Turning off another commanders tag.
So you tell your zerg that is on coms to ignore the guy and his blue dorito. Really I think that’s all you can do, and it sucks you guys got trolled like that.
RIP my fair Engi and Ranger, you will be missed.
I’m pretty sure it’s not ArenaNet’s job to make people do what you want in WvW.
Today in WvW we were following a commander while on TS3 and another one was there following him too. The other commander was not on coms and refused to take off his tag when asked. This caused us to lose ten golems in a stonemist push as the other commander did not push when we needed to causing half of our numbers to be confused and ultimately lose our opportunity to make the push. Is this something that is reportable? The other commander did nothing to help and effectively cause a fifty man group to have to repair.
He sounds like a highly trained spy.
Tarnished Coast
I doubt this is report worthy, at least to anet but I would suggest to tell everyone to join on X commanders squad so they don’t see Y commander.

You can’t report someone for being an idiot, as much as you would like to. It’s your responsibility to make sure that everyone is on board with what tactics and strategies you are using, even though that can be exceedingly difficult with a large group of random people.

Have people join the commander squad. If they do this they will ONLY see his tag.

You should also report all the players that didn’t follow you.
and the ones that did follow you but took too long to get there.
also, a few of them had crappy builds, report them too.

You guys are misunderstanding me. The only reason why this was an issue was because in a 40v40 when all you can see is someone’s tag to check who to follow, having a second dorito around causes confusion which could’ve been avoided, and in mass scale fights confusion gets people killed. You buy a commander tag to lead people into fights in an organized manner, having two tags for one push both of them apart from eachother when you need to push damages your group unnecessarily. An actual solution to this would be to give players the option to turn off another commanders tag for yourself so youknow which way to actually go.
We understand you perfectly fine. It’s still not a reportable offense.
Changed title and thread text. Ignore anything above this.
Unfortunately all you can ask is for everyone to join your squad and/or put him on ignore. Then they won’t see the dorito or his commands. That’s about it.
It is sad that we can only report for certain types of kittengery. There are so many levels that aren’t even covered by it.
Use the “Call Target” function, it’s visibility is even superior than the commander tag in field combat.
A feature that could be added to WvW is the option to turn off another commanders tag for yourself so that you aren’t confused following a commander. The reason for this is when two commanders are in the same area and you don’t know which one you should be pushing with, an organized counterpush can fall apart easily. There really isn’t any reason you can see two tags within 500 units of eachother and squads are limited to 30 people so in a larger group, many people will end up confused.
Maybe you can try communicating and working WITH the other commander instead of acting like you own the field?

Hahahaha that is definitely not griefing. Sorry, there is nothing wrong with telling people to ignore a troll commander in WvW. It doesn’t work like that haha.
Having a different opinion on how to act in a situation does not make one a " troll commander ".
When you run with your own guild, you are free to do however you want, but when you are leading a public group of random players, you must respect others. WvW is not your personal play ground. Every player in WvW has the same rights.
This isn’t about rights. This is about a spy/griefer ruining WvW sieges for an entire server/BL zerg. Honestly, read the thread. This is not Birmingham in the middle of the 20th century.

From my armchair, it only sounds like you lost one fight in tier 2 which isn’t as catastrophic you describe it. At least tell me you guys tried talkin to him/her other than “turn off your tag please or I will go to the forums asking ArenaNet to turn it off for you”.

Yes it’s one fight, and what if it happens again and again? I wouldn’t want him on my server either, so I see no problem labeling him as a troll to avoid in WvW.
EDIT: Gonna let this thread go because it has changed since it was posted and the point is kind of convoluted now. I’m not sure exactly where I stand other than a commander that doesn’t work with his server and trolls people away from the main force deserves to be exiled and ignored.

What makes you think you have the right of telling him to turn off his tag? Would you accept a random player telling you which color to dye your armor?

It disorganizes group pushes confusing players, serving as a detriment to organized pushes. The point of a commander tag is to lead players for group pushes, and there’s no reason to follow another commander with a tag on.

Not only that, where does it say he has the right to grief 40 people? If we are gonna do the politically correct BS where everyone has the same rights, the needs of 40 outweigh the needs of 1 tool. Ok seriously, no more posts :P

Wasn’t me in charge at the time. Difference is 80% of the players there were in teamspeak listening to one commander, the other one was following him around saying nothing.
30 man limit isn’t always enough. There are guilds that can fill it up and then some by themselves. If u don’t get in the squad the second the tag comes on Ur out of luck even when you are just trying to run as a guild

So…if most were in VoIP and being directed to push. Were they not the ones who failedor you. If you need an icon and for it to be the only icon to lead your directions were poor. Ifyou are rreferring to those not in VoIP that’s not his fault. Sorry but not all wvw players want to be in your VoIP or follow you.

Every commander has a right to ask or tell them. It however should not be expected that they do or that they will bend to your will.
Commander
Personally I found it really frustrating that another commander could mess things up. Last night when I was on my new main (Davidah) we had two commanders that had no commander etiquette and split our forces causing us two loose a tower and a keep.
However, my fear is that if we have create a way to turn off the pin we may indirectly cause the new commanders from ever leading. It’s like young adults coming out of college i.e. how do you get experience to land a job if you can’t get experience?
I think that if there is a way ANET can scale the population of allies on a map to voting for a pin off I think it might be achievable. So if there is like 100 people on the map, 50 people are needed to turn the pin off. If there is 20, then 10 are needed to turn it off.
Again we need to be very cautious about this.

Not really, but good try. The only thing another commander has the right to do it to try and work together with whoever is on the field. This is a game, not real battle, no one really cares what you or anyone expectations are.

Why with the right stuff still. This is not a movement. I can tell him to do whatever I want. Whether the troll listens or not is inconsequential, since most people are going to ignore him the rest of his time as a commander anyway for being an idiot from there on out.

So by your logic no one has a right to speak or voice their opinion. Yes a commander does in fact a right to say what he wants to another commander. What you say will affect their response or others response. By saying what you said you contradict your next statement that says to work together. That requires conversation, which you stated in your first sentence can’t occur, because they apparently don’t have a right to ask or tell them to turn it off. This could be interpreted as don’t speak to the other commander. As I said it shouldn’t be expected that he will do so. He should expect that the other commander to make some sort of effort to communicate or work together. However, he has every right to ask or tell him to turn it off. Asking being the better way to go about it and telling being the less productive way. If someone tells me to turn off my tag I wont. If someone asks me to and it makes sense then I will. If they want me to work with them I will. If I think what they are doing is completely wrong I will tell them so and take a stand. There is nothing wrong with that. No commander should ever completely ignore others. He can, but it’s a horrible choice.
While it isn’t a real battle plenty of people care who others are and what their expectations are. Plenty of people care about what commander is doing what and use that to decide who they want to play with and follow. Commanders and other players also base tactical decisions on what they would expect out of those playing with them. People often times care about those they play with as well. They often want to play with others, because they are friends or like their play style or decisions.
A commander who forgets to realize that he is working with other players is a horrible commander. If people expect good things from you. They will follow you. If you care for other players they are much more likely to want to play with you or follow you. To ignore the thoughts, feelings, and expectations of others is foolish.

Squad limit -> 30.
Quick solution to this case then. If the majority of the people who were following the one commander were using TS the didn’t need to be in the squad. Ask random people to join the squad. Problem solved. Next topic please.

What if I am troll spy commander from another server, and I keep turning off other commander’s tag at the most important moment? :P
Wouldn’t be possible. What I’m suggesting is the ability to make other people’s tags invisible for your own screen only, not the ability to override another person’s tag for everyone
A. There’s 0 problem with having more than 1 commander on the map, if another commander is to close do this, watch closely, its tricky /whisper (commander) hey man, my guild group is taking care of this side, can you go to another area and force them to split their forces to make it easier to take this kitten? seems much simplier than coming onto the forums QQing saying you should be allowed to turn off another commanders tag, which would eventually just be used as a troll use for commander tag. If the person refuses do this…watch…again…tricky… /m hey guys, please follow (your name)‘s tag, we’ve got a lot of organization going on. People have the right to follow any commander they want, if the commander’s don’t communicate and just want to out do each other and take over the other, you’re gonna get miscommunication, you get miscommunication you begin to lose stuff, you begin to lose stuff, you begin to lose a match, you begin to lose a match, you get on the forums and make up excuses for why ur zergs can’t win, like that you can’t share space with another tag. And im not just saying that to you, but any commander who simply wants to take over another commander instead of working with them.
Edit: reading what your last post was during I was typing the last msg…lemme edit with this. If you just wanna make it invisible on your screen…just ignore it…just as effective and doesn’t mean ANET doesn’t have to hand hold people through simple paying attention skills.

Still ignoring the problem. How do I figure out which commander I should be pushing with in a 50v50 when the one I should be following’s squad is full and I can’t tell which one is him in a sea of names?
well…there’s 2 ways…watch the mini map, scroll over and see which commander is yours or not and just follow that icon on your mini map. Or, if that is to difficult, and you’re in a group, just right click the commander to call a target on him, and instead of following the icon, follow the big red target sign over his head. We have 2-3 commanders near each other a lot on our bl’s and the vast majority of us deal just fine, just takes training yourself to have your eye on multiple things at the same time.
Easy solution is to make the squadcap larger, introduce Guildtags, as somebody said grouptag the com (though I find it annoying) and have the commanders communicate with each other better and nicer.
Most of them do this pretty well. But often enough the language I see from various people in W3 can be quite horrible and elite (like I saw yesterday “ur lvl 43? then u’re wrong here”). I bet the other com wasn’t asked very nicely, rather than spammed/yelled at to turn his tag off. But that’s just an assumption.
I’m 95% in TS when I’m in W3 and still first thing I’ll do is join the squad (somehow I’ve never tripped over a full one) and I personally don’t want to leave the squad for somebody who cba to go on TS :P
Anyway it’s a generell problem that people often don’t push with the commander. If you say 80% were in TS and 50% didn’t push, that leaves 30% who didn’t push eventhough being in TS. That means either the commander didn’t give clear instructions, people weren’t able to follow for whatever reasons or they were too scared to follow.
It’s too easy to blame somebody else for your own death. I don’t believe people should be able to vote somebodies Tag away and a greater squad is more useful than being able to turn another tag off.
Why are you guys talking about such complicated matters?
“You should be able to turn off commander’s tags”
“Anet should change it, so you can…”
How about a simple:
“Anet should increase squad limit to 50”?
The mob has spoken and the turrets shall be burnt at the stake.
… why is this still on the 1st page?
No, you shouldn’t be allowed to “turn off” another CO’s tag. It’s ridiculous that you would even ask that. He spent 100g on that thing. He better kitten well be able to use it whenever he wants. Yes its annoying when you see 8 of them in LA doing nothing, but they farmed for it or shelled out real money to get it from gems, allowing the makers of the game to pay for the updates and new content.
You want it off your map? Join the squad. If you’re running over 30 men in the zerg then chances are you’re just following the butt in front of you and spamming 1 anyways. You think he is a bad CO? find a civil way of trying to make him understand that the other CO has things under control and you think he should untag. He payed good money for the game, just like you did. He has every right to play it and try to lead his server mates in battle. The server will eventually decide if he is going to be respected or not. They will choose to follow or not. It will work itself out.
Do I think they should raise the squad limit? Yes. Do I think some group of kids should be allowed to “turn off” my icon because they like their guild’s CO better? uhh no.
