I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, although I doubt it’ll be answered this time either. WvW servers at the bottom rung are being really hurt by the gem costs. It costs about 50 gold to move to a losing server… where’s the incentive for players? There isn’t one. I just wanted to know why, after several weeks of there being low medium high and very high servers, all the servers are sitting at high or very high even when they look like graveyards.

Hopefully, we’ll have something to say very soon that will help this. Although I suppose help is always in the eye of the beholder. Stay tuned.
Because not all servers focus on WvW?
The reason for the “high” cost is to stop people from jumping between servers every week.
I assume you mean NA? It’s about 20g to move to pretty much half of the EU servers.

yes sir NA
I have to agree, NA transfer prices are ridiculously high. Free transfer to the lower tiers, we demand it !
hurray anet! thank you for turning more servers into medium pop! please let this be for more than just one weekend too
Milk the customers still loyal to the game then offer free transfers later on when things get even worse.
Smart tactic. Let’s see how this greed plays out.

I know not all servers have a high WvW population/focus, but the transfer fee system took WvW into consideration. If transfers were still free people would be jumping ship to the winning server each match-up.
I also understand that it’s to keep people from jumping servers to complete PvE activities more than once per day (or something like that, I don’t play PvE much).
That said, I think WvW population should be taken into account when determining the transfer fee to join a server.

You can PvE on any server for free through the guesting system.
The only reason for transfer, with the guesting system now, is region changes, and WvW. So gem cost should really be more affected by that, than pve population.

That is probably just from increasing capacity for the incoming free trial thing starting on the 23rd.

While this is true the guesting system is missing one very important feature. The ability to remember which server you are guested one. Right now if someone has one home server and wants to play on another server most of the time they have to go through the guesting process every single time they relog or change character.

Setting transfer prices based on total server population has always been the incorrect way to approach the situation, particularly when the primary reason people transfer is WvW. They must have stats on average population in WvW per server. The transfer cost should be based on those numbers, not total server population which is largely irrelevant.

Seriously, its sad. us folks here at BP fought AR all year. Literally. Borlis Pass is just not Borlis Pass without our mini me. Transfer to AR today! (or make it easier to transfer to AR today).

Hopefully you are just trying to be polite…
Not only does the cost to move to lower population servers need to stay the same (if not become higher since guilds farming PVE for a week can provide 50g per person easy) but these costs should increase drastically every time an account changes servers. . A time-gate (eg. 1 server transfer/ 6 months maximum) wouldn’t hurt either.
Large guilds moving around at the drop of a hat only serves those moving them and not the servers (temporary wvw rating boosts = a long period of getting zerged when settling back to your original/new position) or the game (matchmaking gets screwed).
Alliances which want to server hop have as much right to have fun as the next guy and i don’t see how one could think that server hoping and destroying WvW for months should take precedence over things like retaining balance.
Their incentives in moving to a low population server are less queues, less lag , bigger social role (for those who are into server politics/diplomacy), more space to operate in WvW maps etc.
The last thing WvW needs is an easier way for Guilds with 0 server loyalty to be able to come in & have their fun trashing lower tier servers then jump ships due to the opposition becoming “on par” with them.
PS. I’ve been on RoS a long time now and i have witnessed my server get royally screwed up twice because some WvW guild alliance decided to make it their home “for ever” …and then abandoned their “crusade” half way through. I believe i have more than enough experience on the aftermath to be as absolute as i am.

People QQ when transfers were free, people QQ when you have to pay gems…
Just earn the transfer fee and transfer. I had to do it and so should everyone else.
Well anet increased the server caps again, which sucks. Inb4 BG and TC get mass transferred… again. Four T1 servers is gonna be real interesting, just like the HoD/SBI/JQ/ET days.
Maybe there could be a way to do implement a full guild transfer? Your guild pays a set ammount of gold / influence / merits based on the WvW Tier you’re moving to, and number of members (maybe something related to ranks), then everyone on the guild has the option to move for free, and the guild buffs remain.
I think a system like that would help spreading out the population, since you could lock T1, and make very cheap to go to a T5 server, but it also wouldn’t stop single players from joining a server, as is the case right now.
And you could also have a maximum ammount of guilds (base on member count) that could transfer to a server per week, to prevent another Kaineng fiasco..

Well, atleast for lower tier EU servers, we play here because we don’t like zerging, so everything is okay.
And yeah, i’m currently on Vabbi and like it.
Link it to WvW all you want but I think it would be better to open up transfers every 4 weeks or so. Create seasons, that way people and guilds will create strong servers and alliances every 4 weeks, things will move around. There is such a thing as too stable a server. If you do this you can even make the random deviation a bit bigger.
So what if people transfer to winning servers every month, or change servers often? Im stuck on the #1 server because im not paying a computer to run an automated script to assign my bits to somewhere more challenging.
This whole paid transfer thing is so 2003. It should be one free transfer once a month.

Transfer more roamers to AR please. Also give me the FC/AR/ET matchup I am dying for.

lol not everyone has the time to farm that cash. Some ppl have a life ad don’t roll an 80 of every profession.
Check this guy’s signature. Yikes.

And those that have lives most likely have work, which would mean they have enough money to actually buy gems.
The cost is fine as it is, it’s working as intended. It does prevent most people from switching servers too often.
And if you feel that you’re stuck on the wrong server you have the option to either buy gems with real money or farm in-game currency ..
This is coming from someone who spent ALL their gold on changing server. Nobody’s forcing you to move…

Yes please for the love… :-}
special proviso for our brother guilds on bp and ebay (shoot, throw sbi in there for good measure, they’re a good group too though we don’t have the history we did w/ bp and ebay had fun matching up w/ them): free transfers to ar? Come on Devon, we know you can make this happen

I lol’d at you people that talk about winning side. Most WvW guild now doesn’t care kitten about PPT, it’s all about-
1) Run around for hours
2) Find some decent guild opponent
3)Face rolling your opponent
-just so they can get some training for future GvG. PPT is all about coverage, not how good you play the game.
Winning side… heh..
