Unlock NA Tier 1
copycat….. T1 NA is not locked, its just organized in a way where servers in it dont have to deal with a constant ppt grind every week and dont have to worry about losing ranking, rating, dropping and going through a server instability.

It’s my understanding that the NA T1 servers are “rigging the game” so to speak so that the ppl and guilds in T1 can play for fights or whatever. But couldn’t this same system work if those same guilds went to the bottom tier and kept themselves there? And wouldn’t that also free up the ppl who love PPT (not me) to move into T1?

No, because the only way this works is when your at the top, t1 is not just about fights. PPT is important, we defend and cap what/when we can. The point is not to grind it every week because it burns people out and causes to much server instability.
Despite what many might think, T1 is not about open field fights with zergs. Most of the fights are done around capping/defending objectives. If you love to roam, havok, there is plenty to do, and you will find plenty of fights where you dont run into blobs, at least in my experience. If you like to zerg, there is plenty of fighting/ppt focus for that too. But its not centered on open field fights. Those are actually less common then fighting when capping/defending.

sure its locked. theres a 200 point rating gap that says the likelyhood of pairing any of the 3 t1 servers down into t2 is a number so small that we shouldnt expect to see that happen ever barring mass exodus and 2 months of blowouts.
head here to discuss wvw without fear of infractions
while the ratings gap is large, its not by any means set in stone, that each t1 server will stay a t1 server forever, thats why its not locked. Server instability is an all too often occurence, it breaks up servers, guilds, communities, and really you cant blame some for wanting to avoid it. Ive been through it, I know many others who have, its nice just to be able to have fun and not have to worry about scores and ppt grind, and ratings, rankings etc every week.

You guys queue 2 maps max on a weeknight in NA, no? Most of us in T2 queue more. It’d be a lot more balanced and have a lot less “instability” if T1 servers had to be tested to see if their population was accurate, and it’d probably fix the meatgrinder of the gap between T2 and T3.
well queues are not the most accurate way of measuring population. During pushweeks, on reset nights we can get every map queued for hours. EB queues can go on all day even, primetime has 2 or 3 queues with varying times. I dont know about tc and jq, but from what I hear, TC has high queues pretty often. During weeknights it always varies, generally queues are more often caused by map hopping groups, rather then just a constant high amount of players on each map.

Heh queues can happen on any server, heck a t8 server can have a queue, seen it myself. It varies at times thats where it causes some confusion. Its not like it was say a year or 2 ago but queues do happen but when and how long varies. And I dont say this to scare people away from t1, I just try to be objective. Believe me Id love to see more people here on bg personally its always nice to have more people to play with. When I see small guilds/groups doing the great job they do here along with the larger ones, its just really nice to be a part of it.

The non-push weeks are why t2 has grown so much.
Plenty of tiers where people don’t care much, t1 shouldn’t be one.

More like mixing it up between fights weeks and PPT weeks. We obviously can’t control who logs on and who doesn’t. That’s ridiculous

xtd, seems like your saying… the servers in t1 dont have to worry about losing, actually thats exactly what you said “dont have to worry about losing ranking”. this sounds like the match ups are fixed. you post intelligent reasons but I think you revealed too much.
there have been rumors about guilds switching to the server that is dropping score so they dont lose their rank and thus maintain their position in the top 3.
really if the top three just hold their territory, let the ppt tick up roughly equal theres no way they can be bumped out. there is no server above to drop down and disrupt the balance, so 2/3 of the t2 servers would have to sacrifice their ppt completely for several weeks to give the chosen server a chance on rolling up.
I remember another thread with similar topic and there was said by a poster they didnt want a certain t2 server to move up. there was talk about respecting their friends on the dropping server and helping them. any of the reasons are understandable but it still shows the hierarchy is firmly in control of t1 and not willing to let go.
I heard that the PPT system will change completely with the HoT expansion.
Anyway, any match-up change would be welcome at this point, even a blowout week.

T2 grew so much because of 2 bandwagon servers in yb and db, also Magummas drop from t2/3 because of their unbalanced approach to scores..fights over ppt, same with SoR over the last year. T1 is not a tier where people dont care, I dont know why you assume that.

If you assume only one server shows up every third week when its a designated “win week” then your making a pretty clueless statement. If people didnt enjoy it here, they would leave.

The rankings and ratings do change but it doesnt go to far because of Push Weeks that keeps our ratings close, not match fixing. To assume our matches are fixed is an insult to all the players and commanders who put in tons of hours to win. Push weeks are not guaranteed wins by the way, we work for them, the servers dont just go away for the week. The enemy zergs are there, the fights are there. For some folks to assume everything is being “fixed” and just cycled by servers is absurd.
And so what someone posted about not wanting to see another server in their tier, that means what? Ive made those posts myself, its a forum, people can post whatever they want.
Personally I like not having to worry about a ppt grind every week, being able to have fun, and not worry about your server being on a tier roller coaster every week. Ive been through that, dont need it again. It helps keep people from getting burned out and thats a good thing.

NA Season tournies is where you’ll find the T1vT2 matchups. During NA off-season though a T1 server would need to be dragging 3rd consistently for a numbers of weeks as well as a consistent T2 1st place server (technically 4th) to trade places with for a week. That week the T2-in-T1 server typically gets mauled by the other two giants, while the T1-in-T2 server dominates over its two weaker adversaries. And all sides are bored. That division mainly exists due to lack of WvW population coverage on the lower tiers.
Servers in T1 must be able to provide 24hr coverage, if need be, and when need be (push weeks), in order to actually compete. But most lower tier servers have large gaps of WvW coverage and much of their week’s scorings goes to the team that has the most frequent WvW presence across their 24hr periods.
Sure, Anet may throw an off-season WvW-schedule-curveball to occasionally mix it up, but we’re then quickly reminded of why T2 doesn’t play T1.

Of course a server doesn’t only show up every third week, but they play to win every third week is what I read. So 2/3 of the time they aren’t playing to win?
Whatever works for you I guess…. Many must agree and many have left that silliness. I don’t see why you wouldn’t give the same effort every week AND not care if you win or lose… If you don’t care, you don’t OT, and you don’t burn out….

You dont seem to understand. Its not a PPT grind every week, which keeps people from getting burned out, we obviously still focus on PPT capping defending what/when we can, we just dont GRIND it. If you want to interpret that as oh each server doesnt care about winning, thats ridiculous. Nobody in t1 wants that same server instability that many of us have went through and know many others are going through now, and see the complaints constantly on forums. If you cant understand thats your problem, if its not your thing, feel free to stay where you are nobody is forcing you to do anything. But for those who want to actually have fun, not have to worry about getting burned out, and tired of constant server instability, t1 is for you.

Doesn’t anyone remember that T1 server meeting where everyone discussed who was going to have a push week, and when? They just trade wins between the three of them.
Nops. They were trying to sinc the push weeks. And that happened last week, when all the 3 servers had a push week.
the original question was… why is T1 locked?
answer: so everyone can relax and not worry about server instability. ok but its still locked.

Its only “locked” because of personal perception, its a matter of opinion and nothing more, its like saying why cant a t8 server go to t2, can it happen? Of course, will it be quick, obviously not. There is nothing set in stone, things are always subject to change. If a t2 server gets a high enough rating, its very likely a matchup could put them in a match with 2 t1 servers. But to assume any t1 server can prevent this is absurd, it cant. This is a game, its all about having fun.

Nothing is “locked”. NA T2 servers can’t consistently compete in T1 long enough to stay in T1.
SoR isn’t locked out of T1. It fell out of T1. And as X T D explained, it’s possible for a server such as them to rise back up again. Is it likely? Not any time soon, but certainly not due to them being “locked out”. TC took their place in T1, and not because TC “unlocked” anything.

Akeldama posted the correct answer ^, there is a 200 point rating gap because t2 doesn’t have the coverage to compete with t1, the gap between the tiers is not artificial, it’s there for good reason. Every time a t2 server competes in t1 it gets stomped, that is not a coincidence.

This is completely false. T2 has queues on weekdays. Last time I looked BG had no queues or very little queues and even outmanned in EBG for good periods of time.

SoR was in t1 with BG/JQ for 52 weeks counting the 7 weeks of s2 where the rankings were locked.
Dont forget when they relaxed the ratings and widened the deviations to bring fresh matches, what happened was a t1 server kept switching places with a t2 server. The t1 server ktrained t2 all week, the t2 server that was matched with t1 got ktrained all week. They eventually had to get rid of it to avoid the roflstomp every week. I remember one week on SoR during this new system at the time, we were matched against DB and FA I believe and we ended the week with over 400k points . Should be worth noting many people in t2 do not want to go to t1 because they know whats going to happen. If your comfortable in t2, I dont understand what the problem is, its like complaining about something that doesnt affect you.

A great deal of WvW guilds have transferred to T2 servers. Several lower tier servers guilds were then able to transfer to T1 due to the space created. The result is that T1 has relatively similar populations as before, while in the last 3 months, T2 servers have equivalent populations. T2 has had some great competition lately, and any of their servers could easily compete with T1 match ups. It will simply take time for score adjustments to allow it, if it does.

Clearly you do not understand. Due to the way ANET has set the way the glicko effects the matchups, the three servers in t1 have a 100% chance to match up against each other and all of the T2 servers have 0% chance to match up against a t1 server. Like I said “Unlock NA Tier 1” – because there is no actual possibility for a T2 server to be in a T1 match up because of how ANET has set it up..

Because BG hibernates. Last week the 3 servers had a push week, and BG had queues all the time.
If BG dropped to T2, people would come to play and would be an unfair fight. When there’s something at stake, BG is probably the strongest (most stacked?) server of the three T1 servers. Just look at S2, S3 and the last push week.
In time, I really don’t like this just play for real when there’s something at stake attitude, but I kinda understand.

Not even going to bother anymore, clearly some people have this ridiculous idea t1 has some backroom conspiracy to put in a fix and no matter what logical statements made some people refuse to believe otherwise. If you want to blame anet, fine, blame t1 fine, once again NOTHING IS STOPPING a t2 server from getting the rating to compete with a t1 server, it has happened before, it happens with other tiers. Nobody in t1 can do a kitten thing to stop any t2 server from rising or falling. This idea of a lock or unlock is utterly ridiculous, and frankly insulting to t2 servers because its saying they are not good enough to gain the ratings to rise in rank. And one last thing, would it bother you if it was say t7 or t8? Or is it that you just believe that you deserve to be number one but because of some conspiracy your being held down.
Honesty is not insulting, stupidity is.
>Class Balance is a Joke<
Why do people insist that the tiers are locked? Anet can’t do anything about it if players gravitate to t1 more than they do to t2 or any other server. If you want more variety in the NA t1-2 matchups then go on a massive WvW recruiting event, and bring players into t2 servers to they can help/compete with the t1 servers. Or recruit t1 players to move out and balance a bit of t1-2.
Its completely unreasonable to ask Anet to forcibly move players to other servers if they don’t want to.
