Update on Arrow Carts in WvW
Sooo… Has there been any news on the arrowcarts? Like, reducing damage, increasing cost, reducing range etc which everyone but exploiters want?
Its getting really tiresome.
Or at the very least, can someone figure out how to glitch the servers so we can get a couple of days of golem only again?
We really need an arrow cart fix. I know this game mode is named ACvAC and all, but come on. It is ridiculous. Here are the changes that need to be made
1. AC needs to have line of sight.
Next pick one of the two:
1. Nerf AC damage by 50% to players and siege.
2. Leave damage the same, but put a proximity limit on AC building. No AC can be built within a distance of 1200 from another AC.
Have we just learnt to deal with the fact that the game is arrow cart wars now rather than guild wars. Or have people just given up trying to get Anet to change their minds about anything in game?
If any keep or tower is defended with 5 or more people and ac’s it becomes ridiculously hard to take. Further helping those servers who can pvd at certain times of day and get stuff upgraded(the problem for Anet is it helps the servers with better coverage even more than the ones with less coverage).
It is hard to find a fight without ac’s becoming involved, one ac will totally imbalance a fight. Rather than fight in open field people are running to the nearest keep/tower/bottle neck to fight under ac fire.
There is only one reason for all this, the damage on ac’s is so op at the moment, and it seems it is here to stay.
Trebs behind doors, ac’s = rams lasting 10 seconds if you are lucky, is that really a balanced system?
I stood in range of the siege designed to kill players and died. Fix plz. Rams are the only siege real men use.
Nerf ACs = keep 30 people in every keep and tower, or zerg around in circles pressing 1 on gates that never have defenders. Both sound fun and exciting.

……….whats the point of rams then?
The point of rams is destroying doors faster. It’s not meant to be invulnerable and a safe way to enter towers / keeps.
If you can’t deal with the ACs damage, then use catapults, trebuchets and all the other tools you’re given (your weapons included).
Rams would work as rams if they couldn’t be destroyed by physics defying arrow carts that shoot arrows that travel through solid walls from the safety of the tower/keep.
The only thing arrow carts need for now is to respect the laws of physics.
Why physics defying ? They’re hitting from above the doors. I don’t see any problem in physics with that…You can shoot an arrow to the sky and it will fall down.
So they’re not exactly “traveling through solid walls”

I find it kind of funny that you mention respecting physics in terms of the arch, but not in terms of an arrow actually “hurting” a wood/steel ram.
Its not like shooting an arrow into a tree make the tree explode.
This i can agree with ^^
Arrow carts should do very little damage to rams. That’s what the oil is there for (wood does burn).

You cannot land the arrows with angle 90. That is physics defying. Check how SPG tanks shot and land in WoT.
If you shoot an arrow hard enough…

They should really reduce the amount of AC’s in a area. have 5 to 7 on a gate is ridiculous.
If you shoot an arrow hard enough…
… you only add extra weight to the ram.
Personally I think there is one very, very simple way to solve the ACs once and for all – make them keep/camp defenses just like oil/cannons/mortars.
No more balance issues, no more field deployments by the dozen. If you want field deployments, how about buffing the Engineer to actually be usefull in WvW, deploying 30s weaker variants of the arrowcarts via the elite?

Once arrow carts are fixed to respect the laws of the universe (and AoEs stop hitting people through walls) pots of oil will suddenly be buffed into the only siege weapon capable of killing the rams
They might need to add self inflicted friendly fire damage to catapults though to prevent the cheesy point blank catapult into wall thing. Such positioning would be nearly impossible to hit back with sieges if left unchecked.
A mesmer can create phantasms and clones with his mind, an elementalist can “ride the lightning” into a group of foes and send them flying, a guardian can create magical walls of energy… yet people are worrying about the real life physics of arrows?

This!

Actually, yes.
Magic is magic – we expect it to behave like magic.
An arrow on the other hand is not magic – its a physical object that should be subject to actual physics. And the arrowcart is just a plain wooden arrowcart firing plain wooden/possibly mithril arrows (presumable, orichalcum is too expensive to shoot)
Games dont have to be realistic, they have to be believable.
Now, if you where to tell me thakittens a magic arrowcart firing illusionary arrows, then it’d be a whole different matter. Actually it would even make sense, since all illusion based physics in this game are so bugged an arrow flying through a wall is no different from an illusionary leap being stopped by a 2cm height difference.

Arrows travel in a parabolic arc. Just going to mention that.

what if engineer made tiny holes in walls so arrows can get trough them and you all were wrong from the start?

Who says the arrowcart is plain and non magical? if you throw a blueprint on the ground it becomes a buildsite. Hit that buildsite with that wooden hammer that was conjured out of tin air and the supply (that you cannot see or feel, it is just a number on a screen) makes it grow until it appears. This arrowcart can also fire without having to be loaded, has arrows that undo stealthmagic and poison people. The arrows have some kind of weakness that they cannot hit people that roll. They rain down a lot of arrows but if your the 51st person in the area where they land, none of them will hurt you.

Well you know, I’m not saying that arrow carts should respect physics just because they should. I’m saying it because I think the game would be better that way.
Not we can cut up the standard “it’s not realistic! but it’s doesn’t matter it’s magic! but then it’s not realistic so it’s bad!” discussion cycle and go back about Arrow Carts and their effects (position and negative) on WvW.

Wait, what ? Why would you shoot at 90 degrees, you’d get it on your own head. Just shoot it at an angle between 45 and 70 and it’s going to fly just right. Sure the angle on arrow carts is a bit high but it’s still not going “through walls”. And it isn’t so different from AoEs from several classes that hit you even when they don’t see you.
