Transfers are killing WvWvW
The transferring over to opponent servers to steal supply/provide intel, is a HUGE issue.
I propose a 5 day long ban on entering wuvwuv after a server transfer.
That’s late enough in a 7 week matchup to make it not appealing. The current 24 hour timer is insufficient.
The mass dumping of supply is a huge issue. Stolen from another poster…
A big reason for a lot of the server domination is easily the fact that a large number of people from the opposition dump supply. I will keep repeating this, because it is such a large issue. We, as educated gamers, understand that a well coordinated army of attackers versus the same type of defenders is fun. The stakes are higher. Adrenaline gets pumping.
Janthir got their lead by dumping supply from both SoS and Ft Aspenwood. I took screenshots of the ballistas, the arrow carts, and whatever other engines people decided to plop down in front of our beginning waypoint. They then stole supply and built these items up. This is a domino effect and it allowed Janthir to steamroll those points until the very end they had a point lead that was impossible to catch. During the first 48 hours of this past week, Janthir/SoS and Ft. Aspenwood were fighting neck and neck. What changed? Slowly but surely, both SoS & us lost our supply to the abyss…wasted on engines near our spawn. Sea of Sorrows doesn’t even show up at all. They have seemingly given up.
The thing is, when more people from Janthir come out and explain their strategies – it just screams “cheese.” It wouldn’t suck as bad if these scenario’s weren’t happening and it was just a legit stomping by Janthir.
The past week has shown that Ft Aspenwood cares about their strategies. We haven’t changed the way we work the ever-evolving WuvWuv battleground. We’ve constantly considered all angles and work with several guilds & the ‘mindless’ zerg. What defeats all of this is the cheesing of the system. It’s a bad choice by players of Janthir (and other servers who use these tactics) and they should feel bad for using those methods.
As ArenaNet’s flagship feature, WuvWuv is important to a majority of the playerbase. It is imperative that ANet get on this quickly. I am surprised they have yet to.
Lock out WvW for the duration of the current match on all transfers. I’m fairly sure it was supposed to work this way? Let’s put it in action!

Ya I think the transfers need to go altogether. What is stopping people from doing this anyway. Say Anet puts a 5 day ban on Wv3, what stops people from transferring early to do the same thing. Say on a Wednesday(Easy to calculate where servers will be next week by this time.) people from server A transfer to server B to setup this same cheesing strategy. By Monday they can just transfer back to their original server then other people can just repeat this process. For this to work, we need something longer like a 2 week ban. When 2 week matches roll around, we will need something longer.

What stops people from buying a second account for the game and continuing this practice?
What stops people from buying a second account for the game and continuing this practice?
Spending like $50 every two weeks when you get a new matchup?
Really though I was under the impression that the free transfers were to accommodate players that couldn’t join up with friends/guilds due to full servers at launch. I think we’re past that point now and it’s time to let the realms settle.
Transfers should really start to cost gems.

I don’t understand why free transfers are still available. People are just sending spies for intel or mess with enemy server resources and supplies

Not sure if I remember correctly, but I thought that free transfers were originally left open because their server guesting system isn’t working/implemented, so they kept free transfers in lieu of it.
Though at this point I’m pretty sure server/WvW population balance and other associated issues are a little more important than jumping to other servers to say hi to a friend. They can skype.
I understand free transfers to help out in the pve aspects of the game, but it is hurting wvw. if there is a way to allow free transfers but restrict wvw access then that should be implemented immediately. If not then Arena Net could at least give us a time frame for when the server hopping madness will end.
It’s not just supply either. In our (Yak’s) current matchup, a Blackgate (or possibly Gate of Madness) transfer stole an orb from a keep we just captured and ran around for 10 minutes to the other side of the map to try and die in front of a BG held keep, to presumably give the orb to his team. It despawned to the top of the map when he finally did die, but was far easier to assault there than where we had it in a keep.
These dirty tactics have to stop or WvW and Anet’s attempt at balancing it via matchups is going to be a giant fruitless failure.
why would anyone transfer to another server there currently up against in WvW except to ride the wave and enjoy the bonuses or do something dodgy, logically shouldnt Anet block people from transferring to servers there matched up against? at least until guesting is implemented for that odd situation with friends on matched servers.
Lets not forget when we go to siege a keep/tower kittenes will put down a arrow carts next to the door to screw the assault. Transfers to servers your currently facing in wuvwuv should not be allowed.
ive said this before as well, HoD should be locked out…. the graph of queue times alone shows that they probably have the players to field TWO top tier servers themselves. bearing the brunt of 2 factions on the weekend and not only surviving but DOMINATING once the week comes around proves this.
someone responded to my previous post and said “but but HoD is locked out”
no, its not…. not for any significant time period. in about 3 days of checking it morning midday and evening…. HoD has been locked twice, and “high” the rest of the time.
JQ and IoJ are full right now oddly enough.
players flocking to winning server is killing gw2, and has killed mmos in the past…. aion is my main experience with the phenomenon. no amount of asking players on winning server to transfer is going to work. or at least it didnt in aion, maybe gw2 players are smarter and actually want competition in wvw.
and heres the real problem…. anet will likely put in 1500 gems cost to transfer…. that wont actually solve anything, people will still transfer to HoD.
its actually getting to the point now where HoD needs to be deleted, and players on that server sent randomly to other servers but with their guild. if HoD wins the next 2-3 matches where a full alliance is declared and 2 v 1 HoD…. and they win…. that will completely kill wvw for whatever servers are currently on matchup with HoD.
please anet, lock down HoD permanently until further notice.
there have been many threads and posts pointing out the problems with transfers.
As many of the others in this thread have pointed out, free transfers are killing any kind of actual game play value WvW has.
Please ArenaNet, stop free transfers.

I think this idea is a good compromise. Don’t need to block all transfers just the ones from/to servers a player is currently matched against. Although, that still won’t stop an person going to a server they are not matched up with to support a guild in their alliance.

I agree, free transfers are a huge problem when it comes to WvW.
Also, even if free transfers ended tomorrow, there’s still the WvW waiting period issue. In other words, after you transfer, you should have to wait a set amount of time (1 week or whatever), before you can fight for your new server in WvW.
It’s a massive problem because I see a lot of big servers complaining about this problem, but it’s 10x worse for smaller servers. Leave during one week, come back during the next. It leaves for absolutely no server communication and guilds just cannot be bothered trying to hold players who will server transfer for a week anyway.
As said above, shouldn’t be able to WvW for that server for a week after transferring.
7-days WvW lockout is the only solution to minimize these abuse of transfer…
that person can join WvW after that… take it or leave it…

I posted this in the suggestion forum:
With the event of players transfering servers with the sole aim of playing the sabatour for WvW purposes, I propose the following two suggestions:
Players are only able to transfer servers where the destination server’s peak is at medium or lower.
Players are prevented from WvW for 4 days after arriving on a destination server.
The first suggestion enables lower pop servers to gain some population perminately due to players not being able to return to higher populated servers, and the second suggestion enables them to do WvW but not have a bikittenact through out that week, or first week when the two week ones come into play.
I believe the second option would be much hard to impliment and will also meet alot of opposition from people, but this would help not meddle with resaults for WvW.
