of us in the WvW community like to plan / organise reset week and leaving it this late seems a bit kitten.

Fair call. They haven’t even leaked how they are going to be doing the ranking to MOS yet. WTF, seriously this information should have been handed to the site a week ago by Anet. Anet, you have figured out what you are going to do right?

Come on now
SoR was a blast to play against.
I think ANet will have noted there is a general consensus that a score reset if everything else stays much the same is a dreadful decision as very strong servers will be placed in tiers where they will crush the opposition making it a non event within a few hours of off peak. So they are ‘concocting’ a different system’ to avoid that.
If they are not ensuring meaningful matches and just let things be I will be bitterly disappointed in their efforts to provide fun to their customers.
I have it from reliable source that this is Anet’s new math.
I don’t see the blue team on the picture… I think this is flawed…
WvW Rank 3800 (Platinum Veteran) – PvP Rank 69 (Shark) – 25,9k Achievment Points
Mërcenaries [Sold] – Ferguson’s Crossing
I don’t see how you could do this. Its automated and scores would change right up until the last minute. All you can do is predictions.
Off Topic to Wrex: Shepard.

Not shown: Sticky notes with server names all over the wall for the drunk employees who miss the dart board completely. That’s how blue team is picked.
The absolute ratings on MOS won’t be accurate until Anet shares the new math, but despite this the rankings will probably still be right.
Right now MOS shows Kaineng will go into the 2/8 matchups in the #1 spot with a rating of 1686.809. The actual rating under the new math may be higher or lower (we don’t know yet) but that is unlikely to change the fact that whatever Kaineng’s new rating turns out to be, it will still be higher than the rating of any other server. So Kaineng will still be in the #1 spot either way.
It kind of has to be this way because all the ratings were reset for the 2/1 matchups. Since everyone started this past week rated at 1500.000, as far as the rating system is concerned all servers are equally powerful, and any historical evidence to the contrary (which was recorded using the ratings system) has been wiped out. This means that the scores from the 2/1 matchups are the only thing that can affect the new math. It stands to reason that servers with bigger scores will be ranked higher than servers with smaller scores, regardless of the exact math used.

Unless the new math takes into account some new factors (population? total unique WvW players?), Ken is likely correct. Historic “power” is removed with scores for all servers being reset to the same value. Possibly, they may “seed” tiers so each tier has a slightly different starting score. All speculation at this point.

This reset will be rather hilarious for Maguuma and Dragonbrand as both Tier 3 servers (who are currently fighting Kaineg) will drop into last place or close to it. This means several weeks of completely crushing the other lower ranked servers.
Even if Mag and DB get put together, I feel bad for the 3rd server that will get railroaded by this recalculation.

If the calculations stay the same, it will be…. Eredon Terrace.
Crap.

It wouldn’t be such a bad idea to randomize the first round of matchups after the reset.

And if we both crush ET but tie each other, do we stay in tier 8?

doubtful. Ferguson’s Crossing will probably lose by a large enough margin to get pushed down into tier 8, which will cause at least one of you to float up into tier 7.

Probably, or perhaps DB/Mag would move up to another tier together due to similar score.
But don’t quote me on that. I don’t math good.

Then again, they could change the formula to dampen volatility making it harder to move between tiers. I wish they would reveal the changes to the math so we can see.

Proably will not happen as Mag as of now is not really matched vs DB. DB has about or maybe slightly more NA coverage, but DB Oceanic time will probably cap all maps. And with a really low pop server like ET DB NA going to have to only focus on Mag.

Yeah, but Mag has more flame rams than you can shake a stick at. I bet they ram cap every map.

Is there any reason to think that a team with the lowest score in their matchup this week will actually move to the bottom tier? They said the ratings reset, and all historical data is lost, but that doesn’t mean they won’t manually modify something to keep servers from moving 3,4, or 5 tiers in one week.
In other words, they know that 40,000 points in T3 should not be in the same tier as 40,000 points in T7.
At this rate SOR will be in tier 5.
Rofls.
So we got a reply, a bit late but at least it came. Thank you for taking the community into consideration, this reset was really not needed so it’s great it’s not happening. Next up, lets get rid of all these third party programme users and get the orbs back into the borderlands ;D cough cough
