Whether you like it or not, one server will get DBL as their home borderlands.

I have a few questions about using Desert BL alongside Alpine:

1. Will DBL now have way points that are open for whoever caps the keep (like Alpine) or will will there be the previous system where the WP belongs to the nearest spawning server?

2. Is bloodlust being added to Desert BL or removed from Alpine?

3. Are the PvE type mobs being reworked to be similar in number and strength between the BLs? (Or even removed?!).

I can’t recall seeing definitive answers to these questions (then again my memory is getting worse as I get more ancient…). Previously the differences were not important because everyone had the same BL, but soon this will not be the case.

Your 1. point has already been changed before – but I don’t remember whether it was possible to build a WP in a keep that’s not on your home BL.

The mobs weren’t harder on the DBL but their numbers have been decreased that radically that the wvw maps really seem dead nowadays – I guess the same will apply to the DBL.

Waypoint system was changed to what it is now before alpines came back. Other questions idk much about, its probably going to be wait and see, as always.

My memory is not that great either (LOL), but I’m pretty sure they had already fixed it to be this way in the rework of the Desert BL?

2. Is bloodlust being added to Desert BL or removed from Alpine? They must do one or the other, otherwise it will screw up PPK scores.

3. Are the PvE type mobs being reworked to be similar in number and strength between the BLs? (Or even removed?!). Why?

It was working like this before they rotated in Alpine.

2. Is bloodlust being added to Desert BL or removed from Alpine?

I too would like to know how this will work.

3. Are the PvE type mobs being reworked to be similar in number and strength between the BLs? (Or even removed?!).

Other than tower/keep lords, none of the mobs had special mechanics and were probably less sparsely populated than alpine. I have to imagine objective lords will keep their unique mechanics.

Thanks for all the replies, they have been (mostly) helpful although it would be nice to get an Anet response before the map actually launches. I’m surprised that this info wasn’t covered in the other post announcing the return of the Desert BL on Tuesday – it should have been.

I recall the side waypoints being moved out of the towers and into the keeps, but couldn’t remember if they had been altered to work for the server owning the keep. This is a crucial thing for the defending server and would be necessary to keep the maps fair (or as close as we can get between designs).

Bloodlust may be an issue then. Is there more info on this Anet? I guess you could argue that the red server is often lower scoring so perhaps they benefit less from the impact of bloodlust anyway, but I personally believe the maps should be as fair as possible.

Mobs I’m not too fussed about, but thought it worth asking because I felt they were different between the two maps (seems to be my memory at fault again).

Hesacon’s point about the tower and keep lords could be interesting. Personally I don’t see it as a major issue but it is a difference so I wonder how soon it will be before we have posts claiming it’s not fair that Desert BL has these things (or Alpine doesn’t)…

Have questions as well, but we will probably have to wait for patch notes tomorrow. People will probably be finalizing things with the build today and doing pre-checks. Now granted I hope I am wrong and we can get info today, but I doubt we will see it.

The WP thing was covered in the april patch that reword DBL. I don’t think they needed to go over somenthing that they already had done (and stated). Honestly, the only doubt that remain is bloodlust. Everything else is just a minor issue.

1. Yes, available as an upgrade for any team holding the objective. The following release note applied to DBL as ABL got back into play 2016-05-03.

WvW—GENERAL

  • Keep waypoints have been changed to be part of the upgrade system rather than being automatically available to one team.

2. No info available. I would guess there will be bloodlust only for 2 teams at a time, which forces roamers to fight over it.

3. The number of ambient creatures got halved on ABL and EB but not on DBL. As I remember it, there weren’t that many creatures on DBL anyway.
