The treb is too easy to automate firing. Unlike other siege it can be placed in areas that are difficult to counter or disrupt allowing some players to sit on said treb and fire indefinitely with an automation script.

I am not saying we should “fix” trebs or those spots, but I would like too see something a little less easy to automate. It would not need to be sophisticated but at least make those fellows in SM earn knocking that wall down rather than loading an alt on a second computer and pressing a button.

It is but they don’t enforce it often. Trebs are particularly easy since any keyboard or mouse with basic macro capability can treb spam with no need for external software.

A change that varies the timing would help. It doesn’t need to be sophisticated to fix 99% of this admittedly minor problem.

I can’t really make myself to hate this, since it is so incredibly boring to sit on siege. So many times nobody takes the ram because no-one wants to sit mashing 1-1-1-1-1-1-2-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-2-1-1-1.... etc. Same with all the other siege as well.

One of the reasons the Golem is popular with my guild, it can auto attack all by itself :p

I don’t doubt for a moment that there are people who will use macros to run siege but I personally know people who will happily treb for hour after hour, sitting at the keyboard pressing the hotkey every time it refreshes. I’m not that heavily into it but I do like to spend a quarter of an hour or more just lobbing rocks – it’s relaxing and I like to watch the trajectory. All siege machines are fun to use. I try to get on rams whenever possible – it’s pretty competitive. Like a lot of other things some people choose to automate, whether legally or not, getting a script to do something you could do yourself is, to me, just removing something that I would prefer to be doing. I mean, if firing a treb is so boring you’d rather run a macro to do it for you, why bother using it at all? Why not log out and go play a game you actually enjoy?

I see treb fire coming from 3rd floor SM that doesn’t turn off even after the tower is flipped to their side. I am sure somebody is actively firing that treb for hours even though they hold the tower… righto.

I wish rams were auto, I have to get on it with my freaking mesmer while everyone else runs away from it, except for the other 1-2 light armor people forced onto the rams.

There are lots of scouts that don’t mind manning siege.

I have done it plenty over the years.

For sure there are people that use a macro, but I doubt this is a widespread issue.

I have seen players tag a garrison over and over again for hours and hours also. Some folks just don’t mind doing simple things for a length of time that others would hate.

Scouting is just like that. I can watch some movies or read forums online while doing a very dull job in WvW. Pressing 111111111111….is not a hardship for people like me.

More power to you for enjoying it! Personally I find most siege boring, and prefer to run around doing something else instead. This is also why I have traditionally preferred to roam, as then I don’t have to deal much with walls, so don’t need so much siege. Just in general really enjoyed the combat in the game.

But I might just take your last tip there and roll with it soon.

It is, I think the verbiage is something like un-attended play is forbidden. Aka no macros that allow you to perform a beneficial act that aids you without you being present. Auto-trebbing would qualify for that.

Still doesn’t mean he’s botting,You Assume he does.That does not make it so.

I’ve done the same loads of times,grab some food,drink,music..Start trebbing the kitten out of everything for how long i feel like it.

I remember a player from an enemy server was constantly trebbing from the NW tower on Alpine BL into the camp below over and over again no matter who owned the camp. When we decided to breach the tower, the guy on the treb didn’t react to anything we were doing and we went in and killed the guy whilst they were still trebbing the camp below.

The following day, the same person was doing the exact same thing over and over again. We would visit this tower every night whenever we faced this server and every single time it was the same person trebbing the same spot. I can’t quite believe that anyone would want to lead their life like this, so it must have been a bot or some macros setup. It was very strange to decide to always target the camp below – all those centaur kills must have really made it worth it!

From what I’ve heard, treb bots are done by people with 2 accounts on 2 computers. They’ll play normally with their main account, and have a bot set up on a laptop so they can keep an eye on it. Amazing what inane activities people will engage in to “win” at wvw.

Am with ya on this. I enjoy doing siege from time to time, and sometimes I will siege for quite a long period of time, with no macro running. And I agree, if sieging is so boring that you have to have a macro do it for you, then why do it at all?
