Unfair Transfer Price
I am kinda in the same boat, just came back after a few month hiatus playing other games etc and found both my guilds that once had 100+ active members no longer playing so now I am looking for a new beginning. I would love to get out of the T1 zergfest being queue times are stupid long and go to a nice lower tier server with a good community. Just way too pricey atm.
So moving to the last place server in world vs world to most likely lose costs 122 gold but moving to another server in which are doing okay only costs like 50-60 … hahah go anet.

just checked, as of right now 125g for high pop, 70g for low pop.
I got my friend to play again with me mainly so we could roam in WvW. He joined Fort Aspenwood so I needed to get him onto JQ. I had plenty of gold to spare and my guild even offered to pay it but he just felt bad and eventually quite playing after 2-3 days.
He didn’t even give it a chance. The guilt just got to him even though I told him how much fun I have in WvW.
it’s now nearer to 180 gems to transfer to a bottom wvw server
by the way you should check out lions arch to see how empty it is… don’t know how to calculate population even in pve but I’m pretty but it’s a bit ridiculous

Why do people always bring up the Gold to Gem prices when complaining about costs?
The cost is not and never will be balanced around that rate.
It costs exactly the same to transfer today as it did when they first implemented paid transfers.

I think the issue is the change in conversion rates. At launch of paid transfers it was 1g per 200 gems (?) .. it’s now up to 3g per, and it keeps rising.
If you can afford the $20, it’s easy to buy the gems to transfer and the conversion rate will have no bearing really. But it certainly would limit server hopping if you had to drop $20 each time. Which may not be a bad thing. At least there’s an option to farm for the gold for gems and it’s not locked into spending actual money. The inflation rate keeps rising though, and I doubt that will ever go down. It gives a disadvantage to a server with a high pve/low wvw population.
Why the hell did it just jump like that yesterday?
Harvesting tool update. It’s account bound now, so buying one is more useful, because they can now be used on all toons.

This is false. First off there are no low or medium populations servers on NA. They are all high or very high. Second I just went and clicked transfer to all the tier 8 lowest ranked servers on NA. They are all 1000-1800 gems bases on if the server is high population or very high population.
I would love to see further transfer price increases across the board except the lowest end servers which need to be drastically discounted.
Every MMO I have ever played always had a transfer fee ranging from $15 to $25 per character, not even whole account. Only exceptions to this were server merges on downscaling or failed MMOs. Therefore I see no reason this one should be any different. Make T1 transfers the $25, bottom of T8 discounted $10, and all else in between. Transfer problems solved.
This MMO is unique and gives player an option to grind gold instead of paying the usual $$ fee. Too many people including the ones in this post here forget that this is only an option, which they may, but dont have to, or should not exercise.
Also, if you cant afford $20 for transfer, then you seriously need to re-examine your life priorities and seriously ask yourself what you are doing playing a video game and one of this nature on top of that, at all.

You can always delete all your characters and then change your home server. It works that way.
The world transfer price has become skewed due to the inflation of gem prices. Transferring to a ‘High Population’ server costs 1800 gems (about 122 gold), regardless of the server’s rank on the seasonal WvWvW bracket. That’s one player transferring to a server for the cost of a commander tag and a golem zerg that could wipe out half a borderland (many times over in the case of lower bracket WvW borderland).
I recently came back to Guild Wars 2 because of the changes in the game and mainly in the PvP, but I have friends I’d like to play with on Anvil Rock. I play the game for the PvP aspect, so the transfer cost is just not doable. I see no real reason to play if not to play and WvW with my friends, who are on Anvil Rock, which from the looks of bracket rating WvW system, could use all the help it could get.
AR isn’t a great place for WvW. You actually will want to convince your friends to move from AR.

I’m not sure anyone is that desperate. Even people who go on hiatus, if you put a lot of work into a character and boost it with exotics and eventually ascended weapons, that’s a lot of work to just flush down the toilet.

Holy cow you’re right. I meant to say 180 gold. Never get on the forums after working all day … lesson learned lol.
Anyway, I agree with the author. The inflation has made it ridiculous to pay (in gold) for the gems needed to move. The alternate is a gem card, but I can understand people hesitating at the thought of throwing down 20 dollars for a gem card just to move (especially if they just came back from not playing the game). Why should they have to pay in a f2p game just to move to play with friends. I don’t know it just seems a bit out of whack to me. I support the game because I don’t feel pressured to pay in order to have a good time. I enjoy getting weapon skins etc. I can see how this can discourage someone from playing and, because of that, it should be looked into.

The price inflation covers the increase of how easy it is to now make money compared to say a year ago…
Champ farm in Frostgorge sound for a day or two… transfer paid for.
Maybe my view is skewed since I played FFXI for so many years… where you payed 14 bucks a month for your first character and an extra doller per character thereafter + they charged a server transfer fee… so considering that… buying a few bucks in gems… or farming the gold for it just doesn’t seem that bad.
Keep in mind its these transactions that fuel future developments of the game, seeming as their not drawing in monthly cash from you the only way they can keep paying dev’s, programmers, ect that give you constantly new content is through gem store sales and initial “box” sales.
That is why almost every “Free to Play” game has a “cash shop” of some sort, at the end of the day… they need to pay their staff, server fees, ect… and turn a profit.
and of course… don’t you get a free server transfer if you delete all your characters? (I’m not sure… and I’m not willing to axe mine to find out)
I agree on that it is unfair based on world population since I’m not sure how some of those servers are high or very high. But if Anet set a flat rate like most games, then it would probably be the higher price of 1800gems for the transfer. If you look at it this way then Anet is only giving you a discount for transfering to a lower population world whenever that is feasible.
As for Gold/Gem Exchange, this cannot be used to measure fair or unfair, its pretty much balanced by supply and demand made by players. I don’t think there is another game out there where this is even an option, it’s obvious that as gold becomes more common gem value will increase since people would rather farm gold to buy gems than vice versa.
So you basicly came back to game to complain some more? Why did you even bother?
